Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex 700MB/80-Minute 52x Data CD-R Media (50-Pack Spindle)Customer Review: Plenty of better options Summary: 1 Stars
I've been using Memorex CDRs for a while but my latest spindle of 100 has given me (more) grey hairs. I've gone through 30 in the spindle and may have gotten 5 good CDs out of the bunch. My first indication of a problem was when I inserted the very 1st CDR from the spindle into my PC and got the error message "This is an unformatted disc. Please format the disc before attempting to burn." It was all downhill from there. The burned CDs skip, stop, re-start and/or freeze in my CD players. Also, multiple listens to the same CD results in skips in different spots - sometimes track 1 is fine, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes you'll get all the way to track 4 before everything stops. This means you've got to listen to every CD in its' entirety to determine if it's defective or not. I've performed every test imaginable: 2 different burner programs, 4 different CD players & ultimately, CDRs from 2 different manufacturers and it's the CDs themselves. Sorry, Memorex, I can't recommend your product.
Customer Review: Friendlier Shipping, PLEASE Summary: 3 Stars
Please include an option for having the delivery service leave it!
I work most days, when deliveries occur (not unique), so I can't be home when they try to deliver. So for 3 days (working!, not including weekends) my package was in this loop. After which I had 5 days to drive 20 miles to the hub to pick it up, that's about $8 in gas! more than the price of the purchase, I said then I will never buy from Amazon again. Then I figured out what the problem was, it was not Amazon, but UPS, they could have left it, but chose not to, even though I requested it!!! and signed the sticky note to have them just leave it, So........ Please put an option to the purchaser to have the item left if the purchaser chooses and accepts responsibly. Until then I will not buy anything from Amazon because it cost so much more in time and effort than buying it at the most expensive brick and mortar. UPS is KILLING your Business model!
PS the product was fine
Customer Review: Fed Up With MEMOREX! Summary: 1 Stars
I've used Memorex & Sony CD-R's for many years to store & archive my photographs. Memorex has been a thorn in my side. Initially, the CD-R's accept the files without a glitch, as reviewing the burning process to make sure everything went well is common practice of mine.
However, within a couple months, it never fails, there is at least a handful of Memorex CD-R's that become unreadable, and I end up losing between 50 to 168 images.
I've read numerous articles on why this happens. Some believe it's my burner, while some think it's my software, and others say it's even the images that are defective. Please!!!
My burner & software are working perfectly...never having a problem with Sony discs (or even the Meijer brand Imation).
I will NEVER buy another Memorex product again.
They're CD-R's are unreliable, and not worth the frustration and aggravation of losing any more of my valuable work, and memories.
Customer Review: Try another brand Summary: 1 Stars
have rarely had problems recording music or mixed media data on to a disk. However, the 100 pack of Memorex CD-R I bought have made me think twice about ever buying their brand again. I use a Lite ON 40x CD-RW and most of the problems I have had in the past were a result of user error: recording at high speed, using other applications whilst recording data etc. Yet, it seems several CDs in the spindle I bought were corrupt. It took me about 10 CDs and several emails & calls to their customer service dept. to figure out their media was to blame. My firmware was up-to-date and I've never had compatibility problems before. After discussing this issue w/ friends, Memorex appears to have compatibility problems w/ some audio & recording components. The worst part about this problems is that I cannot get my money back either. My advice is to steer clear of Memorex and spend the extra few pounds on a TDK or Maxell CD-R
Customer Review: Good for backups, don't go back for ages Summary: 5 Stars
I have to write about these disks because they are really good for backups. I have been using them since the day of x2 speeds back in the 20th century and they they have been storing data like champs. Few of the multitude of disk that I have written have been coasters.
I don't normally use them for music since they tend to scratch a little more than other disks, but if you are going to store your My Documents folder on them, these are a little more pricey than most, but you won't find a better type of disk for the price.
So long as you want a dedicated backup, these are they way to go. If you are going to use them as MP3 CDs I would look towards cheaper CDs.
For the record I use a ancient Yamaha CRW-F1E CD Burner or a Pioneer DVR-105 depending on my moods. At work they seem to work well with my HP Armada laptop.
