Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Manfrotto 486RC2 Compact Ball Head with RC2 Rapid Connect SystemCustomer Review: Wonderfull Tripod Head, and works great with my 190XPROB tripod! Summary: 5 Stars
I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this item when i purchased it, but what I got was an excellent head for my 190XPROB tripod. My previous tripod was an ancient Bogen with a very strange head with levers and junk, and this was a relief on how simple it was to operate. I can simply release the tripod and move the camera to the exact angle that I need. It works excellent. Although it was much larger than I had expected, the head works great for keeping everything as compact as possible. My only issue with it is when i release the lever, everything moves, so if i just want to adjust the "vertical" placement of the camera, everything gets out of whack. But, this isn't that big of an issue.
Customer Review: QUALITY AND AFFORDABILITY... Summary: 5 Stars
I picked up this ball head with the Bogen/Manfrotto 3021B Pro tripod. I have been shooting on a department store cheapo for years and decided to get a real tripod and ball head.
After days of researching different brand names in the ball head field I decided to go with this model because of it's simplicity and price. After using it I'm convinced that even the Bogen/Manfrotto entry-level ball heads are quality made and not lacking in durability.
This unit is very simple to use and maneuver, it also fits perfectly on my Bogen/Manfrotto 3021B tripod. For under $70.00 this is one of the better ball heads in the entry-level field.
Customer Review: This is a LOT of ball head Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very solid thing. Its larger and heavier than it looks in the picture and it fits best on on a full sized tripod.
Its "entry level" only because it lacks a separate knob for tension control. For the price, this is a super value.
I wanted to point out that for any of the modern, compact dSLR's, with almost any lens, probably even a 300mm 2.8 prime one, this will still hold it.
If you want a head for light traveling, and you only have consumer lenses, look at the mini ball version. Also solid though it wont lock down as strong. Don't listen to the arca groupies...
Customer Review: like a tank Summary: 5 Stars
Concerning the ball head:
This head is built like a tank. The ball itself is at least an inch in diameter, and the tightening lever is large, making it easy to adjust, even with gloves. The head can drop to portrait orientation on either side, giving you more flexibility without having to move the tripod.
Concerning the RC2 system:
The release lever has a safety that is easily toggled, yet will still keep you from accidentally releasing the camera. But when you want to release the camera, it pops off quickly. When you put it back on, the level locks it into place automatically.
Customer Review: My First ball head Summary: 4 Stars
This is my first ball head. Since I did not have anything to compare against, I get tell you that it works as advertised. When you lock it is stays there, not creeping. Now that I have used it, I have developed some other requirements for the next head. The next head should have a separate control for panorama. Since this head has one one lock whenever you need to change the head's position be sure to have your other hand under the support to make sure the camera does not go into directions you did not plan for. Other than that, I would still buy and use this head as my first one.
