I bought this DVD cleaner because my older DVD recorder could no longer read discs, was unable to initialize a new disc for recording and could not finalize a previously made DVD. I was in the middle of transferring all my vcr tapes to DVD when it quit working. I thought I would have to buy a new machine but decided to spend a small amount of money on a cleaner never really thinking it would work. When I inserted it in the recorder it didn't seen to do much - went through a few of the "titles" and then stopped. I did it a couple of times to see if I was doing something wrong....but when I put a new disc in, it immediately initialized it and I have been able to finish my project of transferring all the old vcr tapes to DVD. I also used it on a DVD player which was also not working. It went through more things about the audio which I didn't understand or care about but might be important to some people - the main thing is that both machines are working now!Customer Review: Be patient it works!

Memorex CD/DVD-Player Laser-Lens CleanerOur DVD kept stopping in the middle of a movie and would not continue playing. It is a year and a half old Panasonic VCR DVD Player. We were about to give up and thought as a last effort to buy the cleaner. It would not play in the player and kept giving the message "Cannot read DVD". So I tried it in our DVD Surround system and it worked great! Then I tried it in the DVD MANY MORE times and kept getting the same message. I went to the product reviews on Amazon and someone said that they experienced the same problem with the error message but they felt that even though they were getting the "cannot read DVD" message,it was still cleaning the DVD player. So I ran it through two more times and it fixed the problem. Our DVD is fixed! The cleaner never did the whole process but it worked anyhow.Customer Review: Great cleaner, problem with phase test

It appears that this cleaner fixed my Sony SACD/CD player's problem with certain Hybrid MultiChannel CDs that would skip regularly. Now, they play beautifully! It's a great relief and such a great buy.
I have a problem with though with the phase test, which is on track 6. The test plays two tones and says that if the second one is louder, your speakers were out phase. This appeared to be the case with mine, but they are connected just fine using colored wires, which I've checked over and over again now. For kicks, I tried switching one of the pos/neg connections and the resulting sound was very hollow with left and right channels being very independent. It didn't seem like a good sound field. So, I switched it back to the way I had it before. So, I'm not sure about the speaker phase test.
However, this gem saved me buying a new SACD player (for the time being). Great buy.

I don't write reviews, but here I am, writing a review for a product I purchased with no real hope it would work. My multi-CD player hadn't been used in years (yes, years) and when I'd tried it at Christmas it was painful to listen to. I purchased (locally) another well-known brand name lens cleaner and it made no difference whatsoever. I wasn't prepared to completely throw in the towel, so I checked to see what was available on Amazon. Aside from the product I already purchased that didn't work, I saw this product. The reviews were glowing. I'm a skeptic. Who knows who writes those things? Anyway, the price wasn't a huge investment if it did in fact work, so I ordered it. I was amazed. My CDs now play without skipping. I don't know how this thing works (and I don't much care), but IT DOES WORK!
