Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (50pk Spindle)Customer Review: Shame on Memorex! Summary: 1 Stars
My usual media source switched from Verbatim to Memorex ('a better value for our customers'), so I gave them a try. Well, I tried burning them on 4 different DVD burners and, for the two burners that actually recognized them as media, got errors at the beginning (invalid media) of the 3 discs I tried. I took them back along with the Memorex single layer stack I bought at the same time. When the clerk saw what I was returning, he couldn't look me in the eye and didn't even bother asking why I was returning them. I have bought Memorex products in the past, but never again. If I wanted to give my money away, there are a lot of charities in my area accepting donations. I can understand the occasional product defect, but the extent of the defects in this product could not possibly have been unknown to Memorex and now, to all the merchants trying to dump them. To customers: Don't buy! To merchants: Stop selling this junk and return them to Memorex - your reputation is going down with them!
Customer Review: Cheap disks = problems Summary: 1 Stars
These Disks are not the greatest and I would highly recommend using Verbatim DL disks if you want them to work every time at higher speeds.
Pros:
They care cheap
Cons:
Cannot write at over 4X with out errors
Even at 4X you will still have problems, like stalls and just plain not working disks
Out of this 50 pack I was only able to burn 10 fully functioning DVD's the rest either had read errors or would skip and stall during playing.
I used Imgburn and Nero and tried several different setting to test them out and was not at all impressed with these discs. I've used Verbatim discs with Nero and Imgburn and had no problems, but thought maybe I would give these a shot as you can't beat the price. I found that you could beat the price easily by buying a 20 pack of Verbatim disks and having them all work, plus the fact that you don't have to waste a bunch of time because you know they are going to work.
Customer Review: RIP-OFF junk Summary: 1 Stars
On average it takes me 3 or 4 disks before one doesn't fail, while using a DVD duplicating machine. So for every fifty disks purchased, maybe only a dozen to 20 aren't defective. So I'd recommend that you pay more for a better brand with a much lower defect / failure rate.
I use the double-layer type DVD disks only when a standard one's capacity is inadequate. And it is relatively rare when one of the Pengo standard capacity DVD blank disks I use ever fail. Perhaps 19 out of 20 DON'T fail, whereas, about 3 out of 4 of the Memorex double-layer DVD blank disks fail. How can any ethical company be selling such a poor quality product? I'll never buy Memorex again.
I tried to rate this at ZERO stars, but the amazon.com programming doesn't accept anything less than one star. And I am sure others who posted reviews here wanted to rate it zero stars too. So please bear that in mind figuring that the actual rating should be even lower than you see it.
Customer Review: Too many Errors Summary: 2 Stars
Well I ordered the Kodak DVD's from Amazon and they didn't produce one proper burn. I returned them and ordered the Memorex. I had to do all of them in 2.4 and most of the time I used nero it didn't work. When I used Image Burn at 2.4 I got maybe half of them burned properly.
As I said on the Verbatim I went too Rip off buy to sample the Verbatim and I borught a 5 pack for 18.99. I'm not a happy camper about that. But I will say this All of them gave me proper burns and even better quality than the memorex that did come out good. I will have to buy Verbatim I just hate to pay the price. But I can burn at 6X and in Nero Thanks for amamzon it's only a dollar a disk.
here is an example of memorex burm

Customer Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
For DL media you really cant beat the price and value of these discs. Before purchasing this 50 pack I had picked up a few 15 packs of these at a local store when they were on sale. I had a few fails on one of the packs but it was on an older slower computer and dvd burner. I have recently built a new pc and I am almost out of my 50 pack and have yet to have a single fail. I see a lot of people complaining about a high fail rate and any disc will fail if your using too many computer resources when trying to burn and using a high speed. I usually burn at 2.4x sometimes up to 4x max with minimal computer tasks being used! It takes a little longer but I learned from past experience that the time is worth the headache of tossing failed discs. Before you curse this product try adjusting what your doing cause like most things in life operator error accounts for most defects. All in all these work great for what I need them for and I will continue to buy them.
