Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Manfrotto 486RC2 Compact Ball Head with RC2 Rapid Connect SystemCustomer Review: It holds it tight. Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this 486RC2 Compact Ball Head with my new Bogen Menfrotto 190XPROB. I really like this ball head. As a wildlife photographer I needed a ball head I could adjust quickly in any direction. It works very well even with my Canon EOS 30D and EF 100-400mm lens. It will hold my camera in any position I set it. I really like the ability to tilt my camera 90 degrees forward or back without having to turn the mount 180 degrees like with other ball heads.
Customer Review: Great product but alot heavier than I thought Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great head for your tripod or monopod with a few improvements that could be made. There is no easy way to get this back to center or even level. Use your eyes and it made my monopod more than twice as heavy as without it. I wish they made a lighter version as it seemed pointless to buy a lightweight monopod with this thing attached.
It is very easy to attach and detach your camera from this which is another great feature.
Customer Review: Ball Head used with a Monopod Summary: 5 Stars
Great product. I bought this product in conjunction with the Manfrotto 681B Monopod. The 486RC2 is fairly light but does add a bit of weight to the top of this setup. This unit suited my needs well, I didn't need all the bells and whistles, especially when using it on a monopod.
These are the first Manfrotto products I have bought, but will not be the last. I would also recommend this to friends and family, as well.
Customer Review: An excellent Ball Head for the money.. Summary: 5 Stars
A little on the heavy side which makes it an excellent choice for those on a budget, Choosing between this and the 488RC2, is the 488RC2 $40 better? probably, but the single ratchet locking knob's just fine for my needs right now. One thing i think Bogen forgot is the level, not a deal breaker but would be nice to include. All in all a must buy for those looking for an excellent priced ball head.
Customer Review: Good for the Money Summary: 4 Stars
This is a well built ball head that is good if your on a budget. Holds wait well without sag. Now that I have used it awhile I am wishing I had paid up a little bit to get one with a separate control for panning (a feature I initially didn't think I would need at all).
Great value for the money though. (tested with d80 with battery grip, heavy fast lens and a speedlight without sag)
