Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex 4.7GB/8x DVD-R (25-Pack Spindle)Customer Review: So far so good Summary: 4 Stars
I just finished a Fuji 25 8X pack spindle and was 25 for 25. I wanted to give Memorex a try since it cost a little more. Upon closer inspection between a Fuji and Memorex's disks, it looks like they are both made from the same factory. Everything from the top surface (smooth silver) to the rim (silver) is made from the same materials and color. Both of the bottom recording layers are a color purple. Great that Memorex don't use the cheap looking white paper surface similar to their CD-R for this DVD-R model. For about $5 more and a microscope's eyes the quality of Memorex's edge is much smoother then the jagged Fuji.
So far I am 4 for 4 with the 8X Memorex's disc burning at a full 8X. I am using a firewire LaCie's 16x d2 DVD±RW Double Layer (NEC drive) with a Dell laptop to make my own DVD movie and to back up files. I use Roxio and other software and they all burn fine. Yes, I have Sony's CD-R that after 2-years starts to "Pudding" faking of the top surface. Hopefully these Memorex's DVDs will last as long as my TDK's CD-R since are made from similar materials.
Update:
Please note that 8x DVD are made for faster DVD burners for the computer with decent software and hardware. These disks do not work on typical DVD-recorders for the TV since those are design to record at 2-4x speed. Most TV DVD-recorders are picky and do advise what type of mediums they prefer.
