Customer Review: Excellent Tripod - Some reservations

I picked this up on sale for $119.00 US through Adorama. Excellent deal for a solid tripod!
PROs: High quality and solid.
We all know that Manfrotto is a well known name in tripods and their quality (usually) is second to none. This tripod is excellent for those looking for an inexpensive, high quality tripod.
I'll keep this tripod for home use only because of the great deal I got through Adorama. But!!!
Cons: A tad heavy, long, and short reach with the center column retracted. Due to these cons, I'll keep this only as a backup and not my main traveling tripod. You have to ask yourself, do I want to sling this over my back for a days shooting? If you can handle 4 lbs and 21" not including a head, then I'd say fine. Don't get me wrong, it's not that heavy and long where you'd never want to bring it along, but weight & size are definitely something to consider.
Alternatives: Seriously consider the Induro 8M series or Benro, such as the A-158ex. I've written a review of the Induro 8M AT114, which I directly compare to the 190XB. The review is here: Induro AT114 Alloy 8M AT-Series 4-Section Tripod, Extends to 59.7", Supports 13.2 lbs.
The Induro 8M AT114 is lighter by 1/2 pound, shorter at 19.3", supports 13.2 lbs, extends almost 4" taller without column extended, and comes with a case and strap. Now that's for traveling! When I attach my ball head to the 190XB, it's just over 25" and has me feeling a little weighted. It's just over my threshold in the travel category and that's why I researched for what seemed like months to determine the best cost to support/length/weight ratio. The Induro was it.
Bottom line: The Manfrotto 190XB is a high quality piece, that's sturdy and quick to set-up. You'll enjoy it. But, I'm here to tell you that there are alternatives that can provide more support, be more compact, and lighter weight. Not to mention, you'll need to grab a decent bag for the 190XB (30-60 bucks). In the end, is the Manfrotto worth the cost? The jury's out on that!
