Customer Review: if you've got a laptop, you don't need sonos, get the Logitech PC system
Summary: 5 Stars

About a year ago I started looking for a way to play mp3's and streaming audio from anywhere in my house and control it remotely. I was looking for a clean, cost effective solution that didn't limit the audio formats I could use.
While the Sonos solution was alluring, particularly the remote, a $100 for the Logitech easily beat it. For one, I could use my laptop as a remote (I already take it with me room to room) and the logitech piece is relatively un-intrusive (about 4 inches sticking out of the usb). Plus, it doesn't need to be charged separately (unlike the bluetooth version). Secondly, it connects reliably every time, and it actually sounds better than if I run a cord out of my headphone jack into the stereo. Thirdly, the range really is over a hundred feet (we're talking 3-5x the bluetooth). It may be the 150+ they advertise, I just haven't tried being that far away from the receiver (which I have in a closet in the middle of my house powering speakers in various rooms.)
Downside, the bluetooth version would support my ipod and other mp3 players in addition to my laptop.

However, I got the bluetooth version for my brother for Christmas and we were relatively disappointed. Logitech is actually being a little optimistic when they advertised the 30+ foot range. Secondly, we found that the device needed to be still not to cause interference (this was a real let down) and thirdly, the bulkier reciever peice needed to be charged on a regular basis. If you're still thinking Sonos, remember that wifi can be achieved for $50, a new laptop runs $800 and that still leaves you a couple hundred to buy a decent stereo and drive more than 2 speakers per room. ;)

Customer Review: great device with a few minor problems
Summary: 4 Stars

The Logitech Wireless Music System works great. I plugged it in, booted iTunes, and had music over my home stereo instantly. Unlike units that use your wireless network, this device works independently over Bluetooth, which means you don't have to tinker with your network to make it work. The transmitter is very small, and sticks out about 3 inches from your USB port. The receiver is also quite small. Note that the remote control works with the receiver, not the transmitter, so you have to be in the same room with your stereo to use the remote. The sound quality is excellent.

Minor issues are:
1. I was unable to separate computer sounds from the output from iTunes. I read somewhere that there was an update to the software to fix that, but when I checked Logitech's site, they didn't even show the Logitech Wireless Music System for PC anywhere on their site. I sent Logitech customer support an email asking for information on available updates. That was over three weeks ago, and they still have not responded, other than an auto response promising an answer to my question in 24 hours. So for Logitech support, I give 0 stars.
2. There are some interference problems, though they've been a minor nuisance to me. The device causes some crackle on my 2.4 Ghz cordless phone, but that can be fixed by moving the phone away from the transmitter. My microwave oven causes occasional signal dropouts on the Logitech Wireless Music System for PC, but that's most likely because my laptop is only a few feet from the microwave.

Overall, a great product for the price, and a relatively inexpensive way to try out going totally digital with your music.

Customer Review: Buy one, hook it up, be happy!

I did my research and found too many "issues" with the other products meant to connect to a receiver through my wireless network (no DRM support, WEP/WPA security issues, price, flaky connectivity). I decided to try this Bluetooth device as it circumvents these issues and professed a longer range. I had a difficult time finding a unit in a retail store, and when I did find it in CompUSA, they had them displayed with the iPods instead of with the other digital music/networking equipment. I bet they'd sell more of these if they were in the proper aisle! Anyway, once I got it home the install took 2 minutes (no joke!) Plug in the flashdrive-sized transmitter to a USB port on the PC, plug in the receiver to the provided A/C adaptor and your stereo's aux or phono jacks with provided RCA cables, and voila! They found each other and lived happlily ever after. I opened up Windows Media Player and was listening to my 1000+ MP3 and WMA songs in no time. The caveat here is that you may have to play with the volume levels between your PC, the reciever, and your stereo to avoid distortion. I also found using the equalizer in WMP helped refine the sound - the low frequency output is a little heavy and tends to make mud. I listened to it a while and decided to install the optional software so I could separate the PC sounds from the music being beamed to my stereo.

My only complaint is that there is no digital connection. For the price ($149) it should really have a digital option.

Bottom Line: Great device for turning your PC's audio library and your stereo into a whole-house music system. Glad I took a chance on this one!

Customer Review: A few issues to consider...before purchasing
Summary: 4 Stars

For the last two years I have been pumping music throughout our home with the Logitech Music anywhere system. At the time I bought the Logitech I was very satisfied until a few of its design flaws became apparent. Placement of the transmitter proved to be an issue; our audio system is in a closet in the basement and our computer is on the first floor almost directly above the closet below...approximately 10'-15' away. The system would frequently not link up. To resolve the issue I would have to shutdown both iTunes and the music anywhere software, then start up the Logitech software first and then try sometimes several times restarting iTunes to reset the connection. I eventually installed a network range expander in the basement to boost the signal...it improved the connection reliability to a more tolerable level. Another issue I found frustrating is that you can only connect to ONE Logitech receiver at a time, the system is designed to support up to four receivers per transmitter. We have three places that we that enjoy music in our home, the Kitchen, Basement and Outside by the Spa. We frequently entertain so having "music everywhere" is a desired requirement. I must admit I didn't read the fine print on the Logitech system I believed that the "Music anywhere" name told the whole story...when in fact, I should have been looking for a "Music EVERYWHERE" system. Beyond those two issues the system worked "as designed" and we enjoyed the system after we understood its limitations.
I would and have recommended this product to friends and family; two systems were purchased per my recommendation and are still functioning fine.

Customer Review: Very good!

Terrific product! Get it before it is gone though. Logitech, like many companies, are upgrading their stuff to much more expensive products. The music system is just what I need. I wanted to get music from my PC down to my stereo...and it works extremely well.

How much should such a product cost...all the new stuff is costing $100 or more! Ridiculous! For $50 the music system basically takes your PC/internet/subscription music from the PC and sends it to your stereo. One should not have to pay an arm and a leg for this....and Logitech does not disappoint with this product.

I only gave it 4 stars because:
1) Logitech no longer supports or is offering this product except for what seems to be left in stock.
2) Software is extremely weak. I don't use it at all. And Logitech no longer supports it and does not provide upgrades. That said, the product does what it is supposed to without the software so I don't realy care. I just change my speaker system driver from "on PC speakers" to "Logitech Anywhere USB" whenever I want to listen on my stereo....then change back again to PC when working at the PC
3. Because Logitech is dropping this product in favor of one that is double the price but basically does the same thing. Sure the new product has a small LCD so you can see the music info from your music library...but come on....double the price???

Hey, you want to send music from your PC (mp3's, internet radio, subscription music, subscription XM/Sirius via internet) to your Stereo then this product WORKS. It is simple and no frills. BUT IT WORKS!
