Customer Review: Get the best batteries and the best charger

Rechargeable batteries are both socially and economically responsible investments, but to make the most of the additional investment in time and money, do yourself a favor--buy the good stuff.
Sanyo Eneloops are and have been the best batteries (AA and AAA at least) to purchase for most gizmos and doodads, as they not only hold a charge for a decent amount of time, but they also deliver what they promise in terms of power. This allows for use in remote controls and other longer duration less demanding applications as well as having spares ready to go without having to keep charging them to keep them in a ready state. Alas, this isn't a review of the batteries, but the best batteries (all rechargeables really) demand the best charger.
Here we have one of the best chargers. It can charge eight batteries, which may or may not be a need for you. Since my Nikon SB-800 AF Speedlight for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras - Old Version uses five AAs and my Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack for the Nikon D80 & D90 Digital SLR Camera (Retail Packaging) uses six AAs, a charger than only accommodates four batteries was inadequate. When you need to charge fewer than eight batteries, worry not as this really is eight chargers in one! Charge one to eight batteries, of whatever mixture of sizes, capacities, or existing charge. The unit will use its electronic wizardry to give each battery the TLC they require. If you have batteries that require some extra TLC, you can use the conditioning feature to bring the batteries back to their original glory, but I believe this setting applies to all batteries charges at that time. Likewise the decision to use a typical fast charge vs a more delicate (and thorough) "slow" charge is also global for all the batteries in at that time. I suggest the slow charging, which takes just a bit longer, for all instances but the biggest rushes. Conditioning isn't needed much, but it has brought new life into some of my older rechargeables, including those that couldn't take any form of charge from other chargers.
Between this charger and a dozen or two Eneloops, and you'll be set for a very very long time.
Description of Maha Powerex MH-C801D Eight Cell 1-Hr PRO AA/AAA Charger
The MH-C801D features EIGHT independent circuits that charge one to eight AA or AAA batteries in any combination. Recharge in 1 hour regardless of number of batteries in normal mode. In Soft Charging Mode, recharges in two hours. The MH-C801D charger incorporates a large LCD screen displaying the charging status of each battery. The English-language-based display (CHARGE, DONE, CONDITIONING, etc) replaces traditional LED indicators. The MH-C801D provides user with the option to choose between a soft charge and a fast charge mode.
