Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex 700MB/80-Minute 52x CD-R Media (100-Pack Spindle)Customer Review: Memorex CD-R Spindles Summary: 4 Stars
We purchased a brand new, from soup to nuts PC in December '04. Our 4 year old HP 'puter totally crashed and couldn't be repaired because of damages during last season's Florida hurricanes. However, I finally figured out how to use the CD-R on the PC approximately 1 1/2 years ago, with the old PC. We used to purchase Memorex 50 or 100 CD-R spindles all the time, but this one tme (last week) we bought a package of 100 spindle Fujofilm CD-R's.
My former HP 'puter didn't have 40x speed. I don't remember what it had since I was teaching myself how to make CD's. Our new 'puter has a Gateway hard drive but our monitor, keyboard, and printer are all HP's, and we upgraded our speakers to Bose.
The fist thing I noticed with both Memorex and Fuji is that many of the CD-R's in either spindle are "duds" and I toss them in the garbage. I didn't even think to check until yesterdy whether Amazon sells these items. I was glad to see that, since 100 spindes at Best Buy cost an average of $50.00, so when some of the CD-R's are duds, throwing out that kind of bucks pisses me off.
On the other hand, even with the new 'puter where I have great speed, I really cannot hear any difference in quality between the old CD-Rs I made using the 4 year old HP vs the new 'puter. I used to always purchase Memorex but when I bought the Fujifilm a few days ago, it was because Fuji was on sale.
So call me crazy, but to me there is no difference in quality between Memorex or Fuji, no matter which PC I use. With the new 'puter, I now have version 2002 Windows Media Center running on Windows XP, service pack 2. But I use Musicmatch Jukebox, with the newest version 10 when I make CD's.
Therefore, I give Memorex 4 stars rather than 5, not because of the quality of Memorex, but because I had to throw out too many duds in every spindle. However, I think this sort of thing happens no matter which company you would purchase your CD-R's from. But from now on, when needed, I will start buying spindles from Amazon and save myself an average of $25 per a package of 100 spindles.
