Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech mm50 Portable Speaker System for iPod (White)Customer Review: Impressive Summary: 4 Stars
Having traded the Altec Lansing IM7 in for this baby, thought I'd share the pros and cons. Don't totally agree that the mm50 sounds better than the IM7 -- the IM7 is a much more powerful device, capable of producing a much bigger, brawnier sound. And if that is your sole criteria, the IM7 may be your best bet. However, the Ipod door on my IM7 broke after only three weeks, and Costco told us the item had been discontinued -- two red flags. So I tried the mm50, which runs half the price -- less than $100 at Costco! First thing I liked - no moving parts, so much less likely to ever break down the way the IM7 did in such a short time. Second, this has a rechargeable, internal battery; the IM7 doesn't. That, combined with the fact that the mm50 is about a fifth the IM7's size and weight, makes this truly a much more portable device. When my wife wanted to pack our IM7 for a weekend plane trip a week ago, I told her she was nuts. I wouldn't have objected over the mm50.
So far, I'm happy with the mm50. Close your eyes and the sound feels like it's coming from something 20 times bigger. And isn't that what good portable audio is all about?
Customer Review: mm50 rocks Summary: 4 Stars
These are pretty much a single purpose item for me--listen to mucic while traveling, on vacation, camping, etc. For size & weight nothing comes close RE sound. Battery life is excellent with a caveat--the unit is always "on", looking for an infrared signal & checking to see if there's an ipod attached so don't leave it tucked away for weeks then expect it to have a charge--charge it immediately before your outing. Logitech should know better. Once it's out of warranty I will probably crack the case & put a microswitch somewhere to open the battery circuit.
Another "bug" if you will is that older (3G in my case) ipods don't work properly when the unit is plugged in however fine on battery. Not a problem I decided 'cause I'm only using it when away from 110. There is a mini-trs plug for computers, etc OR if mm50 matteries are dead & use must have music (w 3G).
BTW my daughter's nano works as expected & Logitech does disclaim older ipods on their website.
Not without issues however if mine was lost or stolen I'd get another assuming something better in this price range had not been released.
Customer Review: Incredible sound and great practicality Summary: 4 Stars
I had heard a few iDock's in person and never really been that impressed until I found this one from Logitech. The sound is simply supurb for such a small, sleek unit. The internal rechargeable battery is great because you never have to worry about replacing it (atleast not for a while). The battery life is also great although you will rarely find a time when your iPod runs out of juice before the dock does. The remote is also a very nice feature to have (especially since you can run it externally to your home stereo).
The one thing that may pose a problem in the future is when you charge both the dock and the iPod simultaniously. It tends to heat up a bit in the back and although this hasn't caused a problem yet, I have heard of OTHER iDocks that can fry your iPod if you're playing it all night. Simple solution? Don't leave it on there 24/7 and give it breaks. I use the charger that came w/ the iPod itself to avoid this problem.
Overall this is a great product and a fantastic addition to the furthering convenience of the iPod. Great job Logitech for making an outstanding product for a great price.
Customer Review: good speakers and truly portable Summary: 4 Stars
received the speaker unit as used
the first impression is able to run with built-in battery, this is very handy to play everywhere
sound is about the same as JBL radial micro, but this speaker has 2 passive radiators, while JBL uses all 4 active speakers with bass reflex port
the buttons are kinda hard to press, as well as remote
I tested this speaker with iPhone and iPhone 3G (borrowed), it can charge both; it also works with bluetooth adaptor when plugged, but iPod interface will be cutoff when AUX is plugged (still can charge iPod though)
the built-in battery is kinda small, about 2x size of C size batteries, the capacity should be 7.4V with around 700mA/h, this should be enough for several hours listening without plugged in
there's ONE thing I deduct a star: the volume control resets sometimes, but this is not a big deal
now Logitech has a new version (PureFi anywhere), sound is same as this unit
I recommend this unit if you can find it, or PureFi anywhere, buy bluetooth adaptor for ipod speaker to make it wireless speaker for you phone, pda, or computer
Customer Review: Handy player for a traveling yoga teacher Summary: 5 Stars
I have now purchased two of this item--one for me, two years ago, and one for my father-in-law just recently. I like it enough for me that I bought it for him.
I use this player to play my music when I travel around to various locations to teach yoga. I teach a type of yoga that uses loud, upbeat music (not soft woo-woo music), so I want a player that can deliver good sound at a good volume in locations that can range in size from conference rooms to gymnasiums. This player does the trick.
The folding legs are simple. The case is sturdy. As others have noted, I wish there were a sleeve on the case for the power cord (just in case). You must separately bring the cord along if you wish power back-up in case of a partial charge. I have not yet had problems with decreased charge due to slow battery failure, but I usually only use the unit one hour at a time.
I bought my first unit at Costco, which still carries the product for less than all the websites I recently visited. Good luck, and enjoy your new player!
