Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex 700MB/80-Minute 52x CD-R Media (100-Pack Spindle)Customer Review: Waste of 1 Stars
I read all of the reviews before clicking the checkout button...really, I did... but I overlooked them thinking just MAYBE ...maybe my pc/cd-rw will work just FINE, I dont burn alot, maybe one or two times a month for some audio cds on the go. When I got them in 3 days I said I LOVE amazon!.. but guess what, the product sucks.
Memorex is an OK company, their other products are great, but we are talking about this SPECIFIC product - these blank CDs..and the first try my Nero Burning software went halfway (was burning just 3 songs for a start) ....ERROR! Please check the disc in Drive E and my pc froze.
No problem. I tried again, rebooted and took the first CD out and inserted another cd, this time it did not even start burning - it kept saying PLEASE INSERT DISC IN DRIVE E
...so now it did not even detect them.
No problem, new product, i will try again.
Third attempt: upon insertion into the drive, the cd icon came on mouse (it usually does when something is inserted) ...and my PC froze
I gave up. I am thankful to Amazon who gave me full refund shipping included. Their reply was apologetic and said "This issue appears to be more widespread among consumers. We are still investigating this product and thank you for bringing it to our attention"
Well, so I am not the only one, and I purchased Generic brand from dollar store and they worked JUST FINE. So yes this product stinks.
Customer Review: I just paid $29.99 for 100 sparkly Frisbees from Amazon. This just don't make no motha^*(&^(* since Summary: 1 Stars
At less than a dollar per sparkly Frisbee, this is the best price I can find for Frisbees. They don't fly very well and they break relatively easily, but this is the best value I can find for 100 Frisbees in one place.
A lot of people are disappointed because they expect to be able to use these discs as writable CD media. The problem with that is, they don't work very well for that either. I, too, tested this for myself.
Using Nero Burning ROM, I tried many times to burn different kinds of data onto several of the discs -=AT 4X=-, just like you're supposed to (you know to be safe.) IT WORKED! It burned fine. Then it took 5 minutes to open a simple HTML document on the burned disc. Subsequent trials run with the "Verify Written Data" check-box checked revealed that every other sector or so was unreadable after burning. It's like writing with a white crayon, except this is white paper. This persisted on several OTHER computers with different CD burner drives and even different software.
I finally realized what great Frisbees these things are. Cheer up people: THEY ARE GREAT FUN! So grab your spindle, go outside, and start chucking these things at your neighbor's annoying dog.
I need to sue Memorex for selling this junk. These disc are just a form of abuse.
Customer Review: Memorex has problems with these CD-R discs Summary: 1 Stars
These Memorex CD-Rs cannot be counted on to work in all CD players. Perhaps this is the price one pays for the price one has paid. This particular batch was in the older purple wrapper. I burned over 20 CDs and they seemed to record fine on my PC's Memorex (coincidence?) burner, and even play back on the same drive (I check immediately after recording). They also play on a cheapo multi-CD player and in my truck CD-player, but not one, repeat, not one, will play back on my HI-FI quality single-CD player (a Rotel). All other manufacturer's CD-Rs that I have used work perfectly on any equipment. Whether the problem is the blue colour of the disc, the colour of the label, or the thickness of the disc is irrelevant. In fact I don't need to know what the problem is, since I can't fix it. They just do not work for me and my fix is to not buy them again.
Reading comments like: "I don't know why people don't like them", "I had no problems with any of the CD's", "They all worked fine", and "I don't see why they don't work on some" is not a good enough reason to go out and buy them. They need to work for everyone, and since there have been plenty of people for whom they haven't worked, then that is sufficient reason to not risk buying them at any price.
Customer Review: Compatability issues - Buyer beware! Summary: 3 Stars
I *really* wish that vendors would do a better job of giving us an accurate idea of what to expect with CD-Rs.
Case in point: I have a Sony RCD-W500C dual CD deck with burner. For making duplicates (I'm a musician and need to turn out multiple copies of demo disks & samplers), I prefer using that to my computer, because burning disks on my computer slows it down a bit at times, and because it's easier to burn them on the Sony deck.
Well, I plug these disks into my Sony, and it won't write on them. Calls them "data disks." This isn't the first time it's happened.
OTOH, I use my Mac G4 powerbook, and it burns 'em just fine. And I'd rather do that than send the disks back, though I was tempted.
Now maybe I should just get a better standalone CD burner that isn't so fussy about what you feed it. But when I buy disks calling themselves "audio CD-Rs," I expect them to work in an audio CD burner.
To make life more interesting, Memorex's "Music CDs" burn just fine in the Sony. But it's hard to find those in a 100-pack spindle.
Summary: Be careful what you buy.
Customer Review: Media has TERRIBLE high speed issues Summary: 1 Stars
I have used Memorex media for years, I have 6 different CD-R, DVD-R, and BD-R drives currently in service. I've burned quite a few discs over the years, and haven't had a coaster in a very long time and have been burning CD-R's at 52X. I use Plextor drives.
Let me tell you that something is definitely wrong with recent batches of Memorex CD-R media.
I had an old spindle of Memorex CD-R media that I just had finished up without incident and moved on to this latest batch. I noticed a media error on the burn. Tried another disc. Same story. Tried another drive. Same. Tried another computer and a different piece of software. The same result.
I then reduced burning speed to 16X and the burn completed. I have 52X drives, for which the media is rated for on the package.
Bottom line is this media used to burn at 52X with no errors, but does not anymore. Memorex must have changed something either in manufacturing and/or quality control.
Avoid this media if you have a high speed drive.
