Customer Review: Data lost after several months!
Summary: 1 Stars

I am working in a Blu-ray player manufacture company and now we are very frustrated with this Memorex 4x 25GB BD-R disc. They looked solid with good price and highly transparent face, and we recorded and played them without any problem for the first few weeks, in fact we have recommended this "budget" BD-R disc to some of our player customers. Within the last few weeks, we received several customer feedbacks on their recorded Memorex BD shown as "unknown disk" in our players. Thus we have spent many hours to analyze whether something has gone wrong with our player's laser head. But the reason came out as a surprise: it's not our player but the BD-R disc has gone wrong. More frustrating is, we have recorded many customer-provided test video/audio samples on these disks, and now some of them either cannot be read completely (partial video episodes failed to play) or cannot be played at all (shown as "unknow disk"). We tested those discs on many brands of blu-ray players available in our lab, inclduing sony ps3, s470, LGBD300/390, as well as our previous generations of players, all failed to read those discs. Be careful about this type of BD-R disc.

Customer Review: Memorex Disks work well
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using the Memorex disks to back up video, keeping the original digitized versions of video on a computer hard drive. Out of 15 disks, only 1 has turned out to be a useless coaster and that may well be a fault of the Power2Go software rather than the disk. I canceled my original planned burn and tried to revise the file content but the result was an "out-of-space" error that produced a coaster. Other than that, 14 of 15 disks were verified by Power2Go as being error-free and burned leaving only 400 to 800K free space on each.

My review applies to the original Memorex 15-pk that I bought over a year ago and let sit around before using. A couple of other reviewers have claimed deterioration but the disks work fine for me over 1 year-old. A newer 15-pk of Memorex 25 Gb disks that I bought is thinner, more like a standard DVD. The original year-old pack, the disks were unusually thick and colored blue on the label side. The newer Memorex have a more sedate gray color on the label side.

So far, very satisfied Memorex customer and will update my review with experience of subsequent spindles, aging disks.

Customer Review: Completely Worthless
Summary: 1 Stars

I have had problems with Memorex media in the past, so when I saw their 15-pack 25GB BD-R media being sold for a low price, I convinced myself that maybe their quality htad improved. If anything, it has degraded further than the last time I tried their products. I did not think this was possible. Instead of a high failure rate with these BD-R, I am seeing a 100 percent failure rate.

The disc always allows enough writing to destroy it, but never completes or closes out the disc. It will either hang the computer or end with an error message about disc quality. Most of the time, it hangs the computer so badly that only a hard reset will allow one to escape.

I would only encourage people who have excess cash and get enjoyment from watching greenbacks sail away in the wind to buy these discs. My son always says, "you get what you pay for." In other words, if you spend less than normal for an item, expect below normal quality. With Memorex, I would advise that you get "less than you pay for." There should be a zero-egg rating.

Customer Review: Cheap Medias - Inaccurate Ratings
Summary: 1 Stars

What is the real problem with all of these cheap Blu-ray sets? (Verbatim, Memorex, Ridata and so on...)They cost little and last little too. The thing is when they came out people started buying those "Cheap Medias" and once they received them and used them for few times they would write a 5/4 stars review, then when a few months have passed, most of them lose the data or video and 1/2 stars reviews begin to emerge...

You can notice this by selecting see all reviews and organizing them by "Newest First". Then you go to the last page and you will see how the first 5 to 10 reviews are 4/5 star ones. Then the first person to take the risk of doing a 1/2 star review gets hammered by all others, and few months later you see how 1/2 stars reviews are more common and people begin to accept them...

The whole idea of my review is to advice you about the inaccuracy of the product ratings and some of the reviews. Do NOT be fooled... "You Get What You Paid For."

Customer Review: Data lost after less than 1 year
Summary: 1 Stars

Started buying these in Jan 2009 when they were $79.00 / 15pk. I made 30 disks at that time. No coasters. They seemed to work great. I always burn at a slower than the rated speed & I do a verify afterwards.

I needed to get data off of one of the disks in December 2009. I found all the disks burned in January were completely unreadable. One disk that was made in Feb was partially readable using recovery tools. I made 2 disks in March that were fully readable. Altogether I lost 27 Blu-ray data disks that cost me over $150.00. I bought Memorex because I trusted the brand name. Some manager at Memorex figured out how to cut costs on these disks and I'm sure he got a large bonus for improving profits. To the management at Memorex - may the fleas of a thousand stag deer infest your armpits.
