Customer Review: Works, sort of
Summary: 3 Stars

I have the receiver portion hooked up to my workshop's stereo, about 60 feet from the transmitter, through a few walls, the house electrical boxes, and past a garage. Though reception is a bit touchy at this extreme, it does the job. I've also tried it hooked up to the main house sound system and a 2.1 Cambridge Soundworks speaker system in a bedroom. Reception at those locations, closer and without as many obstacles, has been decent and not as touchy. However, so far I've been unable to get the control functions (pause, skip forward or backward, stop) to work. I've even tried placing the receiver within the same room as the computer and transmitter, no luck. I've even tried downloading WinAmp, still no luck. Logitech's online support forum has been responsive, if slow (we're talking weeks between replies), and as yet have not been able to solve the problem. It could very well be the unit doesn't play well with Microsoft Multimedia Keyboards, as those keyboards seem to think they "own" the control functions. So, bottom line for me: I'm able to generate and use playlists from my computer and "pipe" the tunes to my workshop, which is what I required. Sure, it would have been nice if the control functions also worked, but that's not a deal breaker for me. Why only 3 stars? The pieces are nicely crafted (though the included remote is a bit small and cheap feeling, and worthless for me if I can't get the control functions to work), and it more or less does the job. It just seems this is a great "first try" and the product and / or support is not quite ready for "prime time".

Customer Review: Diogenes would have loved this product

3/10/07 p.s Someone has asked me if the remote control can be used to pick and choose through the music list.. I don't know. I've never used the remote control. I just plug the sending unit into my laptop, click play on a Realplayer, Winamp, or Windows Media player internet radio station and turn on my stereo.. it comes out there! It's only a short distance, just one wall.. but I've never noticed anything interfering with it OR the logitech interfering with anything else. At this new price it's a no-brainer.. BUY IT! And now back to the original review from 11/3/06...

An Honest gadget! It does exactly what it says it will do and it does it just as hassle-free as it claims. I have no need to do anymore than run my internet radio stations from my pc to the stereo in my bedroom at night, and so all I've had to do is plug the transmitter in at my laptop and the plug the receiver into a spare input on my stereo. That's it! And as someone mentioned, it's close enough to CD quality for my ears. Truly amazing!

The only thing I would change would be to put an on/off switch on the transmitter as I'm concerned that possibly, eventually, the daily sliding in and out of the USB port may wear it out. Although after two months there is absolutely no sign of any wear.

This is really a handsome looking unit and along with Logitech's new keyboard that I've seen reviewed at Amazon, I would say really heralds their move into the upper tiers of electronic products with panache and quality.

Customer Review: Cool product, sounds great, good range, but signal degradation problem
Summary: 2 Stars

When I first started using this, I was very satisfied. The sound quality is great, there is no static or signal loss, and the range is more than adequate. The ability to skip tracks forward and backward is convenient, and I do not have a problem with the transmitter temporarily disabling the computer speakers. Not to mention no DRM issues.

Then I noticed that occasionally I would get skips and signal interruptions that would get progressively worse, until the audio becomes unlistenable. After this happened repeatedly, I notice a pattern- this seemed to happen after about 10-20 minutes into listening. I looked online and found a few others complaining about the same problem, and suggested that this may be due to the overheating of the transmitter. So next time the signal degradation occured, I touched the transmitter, and it was indeed hot. I then attached the transmitter extender, and this improved the situation, since the trasmitter was not getting as hot, but the problem remains. I am now convinced that this is due to overheating, since the problem worsens with hot weather, and when the trasmitter is plugged directly (and therefore gets hotter from my laptop).

I do not know how widespread this problem is, but for me this is a dealbreaker. I am stuck with this thing now, but my use of it is limited. The product is great otherwise, but this signal degradation makes this useless for more than 20 minutes at a time, especially when the temperature in my house is on the warm side.

Customer Review: Garbage
Summary: 1 Stars

I wouldn't buy this product no matter how low the price goes. This thing is what made me decide to stop buying items from logitech.

The remote and buttons on the receiver are useless. The software is frustratingly buggy. It pretty much hijacks your system and you lose control over which speakers you can send your sound to. The software has very little options for customization. I was hoping that the website would update the software or maybe they'd release some patches but it hasn't happened.

I bought this thinking I can play music on both my computer and another part of the house at the same time -- or hook up multiple receivers and have them all play at once but you can't.

So I have the receiver in the living room and my computer is in the bedroom. When I want to listen to music in the living room I have to plug the USB transmitter into my computer -- I leave it unplugged because when I plug it in it won't let me chose which speekers the music goes to. When I'm done listening to music I have to unplug the device and restart my computer.

I think the worst thing for this is the software. It seems like the pushed it out overnight right before it shipped. Support from logitech was nonexistent. I tried emailing them and calling them asking for help and then a refund. The only thing they did for me was point me to their website to the forums so I could complain about a sub-par product with all the other suckers who have bought it.

Customer Review: Great device for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

Likes:

I like the size. It's small and the slick black look is nice.

I like the remote. It's very thin and light and navigates the music player on your PC from another room.

I like the lights. It's very easy to tell if you're connected to the PC by a big blue or big red light on the wireless device.

Dislikes:

I don't like that you have to have your music player keyed up and a playlist loaded on your PC in the next room. It would be nice if you could launch the Media Player from the remote and have it start playing the last playlist that was loaded, but I realize this is a tall order for a device of this value. I realize I can get these features if I am willing to pay more money.

I have random problems with it being staticy or disconnecting. Not very often, but I'm not very far from the device, so it can't really be a distance issue. if it's staticy, I just skip to another track and it typically fixes itself. If it disconnects, I can typically hit the Connect button and it comes back up.

Would I recommend this device? Definitely. However, if you have to pay more than $50 for it, I might hesitate to recommend it. There are probably better solutions out there for that money. Otherwise, I'm really happy with this device as I can now listen to my large music library in the kitchen like I wanted!
