Customer Review: Great speakers at a great price
Summary: 4 Stars

These speakers are so cheap I didn't believe for a second they would be even tolerable.

I was wrong. -1 star for clunky appearance, otherwise a great purchase.

Yeah, they're not Klipsch speakers but for computer speakers sitting on your desk they RULE. Decent base, clear treble, and amazingly enough with the exception of very high notes these speakers image very nicely. With both pointed towards you slightly the sound is very neutral and frankly doesn't sound like it's coming from the speakers, but rather from around you. They're surprisingly balanced sound-wise, solid base, great midrange and not overwhelming on the treble.

Another great aspect (for me) is that they have a front-facing earphone outlet, so I no longer have to reach behind my stupid computer to plug in my earphones. Also the front facing physical volume control and tone control are nice as well. And they really are plug-and-play, plug them into a wall socket, plug them into your computer's earphone jack and voila... 100% improved sound.

Very nice, a great way to spend $30 or less and massively improve your computer sound system.

My only complaint is that they're a bit awkward looking, they do look like the kind of thing you'd find at a garage sale or attached to the computers in a high-school computer lab... but really for $30 I'm not expecting them to be stunning examples of design, they already well exceeded my expectations so I can't really complain much.

Customer Review: Fantastic for under $30

I bought a pair of these 2 years ago because I needed some fairly cheap desktop speakers for music and movies. I was initially impressed by how loud these are. I never go past 3/4 volume because it's just too loud for my small apartment. If you're trying to fill a house with music, obviously you'd want something else, but these are plenty loud for a room or a studio apartment.

The sound is good. Keep in mind that if you want bass, you should opt for the 2.1 system instead of the 2.0. I live in a small apartment and the bass I get from these is fine. I don't even turn the bass knob all the way up, more like a little more than halfway. They sound nice and don't disturb my neighbors. I have an extensive music collection - everything from trance to death metal - and these speakers play everything pretty well, again keeping in mind that they cost less than 30 dollars.

They are heavy and seem to be quality made, since mine are still working after over 2 years. The grill on the front is actually a nice feature because it's solid and the holes are small, so nothing is going to get in and damage the speakers.

Overall I think these are a very good bargain, and I'm glad that mine are working over two years later after pretty much daily use. I've thought about getting more expensive speakers, but since these work so well it's hard to justify buying something else. If you want speakers for your computer, these are a good bet.

Customer Review: Just What We Needes.
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought a 27" Samsung HD LCD TV from Costo for use in a Kitchen. The picture is great but the speakers in the TV are horrible. At Max volume we could barely hear the thing. So we looked long and hard for external speakers that would plug into the headphone jack on the back panel of the TV. The Logitech speakers looked promising. We read the reviews and still were not convinced this was the answer, but at the price we decided what the heck, let's give em a try. We have other Logitech products that we have never had problems with.

The speakers came today and I hooked them in right away - one jack to plug into the TV - that was it - elapsed time - 20 seconds. Now bear in mind that these are not designer speakers, but they are relatively small and are barely noticeable sitting on either side on the TV. They look good. We cannot use our remote for volume control with these babies but that too is OK, given the area we are using them in (the kitchen). Now, here's the really good news.....there is a 300-400% increase in the volume we now get out of the TV using these speakers. The volume has a dial which we have at about 50% of full and that eclipses the volume from the TV speakers by about a factor of 2. There is also a base/treble knob to adjust tone. All in all, they are economical, simple, efffective, and if you don't require sophisticated sound they are easily a very wise investment.

Customer Review: Great set of speakers!
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased a monitor (ASUS ML238H) recently and needed a pair of speakers to match. I'm using the monitor exclusively for gaming on a PS3. I initially intended to buy a 2.1 system until I found this product. These speakers are inexpensive, look great, sound great and have everything I need. Yes, there is no sub-woofer, but these speakers produce enough bass to satisfy me.

The design is sleek, all black, with metal grills protecting the speaker. They are heavier than I thought, but that is a good thing. Cords are long enough with a 3.5mm audio jack and a simple power plug (not those massive bricks). The right speaker has the two knobs, one for volume and one for tone. I found the tone turned almost all the way up sounded the best. The right speaker also had a headphone jack and an audio in port on the front. The speakers got plenty loud when turned up and yet it still sounded clear with the volume low.

My only gripe is this squelching squeak when I first turn the speakers on after being off for a while. It's not interference from anything; it is something internal to the speakers. I found that it wasn't that bad, although a little annoying. The goods definitely outweighed this one complaint.

Overall I'm happy with this purchase and I recommend these speakers to anyone looking for 2.1 sound in an inexpensive 2.0 speaker set.

Customer Review: Great speakers for apartment / condo dwellers.
Summary: 5 Stars

Below are first impressions on hooking these Logitech X-140 2.0 speakers up to my computer, an internet radio, a TV and an MP3 player.

Here are the physical attributes I like. These speakers are thin with a small footprint and are easily grabbed and moved from place to place. The wire joining both speakers is heavy round cord, unusual for tabletop speakers. An attached long 3.5 mm stereo cable plugs into your computer or other source. There is no block power supply, simply a standard 2-prong AC connector. The front has two jacks- attach a stereo headphone or a stereo 3.5 mm plug from a source. The speakers angle about 65 degrees instead of straight ahead at 90 degrees, throwing sound up at your ears from the table.

These Logitech X-140 2.0 speakers produce pleasant sound. High notes come through perfectly, good for hearing-challenged older adults. The tone control actually controls the amount of bass added while not swamping or degrading the nice high notes. The speakers may be played at low volume without apparent loss- perfect for quietly listening to music or voice in apartments or condominium.

I've bought powered computer speakers in the past and have been disappointed. These are high-value, budget-priced speakers. I plan to buy a second set very soon.- Arthur.
