Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Maxell 648200 700 MB 80 min CD-R (100 Pack)

Customer Review: Not the worst, Not the best either
Summary: 3 Stars

First, let me state that I had 100% perfect burns with each disc, and I burned all 100. However, that's not attributable to the quality of the discs themselves, just that my CD-RW was compatible with the discs. So why did I not give 5 stars?

The disks are not all that durable, which is fine if you are making incremental backups of data that you won't be keeping for extended periods of time. For LONG TERM storage though, I would not trust these. The film/dye they use has already shown some wear after only 1 month of delicate handling. Holes have started to appear in the dye causing read errors, chips have started showing around the edges (I keep them in hard plastic cases, no idea how they chipped).

One thing I wish all CD-R distributors would publish on the outside of their packaging, is the actual manufacturer of the discs. For instance, Maxell does not make these discs, RITEK does. Had only I known that before, I would not have purchased them (google "Ritek CDR quality" to discover why - they are not the most well regarded manufacturer).

My opinion? Kodak makes the best LONG TERM archival discs you can buy. You pay much more for Kodak disks, but if you really need safe storage for your photos or documents, it's worth the extra money for the peace of mind (and no, I don't work for kodak).

Customer Review: Lappy loves these disks!
Summary: 5 Stars

Yes, my laptop has a name: "Lappy". Well, that was my first laptop. My current laptop is affectionately known as Lappy Junior.

Both Lappy and Lappy Junior would forecefully spit out all other CDs with great disdain and disgust. I personally spent at least $3.2 million trying to find a CD that Lappys I & II would accept. The Maxell CD-R 700/80 are the ONLY disks that the Lappys love.

As a professional writer, and as the sister of a comp-sci professor, I don't go to bed without backing up my work. Every morning that Lappy Junior springs to life is a miracle of grace and I recognize that as a true fact. So I go through a lot of disks, backing up each day's work. Buying the CDs by the 100-count is the only way to go.

A nice extra touch is that there's no shipping on these CDs (if you have Amazon.com Prime) and the price here is $9 less than competing brick and mortar (or steel and plastic) office warehouse stores. The 100-count of CDs that I ordered were sitting in my office 36 hours after I placed the order at amazon.com.

Customer Review: Excellent CD-Rs, maybe even the best
Summary: 5 Stars

These Maxell CD-Rs are great.

First, I've only had one burn failure, which was mainly my fault because it had scratches all over it. The CDs are very reliable, and they have a hard time scratching.

The data works like new, unlike some of the other brands (especially Memorex) who's data comes out reading very slow and choppy. But Maxell is perfect, making extra copies of games run perfectly, and without poor graphics and gameplay.

Music doesn't sound distorted (like Imatation), and it sounds just as good as the MP3 on your computer.

I only have one negative, which is kind of a funny negative. They, for some reason, smell AWFUL! Yes, these discs smell really bad, and don't ask me why because I wouldn't know.

I've had a lot of companys of CD-Rs, but Maxell has some of the best, and I highly recommend them. Go through a lot of CD-Rs in a 20 pack? Buy this! You can't go wrong!

Customer Review: Actually better than other CD-Rs
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been burning music and files to CD-Rs for years, I've used all the brands, and all of them performed like they should (well, one box from Sony were almost entirely defective) but these standout, Mostly due to their packaging. The CDs come wrapped in 2 sets of 50 inside the spindle that has a protective lock when you close it to prevent dropping the discs all over the place. As I'm sure many of you know, this is a really nice feature. I can't count the times I've had CDs get scratched because they dropped out when I was trying to pick up the spindle package.

I've never really been able to hear a sound quality difference when burning music onto CD-Rs from brand to brand, but I know the music on these sound great, and after using 25 of the 100 none of the discs are defective so for that I'm an extremely satisfied customer!

Customer Review: Excellent Quality Maxell CD-Rs
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a repeat purchase of Maxell's CD-Rs since the last spindles were great quality.

Amazon shipped quickly, even with their SuperSaver option.
The product came packaged well with no damage.

My wife had a gift card from a local store, so she purchased some Sony discs, thinking Sony is a quality name. The first 5 she recorded with had static and skips in the music. We both checked the specs on the discs and the computers: nothing was out of line. After, we read the awful reviews on Sony CD-Rs and returned the rest.

Over the years, the Maxell discs have never failed. They work well for all kinds of files.

We will definitely buy these again when it's time.
