Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech mm50 Portable Speaker System for iPod (White)Customer Review: This is powerful for its size Summary: 4 Stars
I give this 4.5 stars. I bought the IM7 for myself and mm50 for the kids. The IM7 is more powerful but the logitech mm50 is not that far behind. I saw 2 IM7s on display at Costco: one was locked so you couldn't open it, the other was not connected to the power source, but the door didn't stay closed. I read another user's review who returned his to Costco after 3 weeks when the door stopped working. I don't feel so comfortable with the moving door, same like your cassette player's door. The IM7 is so powerful but is heavy and does not have rechargeable battery. I don't plan on having parties or to take mine to many places besides the bathroom, so the weight and bulkiness do matter. The IM7 took up most of the nightstand's width.
Therefore, having the mm50 makes more sense. Since the sound packs so much punch, it is not that far behind the IM7. The remote still works for me about 20 feet away. I don't have to worry about the moving components being broken, it's so portable (can take on trips) and the big plus is having the rechargeable battery. As a trade-off for having the IM7's a notch better speakers, I exchanged the IM7 for the mm50 for myself due to portability. I know all I need to do is pop the ipod in the dock. I would pick the IM7 if it did not have moving door, and less heavy.
Go to Costco and get the mm50 for $98.99. The IM7 at Costco is $189 without the carrying bag, $214 with the bag.
Customer Review: Definitely the best in the market besides Bose! Summary: 4 Stars
I have never owned a Bose, but from all the reviews I am almost certain it is better than this speaker, but that is not the point. The point is to get the best sound quality and usage for the best price. This product does just that and much more. It has incredible audio for songs with decent kbps rates. The 3D stereo feature works with a lot of music, but not all, so don't expect it to work with your music. I found it did distort some of my rock music at over 75% volume levels, but I can live with that. It has an iPod dock connector port so you can connect it to iTunes while its in the speaker. One downside is that you can't easily use these as computer speakers, which is what I was kind of hoping for, but nevertheless, it's still one of the best buys I've made in a while. The rechargeable Li-ion battery that lasts for at least 5 hours really makes this deal sweet. It comes with a very small remote, that doesn't work well from over 15 ft away and not in direct line with the front. It comes with a case, but the case doesn't have a handle for some reason, which I think was something obvious they should've added. Works with just about any iPod, but I am not sure about the new 5th Gen iPod. If it were over $200, I wouldn't have bought it, but it was just the right price I believe at $150. If you can't spend $300 for the Bose speakers and want something portable, this is absolutely the best iPod speakers you can buy.
Customer Review: Great little portable speakers Summary: 4 Stars
Since Amazon doesn't give 1/2 stars I rate this at 4 1/2 stars. The only thing keeping it from being a 5 is the volume leavel. I own these speakers as well as the Bose Ipod speakers. The Bose are louder with a more spacious sound. That being said these speakers are great for the price. The Bose are also twice the price and have no rechargable battery. My wife and I both own Ipods and have complete divergent tastes in music. I hooked her Ipod up to these and put them in her office. It's amazing how these tiny little speakers fill that room up. The clarity and detail in the music is incredible. These speakers as with the Bose are more about a natural balanced sterio sound. You don't get the thundering floor shaking bass response you get with a subwoofer, but the bass is clearly audible. Whats great about these that beats the Bose is they have a rechargable battery. About a week ago I had some friends over for a backyard barbeque. Everybody there was amazed at the quality of the sound from this little device. I heard more then a few times ( Are you sure you don't have other speakers hooked up to that Ipod? ). There's a button on the top of the speaker unit that expands ( widens ) the sterio spread. They sound bigger and wider then they are.I had these speakers going for about 6 hours at near top volume with no distortion. The lithium zinc batterys really hold a charge. This is a great little unit.
Customer Review: reasonable sound for portables Summary: 4 Stars
I'm ready to admit that I don't have a connoisseur's ear and I don't like music so loud that I can't have a conversation - you can put that 'slant' on what I have to say. I use these with an iPod mini (2nd generation).
So far I've used these speakers mostly at home - they stay plugged in on a shelf in my sewing/craft room so the battery is charged. They sound just fine in that approx 12 x 20 room. I like having the battery so I can take them to the kitchen and not have to worry about the cord or consuming an outlet in my under-wired kitchen. I've used them in the corner of our large living/dining area as background music for a gathering.
The only traveling we've done so far was to a rented beach house - the speakers did just fine in the 'great room', with vaulted ceilings. I like that it charged my iPod (charges while plugged in, won't draing it's own battery to charge the iPod) so it was ready to plug in to the cassette adapter in the car for the trip home.
The remote has been fine for adjusting volume and pausing from across the room. The travel case is nice and has a little slot for the remote. There are a variety of inserts to cradle just about any iPod (I think even including the nano and 5G).
My only complaint so far is that there's not room in the travel case for the power cord.
Customer Review: Best iPod speaker system available - and price just came down Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this a couple of weeks ago, when the price was 20% higher. But you know what? I don't mind, because the Logitech mm50 is worth every penny I paid for it.
I know that sometimes Amazon reviewers give high ratings because they're trying to reassure themselves, after the fact, that they made the right decision. Trust me, I'd be critical of this system if it had fallen below my expectations.
It was a bit of a gamble for me, because I bought it without having heard it (somehow, not a single store I went into had a Logitech mm50 set up for demo purposes). It has already surpassed my expectations.
I've played classical, jazz and vocals, and they've all sounded amazingly good. Here's a tip: Be sure to press the "3-D sound" button -- it makes all the difference, considerably widening the field of sound. That little button is what makes this system just as good as, if not better than, the Bose equivalent (which currently costs three times as much).
It is true, as other reviewers have noted, that the remote could be better. It's pretty weak, and only effective from too close a distance to be very useful.
But with that caveat, I wholeheartedly recommend this system. And at the new lower price, you really can't lose. Happy listening, folks.
