Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex CD/DVD-Player Laser-Lens CleanerCustomer Review: don't plan on cleaning your pc devices with this product Summary: 1 Stars
I saw nothing in the literature at the Amazon site that stated this product was not meant for use on devices installed in a pc. That's where I intended to use it, and so, I was very disappointed that when I inserted it into the Phillips DVD/CD +RW in my Dell pc nothing happened! I tried it in the second drive, a DVD-Rom player and again - nothing.
I thought perhaps it was Windows Media Player and so I tried Yahoo Music Jukebox and that failed to produce any recognition of the CD. I tried Quick Time and Real Player and MusicMatchJukebox. Nothing.
I wrote Memorex asking for advice. In their email reply they said "To answer to your question this unit only should be use on stand aloneDVD/CD players it is not recommended to be use on DVD/CD burners or combocomputer drives if the device its not working properly we can replace itfree of charge you just need to fill our warranty replacement form andspecify the product." Excellent answer. I'll pass.
In conclusion, if you intend to use this on your pc, pick something else. I will say that Amazon was very positive in their response to my dissatisfaction and immediately allowed me to print a return label. Also, they picked up the cost of return shipping. Thank you, Amazon! Because I have used a Phillips lense cleaning cd successfully on my pc before, I will look for another from that company.
Customer Review: Easy, Effective, Cheap Summary: 5 Stars
I decided to write this review because another older review helped me. This product can not be seen as a fix-all, but I will describe my experience. After joining Netflix about a year ago occasionally, not often, I would get a "DISC ERROR" on my 2001 model Toshiba, which was top of the line and had always been flawless. I was sent another disc and it worked. A couple of months ago this problem began to increase. I was told that some older DVD players had a problem with some of the newer discs, something about the quantity of information. So a got a new Sony which works fine, problem gone, but I don't like the way the zoom works, the icon never goes away. So I hooked the old DVD player back up thru a VCR in the system as an option. When testing it I found that about half of the older discs I had wouldn't load, "DISC ERROR". Of course I knew I played them all before on this machine. I'm sure you can see where this is leading. I used this product and now I can play all those older discs I have, plus every disc from Netflix so far. It's a cheap easy way to find out if your machine is just dirty, and it's good for 30 uses. Recommended to be used every 50 hours.
Customer Review: Great product! Summary: 5 Stars
All I can say is WOW. I just recently bought my Macbook Pro 15 in laptop (in July) and never once used the cd drive for it until now. I wanted to burn a cd and couldn't because my laptop kept spitting out every cd I put in. It would accept it and a couple of seconds later, it came back out. I was so upset by this! Especially since this computer is practically new. So, I was searching around the net and saw that people claimed that most macbook pros have the same problem and it is caused by...DUST.
I said to myself, I NEED TO GET THIS PRODUCT and did. At first I put it in my laptop the normal way and on the CD it says to follow the instructions (which are to listen to the audio and follow the audio instructions) but I heard nothing. Out the CD came and I tried to put in a normal CD and it still spit out my CD. I was scared. I got creative and thought to myself, why not put the Disk Cleaner CD in the laptop again, but this time, upside down?! So that is what I did.
I put in a normal CD and VOILA! My computer recognized the cd! I was so glad! Great deal, great value. A must for all macbook pro users suffering from this problem.
Customer Review: Is My CD Player Too Far Gone ? Summary: 1 Stars
When i try to play a CD, my '97 Acura is rejecting CD's and responding with a code that says "PEO" 95% of the time, or more. I don't know if that means a dirty lens or not, but i figured this was worth a try. After dozens of attempts, i got the cleaner to work two or three times, but there was no change in the playability of the unit, so i returned the product.
Since then i have bought a disk that says it is especially for cleaning automotive CD players. i thought heat perhaps is more of an issue with car CD players, so i got one, and i have had no more luck with it than i did with the Memorex. Usually the player will reject the disk, but i did get the cleaning cycle to run a half dozen times. However, there is no change in playback - usually a CD is rejected. So i wonder if the lens problem (if that's what it is) is actually an alignment problem, or perhaps a cleaning problem that is too far along for a disk cleaning system to work.
The dealership wants $475 to pull the CD player and fix it. These disks are DEFINITELY the thing to try before turning to options like THAT ! Good luck !
Customer Review: Did not work on half of my players Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this because several of my DVD players were starting to take a noticeably longer time to load any DVD's which I inserted, and in the case of scratched up rentals struggled to play them in certain sections while my newer players could.
I have a total of 7 DVD players in my home, counting those in my computers and gaming systems, and this product did not work in 4 of the 7! 4 of the 7 players just couldn't read the disc at all.
Considering they all read every DVD, albeit slowly at times, I have to blame it on this product.
I ordered a different brand, the DVD Dr. Optical Lens Cleaner and it worked perfectly on every single dvd player I own.
My recommendation to anyone looking at this product is to pass and order a different brand. I rate this one 2 out of 5 stars; I'd reserve one start for one that didn't work at all on any of my players.
