Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PowerEx MH-C9000 WizardOne Charger-Analyzer

Customer Review: Great Charger
Summary: 5 Stars

I was extremely reluctant to buy this charger based on the comparison review by "NLee the Engineer." My takeaways from that review were:
1) The Powerex MC-C900 is HUGE. It might need its own table.
2) The Powerex MC-C900 is bright and will double as a table lamp.
3) Being able to see the status for only one battery at a time will be a huge inconvenience.
4) Setting the program for each battery will be complicated and time consuming. (Read: many, many, many keystrokes.)

I bought this charger anyway because I was concerned with reviews of the La Crosse charger over heating. (I will be charging my batteries constantly - and the possibility of something over heat when I'm out of the house is something I'd like to avoid.) Also, as a photographer I wanted the advanced functionality with this charger.

After receiving and using this charger, I want to say that all of all my concerns based on the "NLee the Engineer" review were eliminated. It's no bigger than my previous charger. I don't feel that the readout is at all too bright. And most importantly recharging batteries is very, very easy, and very fast. Getting a status for each battery is easy and fast.

Finally, the cycle mode takes about 10 seconds to set up -- it's not cumbersome in the least.

I won't say that one charger is better than another charger. But the concerns in the "NLee the Engineer" review are overstated.

Bottom line: there is nothing inconvenient about this charger. It's easier to use than my alarm clock, and I would recommend it to friends.

Customer Review: First experience - just arrived and charged 3 AAA's
Summary: 4 Stars

I have spent more time reading up on these AA/AAA chargers than the time I will ever spend using it. (I was not born to charge batteries.) The main reason for that is I wanted to save money with the LaCrosse chargers and I wanted the quality of the Maha. I placed an order for the BC-700 since it had fewer negative reviews, but thank God, Amazon would not ship for four days. In that time I reread the reviews again and decided a charger of this cost is major for me and I could not explain buying a replacement if needed. So with the Amazon/VISA card discount I could afford the MAHA. I was able to cancel the La Crosse and order the MaHa.

The Maha arrived from 17th Street Photo in five days, and well packed. I took the time to read everything because some reviews say this charger is difficult to use.
I am a first timer at any charger like this. I got the three AAA's from my "headlight" and put them in the charger one at a time and selected the mode to charge and the charge rate down to 500 for each battery as I inserted them. Let me back up here. Some reviews have said there were issues with inserting batteries so I practiced the inserting before I powered the unit up. I did each slot a couple of times just to get the feel of the battery holders and the polarity. When I checked in the morning the batteries were cool and display showed "DONE" for each battery. I checked the charge amount and all three were good as well as their voltages. I will update if and when any thing changes.

I am happy with the purchase and product at this time.

Customer Review: Squeeze every last bit of life out of your old batteries
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased the Maha C9000 as a backup for a La Crosse BC-900. I use the BC-900 at work, and the C9000 at home.

First, the good. The C9000 was able to recover a set of ancient Energizer NiMH batteries which the BC-900 wouldn't even recognize. The C9000 also has more conditioning modes than the BC-900.

Like the BC-900, the C9000 charges batteries independent of each other, and you can put each battery on a different mode. The charging rate of the second and subsequent batteries isn't limited to the charging rate of the first, an annoying limitation of the BC-900.

Now the bad. First, the C9000 is more expensive than the BC-900, and doesn't come with any extras like batteries or battery adapters.

The C9000's lighted display won't turn off as long as it's plugged in, so you'll want to move it out of the bedroom unless you want a night light.

The C9000's display only shows status for one battery at a time. To view status for all the batteries, you have to wait for it to automatically switch to the next battery, or use the buttons.

The default charging rate is 1000 mAh. The BC-900's default rate of 200 mAh is a better rate for prolonging the life of the battery.

If you keep your batteries in good shape, the cheaper and better equipped La Crosse BC-900 is a better deal, but for specialized tasks the Maha C9000 is unequaled.

Customer Review: One of the best battery chargers for consumers
Summary: 5 Stars

After started my rechargeable battery use using the quick chargers bundled, I quickly learned just how bad these chargers were for the life of the batteries. This battery charger is a real pulse charger, which is ideal for NiHMs. Originally my batteries would be un-chargeable by a month of use (game controllers traded around in a campus game room between friends for about 10 hours a day). Now I have several sets of batteries that have lasted for 4 months now with only 9% loss in original charge.

The usage requires alot of button presses per battery, so it would be nice if further developments to this product included a revamped user interface that used things like a directional pad to more quickly navigate the functions. However, this product is foremost a battery charger, a device that once set, you leave alone. And in that aspect the product shines with efficiency and intuitiveness that charges the battery in the best way possible. The individual channels allow me to recharge some batteries, discharge others, break new ones in, or refresh batteries that quick chargers and nearly killed (and often restored them to quite a large amount of usable life).

One of the best battery chargers I've ever used, and I can easily recommend this product without any reservations. If you need to charge C's or D's, you need to step up, but the higher end product that supports them does *not* have nearly the options for battery management that this unit does, so I prefer it.

Customer Review: The high learning curve is worth it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally went shopping for a battery charger because the one that came bundled with my new eneloop batteries stated it could only charge batteries in pairs, and most of my remotes and battery operated devices take three batteries. So basically, I'm a complete newb to recharging science, but as long as I was in the market, I sought out the best charger.

And I found it. Yes, the learning curve was high and the instructions (both included and at the manufacturers website) were extremely confusing initially. I was overwhelmed and had a hard time comprehending at first, but I'm stubborn and determined and I kept at it until it finally clicked. It only took me about 20 (albeit frustrating) minutes to figure out how to use this charger, which is NOT a lot of time for learning something completely new. And I'm so glad I stuck with it.

Once you understand just a tiny bit of the science of rechargable batteries and you see how the charger functions, it's an extremely intuitive device to use. It takes no time at all to use the buttons and menu options to select the desired function for each battery - I can get four batteries loaded and charging in about 30 seconds. The many functions available are extremely useful and will help you get the most life out of your rechargables. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase and I look forward to keeping my batteries in great condition for years to come.
