Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Raptor S12-100 12 Gauge Clear Speaker Wire - 100ft.Customer Review: There are no cables better for a better price! Summary: 4 Stars
I was a little leary ordering 12 gauge at this price but when I received it I found out that this is really quality wire.
I was also a little skeptic about replacing relatively short runs to my center channel and L/R (3 ft CC, 8 ft L/R) where I had very good 16 gauge cable with 12. And if it would improve anything at all?
Well, in this one time I've to say BOY WAS I WRONG! Just replacing the cable has caused me to have to go back to a full audio recalibration with my audio meter. Volumes that were in the 1/4 scale on my receiver are now at almost 1/8 scale and the base is just blowing things off the shelf. My rear surround speakers (depressingly) were installed when the house was built with the 16 gauge wire so I can't do much there. But I am going to run short jumpers from the amp to the wall connectors to complete the look. It's a good thing that AMP and Receivers allow you to adjust the DB levels for front/rear because right now my THX and DBS calibrations are totally out the window!
So for people that think that it's not worth going 12 or 10 gauge then rethink that thought. For people that want to spend 4 times more on Monster cables go ahead, Monster will thank you all the way to the bank but you won't get your monies worth. Get these and forget the higher prices.
The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is probably a feature that they advertise but for me was a pain. The wire strands are literally so thin (probably a good thing for impedance) that I lost almost a foot of cable (all in all) because I would cut a little too deep and have a handful of wire on my floor. I didn't want to run 12 gauge and then only connect 14 gauge to the amp so I kept cutting it back until I got a full bundle. Maybe I should just have invested in a very good pair of 12 gauge strippers.
Either way, This is great stuff. And the clear coating and different colors make it super easy to maintain polarity.
Customer Review: Not reliably represented product Summary: 1 Stars
Although seemingly inexpensive and of quality, this is actually only a 50 foot section of speaker wire as they are counting your + and - cables as each of 50 foot length (adding up to a supposed total of 100 foot)...both + and - cables are indeed attached and thus you are only getting 50 feet of cable...
secondly, the shielding around the cable is about 1/3 that of competitors like Monster Cable (which I had bought earlier and returned because this looked like such a good deal)...perhaps the MADE TO RAPTOR"S RIGID SPECIFICATIONS IN CHINA should have been the dead give away...after cutting the cables to length and going through the process of installing this cable, as well as now listening to the speakers compared to Monster Cable I have on a nearby other surround sound set of speakers, I get more static from these cables on any speaker I put on them...
furthermore, the first picture in the product images is decidely NOT what they sent, for what I received was half that size...though the last image of the set is shot at an obscure angle, it MIGHT be the actual smaller size...
The only deal here is that the company selling these, misrepresented the product and is dealing you bad eggs...Amazon should take this item off or change its description so other buyers don't have to take all this out, go to BEST BUY, and get proper replacement cables!
Customer Review: Good product but they come short!! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this cable to do my surround for a house I was building. I did all my calculation on how much I was going to need, put some contingency of about 10% in terms or wire length, etc.
well, pretty soon I realized they the 100ft they clame they sell you, its really only 87 ft. I bought 2 rolls and both were short by over 10 ft each.
I call and they said I could return it and they will try to send me others back, I didnt have the luxury of time for doing all this since my builder was putting the drywall in the next few days. I can of course I just cannot delay the contruction of an entire house just because this wire.
So at the end I had to use whatever they send me and go buy some more cable at a local store (more expensive of course). So bottom line is that I paid for 200 ft of cable and I only got 178 ft.
so if you are buying this wire, buy a lot buy 50% more of what you are going to need. based on other reviews it looks like I am not they only one with this problem.
Customer Review: Should be advertised as "100 ft minus 15 ft" Summary: 3 Stars
The speaker wire arrived on time and in good condition as expected. The wire is thick (12ga) which is great if you have some longer runs to your speakers. The jacketing is thick and strong as well. Overall the product is top notch I must say. The only problem is that of course I got duped on the length as the other reviewers have mentioned. I only needed 90.5 feet of wire so I thought I would be safe, lo and behold the roll only had 86.5 feet so WTF? Why the heck are these rolls of wire so short, I have no clue but Amazon should get a different vendor and stop this nonsense. Take my advice, if you only need 80 feet of speaker wire total, then this 100 foot roll is perfect for you.
Edit: 09Apr08
I emailed Amazon about how much wire I was shorted and they refunded 20% of the purchase price. Great customer service from Amazon I must say, now if they would just find another speaker wire manufacturer.........
Customer Review: Nice product Summary: 4 Stars
I received the order in a timely manner and it works great. I couldn't believe the difference in loss between the 16gauge I had and this 12gauge. There was so much more loss with my 16gauge it was ridiculous. The only problem with this that caused me not to rate it a 5 was the fact that the spool wasn't 100ft. long as advertised. I measured out my room and I needed 2 41ft. runs for my back speakers. This was after I added 15% for give and play. I measured the distance down from my receiver to the floor, around every nook and cranny along my wall and up the stand for the speaker itself. So I figured I'd cut the wire exactly in half and have 2 50ft. runs and I'd coil the excess in back of something like my couch. The run just made it which I thought was weird. So I measured its length and it was only 40ft. So I ended up only getting about 80ft out of the 100ft I should have. Otherwise the speaker wire works great.
