Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex 8.5Gb/ 2.4x DVD+R Dual Layer (25-Pack Spindle)Customer Review: Multiple Use & Multiple Success Summary: 5 Stars
I own a Dell Dimension 4600 (Sony DVD RW DRU-810A) & XPS M170. The software I use is Super DVD Copy by RegSoft. I have burned more than 75 DVDs, between these 2 computers, with only 2 failures (one from a bad original and the other from software glitches). The burned copies have played in 3 different DVD players (none older than 3 years) and a couple DVD-ROM drives (each different brands). I feel these DVDs are very dependable. I purchased these Memorex DVD+R DL when they were on sale; about $29.00 per spindle. At this price they are more than a bargain. However, at retail, around $65.00, shopping other brands (Imation or Sony) might be advisable.
Customer Review: Works with right firmware and software Summary: 5 Stars
I'm using a NEC drive, model 3500AG. I updated its firmware to 2.1A, and I'm using Nero 7.0.0 to burn my discs. Not a coaster so far with this combination, and all discs are fully compatible with my Sony DVD player, my PS2 and my XBox360. The only drawback is that every once in a while (I think once or twice per disc) I've notice a slight pause when playing the recorded video. I think this might be related to a layer switch or something, but I can live with that. A word of caution for Nero users: don't you ever think updating your Nero software to 7.2.0. I did some coasters with it, the menus didn't work and the 360 got stuck with these discs.
Customer Review: At 5x the price per GB as single layer - not worth it!!! Summary: 3 Stars
Even at this price (...),this is 5x the price per GB as single layer disks after rebate. When will those who set the prices recognize these WOULD sell like hot cakes if you bring them in line with normal storage prices! And they can even tack on an additional something small for the convenience but 5x the price -anyone would have to be crazy to buy these, unless they just had to - and that's all they are selling to is those who absolutely must buy them - a small pittance of the market! We all have dual layer burners now for a long time and we can't even use them, since its no where near cost effective.
Customer Review: Rebranded Ritek. Buy Verbatim DVD+R DL instead. Summary: 1 Stars
My disk info reader says these Memorex disks are labeled RITEK-D01-01. They are made by Ritek, and digitalfaq lists them as 3rd-class media, with only a 50-80% success rate. Given the number of problems I've had with these disks, I say STAY AWAY. Verbatim DVD+R DL disks are labeled MKM-001-01, made by Mitsubishi-Kagaku Media, and digitalfaq lists them as 1st-class media, the best, with almost no failures. These classifications are in accord with my experience. Get Verbatim from new egg and save money, time, and aggravation. It's too bad that Memorex sullies it's name with such junkie disks.
Customer Review: Very useful to back up long movies Summary: 5 Stars
It's normal you lend your movies to your relatives. It's also very common that your sons take them to see them in a friend's house etc. As a result your valuable movie discs are all scratched or sometimes you simply loose them. So, to have a security copy is absolutelly a must.
The problem is that most films are too long to back up them in "normal" DVDs (4,7 GB or 120 minutes)
For that, these Dual Layer DVDs are exactly what you need. And these Memorex are 100% acurate. No one had any defect. They are all well accepted by my DVD writer. I recommend them.
