Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex DVD+R 16x 4.7GB 100 Pack SpindleCustomer Review: The Discs are great but this Amazon.com listing is flawed Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered these on 2 August 2009. The shipping price listed on the page is $4.99. I ordered several items at the same time, and because this item is not coming directly from Amazon itself but another vendor, I did not get to see the individual shipping prices.
When placing your order you are presented with three shipping options for this item from this vender:
1-day which costs $26.23
2-day which costs $20.73
1-3 Day expedited $17.73
I WOULD NEVER have ordered something for $27 and paid an addition $17.73 to get it at the SLOWEST shipping method possible!!! I believe either the vendor should offer the shipping option of $4.99 listed on the page or the shipping fee listed on the page should be updated.
For this price, I could have purchased them locally and SAVED money! I didn't need them that fast, I had ordered in sufficient time that media mail would have been fast enough.
That said, beware of the shipping fees listed and understand when computing your price that you will end up paying significantly more than that to get them (but they do ship quick).
I have used Memorex DVDs and CDs exclusively for years and have had only 1-3 disc issues (but with DL not with single layers).
Memorex must have corrected whatever their problem was with the older reviews.
Customer Review: memorex review Summary: 1 Stars
It's time to buy DVD blanks again,so I'm here on this page.
I had bought over 575 DVD blanks for the past 1 and half years since I was in Florida.
My first 175 DVD blanks was from memorex, very dissapointed, almost 20% (1 out of 5, or 2 out of 7)are defect products.
Everything becomes beautiful since I turned to TDK, no issues.
Between Memorex and TDK, I tried HQ (generic DVD blanks) also, surprisingly, these generic DVD blank products without a product logo on the surface performs quite well too. I ordered them from cdrdvdrmedia.com.
Well, generally speaking, it's a bad time to buy DVD blanks anywhere, because I used to get 100-pack TDK DVD+R for 25.99$(notice that 25.99 just passed the 25 dollar mark for free shipping for products sold by amazon, so you pay 26 dollars free and clear for 100-pack high quality TDK), now you can't get that deal anymore, I searched around, TDK all become 32 dollars for free shipping, thats essentially 22 dollar retail price plus shpping, lol. Anyway, I searched around, found this cheapest product on amazon.com, 100-pack memorex DVD+R, but yeah, the point here is that memorex sucks.
I guess I'll wait and see what happens next.
Customer Review: Still solid after 5 years ... Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using this brand exclusively for the past five years. The look of the packaging has occasionally changed as well as the label and to be honest I don't know who manufactures these or where. I do know that I have successfully burned over 2000 discs. This is the first review I have written on these and ironically it comes right after the first issues I have EVER had burning. About halfway through the last spindle the disc's started failing to burn .. but retrying with a second disc worked every single time. After spending far too much time googling, updating software and firmware the fix was simply to manually set the burning speed to 4x instead of allowing it to self detect the max speed. Seriously - burning at 4x takes less than 5 minutes more than at 16x for a 4.7gb burn so it was not a big deal. After setting the speed to 4x every burn was successful. As for those reviews that say they burned a disc and then the disc was skipping during playback - I assume they mean video playback and in my opinion the skipping is probably an encoding issue and not a media issue. Like I stated before, I have burned over 2000 discs in the past 5 years and have less than a dozen coasters so it isn't rocket science.
Customer Review: Not the best Summary: 2 Stars
I use about 200 DVDs a year. I usually buy whatever Staples has on sale. Normally I don't have any problems, but with Memorex, I've had too many problems. I've never had one not work at all, the problem is worse. I take all the time to burn them only to find some of them have very poor quality play back on both the audio and video. We used to call it "drop out" in the tape industry. It's when everything is playing along fine and the video and audio just "drops out" for lack of a better description. It just blanks out then comes back. Most of the time I make about 20 DVDs at a time and distribute them for free. I generally just test 4 or 5 out of the batch. With Memorex, I've had to actually sit and watch every DVD since you never know when or which one will have this problem. It takes way too much of my time to watch every one and I shouldn't have to be the quality control for Memorex.
I've contacted them and they said to send the bad ones back for replacement, but I have to pay shipping and go through the frustration of
checking every one then putting them aside, packing them up and sending them back. I think I'll just buy a different brand...
Customer Review: Error, error, error...too many errors. Summary: 3 Stars
I've been making dvd data disc back ups for years, I have 961 data discs, so obviously I've used more then the 100 ct. Now, I have purchased this count before and no issue, but for 20+ dollars you expect the discs to work. I dislike throwing away money, so for me to have purchased a 100 ct and have more than 80% of the discs become coasters due to end disc write errors, it is quite nerving. Sadly, not long ago I purchased a whole new dvd burner drive, thinking the drive I had before was screwing up, when in turn it was the discs the whole time. I wouldn't have bothered to write a review if it was one or two discs, but I'm tossing out 10s of discs trying to burn one complete data disc, something must be said.
Now I'm not giving it a 1 star as this is the first time I get a 100 ct spindle that just fails, but heck if I give it better then a neutral 3, as you never know if you'll get a spindle of fail too.
Just be weary when buying these discs, rethink the purchase before buying.
