Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex Cool Color Slim DVD Storage Cases

Customer Review: A boon to those with limited space
Summary: 5 Stars

I have limited storage space for what my kids tell me is an unnecessarily large DVD collection. (They don't seem to buy the explanation that I have a significantly longer history of watching movies than they do and therefore require a large and varied movie library.)

Replacing the original DVD cases with Memorex slim cases essentially doubles the storage space available. The cases are sturdy and actually much less likely to get squashed than the remarkably flimsy cases currently being used by distributors for most new DVDs.

Granted, if you want to use the cover art from the original case, it requires a bit of surgery -- about one quarter inch reduction in the width of the insert. That can be achieved by carefully folding the excess on one end or folding it equally on both ends -- or you can just snip it off and slide that cover art right into the slim case cover. If you gauge it just right, the spine of the slim case will display the movie title or at least part of it. I am told this reduces the resale value of the DVD but I don't have them because of their resale value. It doesn't seem to affect the quality of the DVDs when I watch them and watching them is why I have them.

As for the DVDs falling out of the slim case when it is opened, I have never had that happen. Once the DVD is snapped onto the hub, it stays there until someone releases it. This is a sturdy, space-saving case, available in "Cool Colors" or, for the more conservative collector, the more boring but just as well-made "clear".

Customer Review: an old favorite
Summary: 5 Stars

these cases used to be available at my walmart and were, to my dismay, discontinued. i order 2 packs at a time to qualify for free shipping. the cases are sturdy and stay closed well. i prefer this brand because i enjoy the colors. i'm sure they could be utilized to organize one's collection, but i have yet to get that organized. they are sturdy and well-made.
as for other reviewers' complaints on the hub, i discovered a few years ago when i first purchased these that the disc cannot just be snapped in place from the outer edge like a CD--besides, as another reviewer posted recently, this is actually bad for DVD's (which aren't made the same as CD's). one needs to actually lay the dvd in place, then press the tab clearly marked "PUSH" in the hub of the case, which flexes a little and pops thru the DVD. i have never in several years been sold a single defective case, and i love these.
i regularly purchase them and replace the cases my dvd's come in, cutting my dvd storage in a little less than half and yet preserving the cover art and feel of the purchased DVD. to do this, one can slide out the paper insert from the original dvd case, carefully cut a thin strip from each side of the insert, and slide it into a thin case; by doing it this way (taking a little from each side), one can assure that the title will remain visible on the spine. some titles are a little too wide but enough is visible to enable me to tell what each dvd is.

Customer Review: Excellent Cases
Summary: 4 Stars

Have to disagree with the reviewer above. I have a large VHS library that I am converting to DVD and these cases are by far the best value. I have never had a problem with the DVD's "popping off" the holder when I open the case. The cases are stong and sturdy, and the five different colors help me organize my collection. One thing the product description does not mention is that each case also has a clear plastic sleve on the outside so you can insert your own cover. If you choose not to, however, it's no problem because the cases are translucent enough to see through.

If, like me, you are converting lots of tapes to DVD, then I would recommend ordering these cases direct from Memorex in bulk. It's much cheaper than Amazon, and the shipping costs are the same no matter how many you order. Go to: http://www.ememorex.com/productdetails.aspx?pid=32021987

Customer Review: Save Space & Make some cash on the Side :)
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this product and can't get enough of them.
Where I could only fit 20 DVDs I now have 40 thanks to Memorex!
Now I replace all my old black ugly DVD cases with color coordination and sell my old ones for $ 2.00 @. Now how cool is that?
And the Clear ones are great for setting appart my animations from reg. movies!

Customer Review: Garbage, Pure Garbage
Summary: 1 Stars

These are the worst thin DVD cases I've ever made the mistake of buying. Sure the colors are nice but the first priority in any case should be having an effective hub to keep the discs in place, 3/4th's of the time discs held in these cases pop off the hub when I open the case.

Avoid at all costs.
