Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PowerEx MH-C9000 WizardOne Charger-AnalyzerCustomer Review: Good in general but has risky moments Summary: 3 Stars
I recieved this item one week ago and so far charged about 23 AAs and AAAs.
One of the cheaper AAA NiMHs I charged overheated so badly that I could not get it out of the charger without using a screwdriver to pry it out. A melted part of that battery is still in that charger AAA slot, fused to the plastic. The charger still works fine but what is going on?
06.05.2009 - Time for an update. The hot battery issue hasn't repeated itself. The battery bay where it happened doesn't work quite as well for certain batteries, but generally I don't notice or remember the issue. Overall I just love the Maha charger. I've been using it since the incident for an average of 4-8 batteries a week, and it just does it's thing. I'm going to see if I can raise my original rating to 5 stars.
I love being able to set my charge rates and see what each battery takes and holds. And it has worked 100 % ok since the original meltdown, with no recurrence of that issue.
Customer Review: Excellent charger analyzer - wish it did more battery sizes Summary: 5 Stars
I like this product so much I bought a second one ! I love the analyze feature, and independent charging in each slot. I owned the first one over a year, and bought the 2nd a few months ago. I occasionally have trouble getting a AAA battery to stay in, but that is usually solved by removing and reinserting with opposite end down first, and leaving one end up a bit. Also, due to the way each plastic slot is formed, it often won't fit the AA batteries that had tabs welded on (such as from many cordless phone handset packs) because the ENDs of those batteries are usually larger diameter than the separate AA cells. (I solved that by slipping a small piece of tab metal from old pack between larger positive end of battery, and POS contact in charger, to fill the gap). My only real wish is that the unit also handled C and D and 9V size cells (and old, tired Sub-C cells pulled from packs in my cordless drills that I want to compare, before rebuilding the pack).
Customer Review: Hopefully this one will last... Summary: 4 Stars
I have had all my La Crosse BC-900 and 9009 charges fail, one within two months. Almost ordered another BC-9009 as a replacement but stumbled on the BC units meltdown problems and searched for an alternative charger.
Lot of positive feedback on the charger so took the bait and ordered one from Amazon.
After a couple hours use I really can not add to the feedback here except the unit is extremely easy to program, built like a tank and provides ample spacing between the cells for air flow during charging, the unit does not get warm as my previous La Crosse
unit did.
As others mentioned I wish you could toggle all four cells to review the battery's progress.
It auto scrolls from cell to cell during charging but you can manually select a slot and review the information easily enough other than than that I believe I have a winner.
Has performed flawlessly.
Customer Review: High quality battery charger Summary: 5 Stars
I have had a couple of store bought chargers but I was never happy with them. I also had a need to charge high capacity batteries, so I started doing some homework and came across this charger. Overall I think this is a great product. I know one reviewer complained about the number of button presses you may have to make but honestly his illustration would be the worst case scenario in my opinion. I have not found this to be a nuisance when I am using it, and I actually appreciate the flexibility of programming. The charger seems to be well ventilated and I have never felt much heat from the charger (I use it daily).
Included with the charger is an excellent manual that is clear and concise about how to charge your batteries. I found it to be very useful.
I can't vouch for the other high quality chargers on the market but I can for this one! Definitely recommended.
Customer Review: Beautifully engineered battery charger Summary: 5 Stars
This charger was designed simply to charge and maintain the health of AA and AAA NiMH batteries and it does that job superbly. You have complete control over the charging and discharging currents and even the number of cycles if you wish to try to rejuvenate old batteries. If you are uncomfortable with the amount of control you have, the default settings work quite well. There are four battery slots and each one can be doing a completely different operation.
I tried my charger out first on some batteries our field people at work had been using in digital cameras for years with an inadequate charger and was able to restore some of their capacity. Some of the modes can take a while to run.
One of the things I like best about the charger is that it tells you the capacity of each battery which helps you assess it's health and lets you pair batteries of similar capacity.
