I wanted an inexpensive pair of speakers and after reading reviews on many different less than $40 speakers I decided I'd try these out. The TV in our room was too loud for sleeping when it was on the lowest setting which is why I wanted something that I could control and turn down. There is only a headphone jack so if you are going to use it for your TV you have to make sure you have the headphone jack to plug them into. For this purpose and casual listening, these speakers are more than enough. There is no need to spend any more unless you want something with a lot of bass for movies or game playing. Plus it is nice to be able to turn them off completely if you aren't going to use them for a while to save on energy.
