Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Powerex AA 2700mAh Rechargeable NiMH Batteries w/holder- 4 Batteries Per Pack

Customer Review: Good when new, but lifetime is short.
Summary: 2 Stars

I've purchased 4 Powerex batteries and a Maha charger, and as part of this package also got a free bonus pack of 4 AA Kodak batteries. The Powerex batteries worked well at first, but after about a year of moderate use, the batteries would not hold charge and were pretty much useless. I've tried using them in a camera and a mouse, but they either didn't work at all (camera), or just lasted for a few days (mouse). As a last resort I tried using them for backup memory in a land line phone. This is a very benign application with a very low current requirement, and yet the batteries would only last a week before completely discharging. The free Kodak batteries, interestingly enough are still going strong, in all applications, and in fact have been used in the same land line phone now for at least two months without a need for a single recharge cycle.

Customer Review: Short battery life

I have purchased a variety of batteries for my camera's over the past 10 years. I was always very happy with PowerEx batteries in the past, but these new batteries work great at first. Then after a few charges they start to have problems. Not holding a charge for very long. Getting very hot in the charger while being charged. So hot I was worried about a fire hazard. I mark my batteries when they start to show signs of problems. These batteries were all marked up by my Sharpie at a very early starting point. I have thrown out most of the large amount I bought a year ago. I am replacing all of them. They just don't last, and I really do not need to be with a bad set out in the field.
I am surprised PowerEx put out such a inferior battery. I was always very happy with their other batteries, but not these.

Customer Review: Short-lived power

I have had 3 sets of Powerex rechargeable AA batteries and all have lasted less than a year. While they hold a high level of charge (and last long in my cameras) at first, within 6-9 months of occasional use the time they could hold their charge got shorter and shorter. (I'm using a LaCrosse BC-900 charger, reputably one of the best -and kindest to batteries- on the market)

I have converted to Sanyo eneloop batteries, which work much better: they hold their charge longer, even after 18 months of regular use... and they hold their rated voltage longer through use so you get the full benefit of every charge. Don't let generally lower mAh rating fool you (they usually are rated 2000 mAh compared to 2700 for the Powerex), they give you a much more useable charge, over a much longer life.

Customer Review: Lots of power
Summary: 5 Stars

Best recharge-ables I've bought thus far. 5 set purchased. I use them in my wii remotes, remote controls, front door key pad, kids games, remote cars, etc. Have recharged them dozens of times - no failure, while other brands have, Only one draw back to these, they don't last incredibly long in my furnace keypad - but I think this was due to me mismatching a different type of rechargeable battery with 2 of these. The other failed (Ultra pro NiMH) withing 1 month and the voltage level was no longer high enough. I have since replaced the faulty battery with another powerex and all is good so far. Try your best to match up all the batteries the same. The ones in my front door key pad have been in there for over a year now, on the same charge. Hope this review was helpful

I bought 12 Powerex AA 2700mAh about 9 months ago. They worked well for a few months but started to hold less charge. I have a quality Maha charger and have cycled them a few times hoping for an improvement. No luck. I take a decent amount of digital photos so recharge batteries maybe twice a month for a set of 4. I have gone back to using my old batteries which are poor but better than Powerex. I can take maybe 20 photos if I fully charge the Powerex batteries immediately before use. I have had many different makes of batteries and started using them when 1600mAh was the best available and all lasted longer than these 12. Not too happy with Powerex! They have been recharged maybe 30 times and were not good after about 20 times.
