Customer Review: Serious Headphone Issue Spoils the Sound

These speakers are great for music or games. They're especially good if you like to have strong base added to your music or games. I like the control knob on it that lets you adjust it quite well. The output jack on the speaker is a big plus too if you're using a desktop with connectors in hard to reach places.
The speakers feel strong and sturdy. Great item for the price.
UPDATE: Big problem discovered. When you insert any headphones into the headphone jack on the right speaker you will get loud background hissing, which is unrelated to the volume knob, which means you can't get rid of it. This means that the speakers are poorly shielded from the inside. Unless you open and modify them, there is no solution. This is a serious issue because if you want clear sound from the computer you have to plug the headphones directly into the computer, thus bypassing the speaker controls which a lot of people like to use.

Logitech, thank you for making speakers that make me care about music again, these are large/heavy, however this turns my laptop into a really solid movie viewer, i mean it pulls me into the movie, playing my old songs, i am hearing things i never heard before,very accurate, not loud shake the windows, how sound is meant to be.

i bought a different usb manufactured speaker model for my laptop which are great for travel, but this is kinda like my "audio docking station" for my laptop.
simply amazing!
oh and the aux input mutes the built in 1/8 inch input, how flipping smart is that??? instead of a loud buzzing noise that other lazy manufactures would overlook.
i would recommend these to anyone!
im a serious audiophile who is starting to recognize better sound at lower levels.

If you care enough about music that you don't want to get total garbage speakers, but you're not looking for high end home theater or full immersion gaming either, then these speakers will do just fine. The sound isn't going to blow you away, but they don't butcher the music at reasonable volume.
They are solid and heavy, well built. They tilt back at about a 30 degree angle (not adjustable) and are heavy enough that your small cat, ferret, iguana etc. won't knock them over.
They use a 2.75" driver and a 3" passive reflector. You're not going to get heart-thumping bass out of this type of driver, that's just physics, but the reflectors do add some low end.
I particularly like the fact that the cables don't come off, and that they are substantial. Also a huge plus - NO WALL WART AC Adapter!
They've got an axillary input, headphone jack and power LED.

I can not really add much to my review which has not already been said. These are great sounding speakers for the price.
If you want speakers with accurate music reproduction, thumping bass and higher volumes, best to spend more money and upgrade to Logitech's Z-4 model. But for casual listening and computer gaming, the X-140 speakers are more than adequate.
My biggest positive is the durability & construction; very hard plastic backs with heavy duty metal front grills (which are virtually impenetrable to pencils, pens, and other kid wielded objects). So far, after 4 months of use, I have deemed them "kid proof". Those of you who have small children know what I mean. I highly recommend the X-140's for those on a budget or those who just can't see the logic in dropping big dollars when kids are around. ****April 2010 update. Still in great condition and rockin' strong!****

Needed to upgrade the speakers but didn't want to spend a lot. These logitech speakers fit the bill. Many speaker sets are large and cumbersome which creates a need to move equipment around. I didn't want to do that. This set is slightly larger than the $10 speakers you can pick up anywhere, but the sound is greatly improved. The volume is much better and so is the quality.
These speakers are being used in a large room for video conferencing with students. The nice part is the size. As I said before, I didn't want to have to rearrange equipment to get a set of speakers with a subwoofer to fit so I gambled on there. No regrets! I simply plugged them in, placed them where the old external speakers were and turned them on. No problems hearing the webconferencing now!
Definitely consider getting these if you don't have a lot of space. And, Logitech is a trusted name.
