Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Wireless Keyboard K340Customer Review: good but with major design issues Summary: 2 Stars
The logitech K340 is a good keyboard but, again as with other latest logitech products, it keeps reinventing itself to the point where features become major issues. If you are looking for productivity, this is far from being a perfect keyboard. I bought this keyboard when it was on sale for 39.99 (Mar 2011).
I'll leave design issues aside in my review, functionality is my point and objective, I don't have the time to admire my keyboard, soon to be dusty a few hours after I took it out of the box. If I want to please my eyes, I have other opportunities in a beautiful companion or a sporty car. A keyboard is, and will remain, nothing more than a essential and hopefully well-designed tool.
Pros:
1. silent keys, nice typing feel (closer to diNovo for notebooks, no longer manufactured), keys are not laptop type, feel firmer and more "elastic", concave keys
Almost perfect but its Cons (read below) ruin it.
Major Cons:
1. key position of important keys has been changed again and not to the advantage of the user
2. DEL key, according to some research, the third most frequently pressed key, is squeezed above BACKSPACE and it is smaller. If you type a lot and make errors and do not want to use the mouse as this would be a waste of time, then the position of DEL key is disastrous. They knew it when they manufactured the original keyboard designs to keep DEL key apart.
3. again, if you type or PLAY GAMES, you make good use of arrow keys. In this keyboard, arrow keys are squeezed below RIGHT SHIFT making either these keys or the SHIFT in a game useless. If typing a lot, ARROW keys would be very useful in performing a selection while avoiding the mouse to select. If you are a fast typing person, you will find these tiny keys are too close to each other, and too small to the point where their use becomes annoying. So annoying, I mentally avoid using them which creates a stressful situation when typing and, as a result, makes me return this otherwise wonderful keyboard.
4. HOME and END keys, probably mainly used in typing, are smaller than in standard keyboard design. Reaching end of a line when copying a file name or a line of text is more difficult with this keyboard.
Conclusion: I would not recommend this keyboard to anybody but beginners. Veteran computer users looking for productivity (and who mentally measure the time required to reach a key) might want to avoid this another poorly designed product from Logitech.
Customer Review: Perfect size, almost. Summary: 3 Stars
Who really uses a numeric keypad today? Adding that real estate to every keyboard means that a right-hand mouse is pushed further afield of comfortable ergonomics.
The diNovo bluetooth keyboard was just about the most perfect keyboard made... a separate numeric keypad could be positioned to the left or right of the keyboard (or shoved in the drawer until needed), and the media functions were terrific... alas, "perfect" except that one needed to use the bluetooth/mouse charging station for reliable bluetooth connectivity. (Pairing with on-board bluetooth could lead to erratic connectivity; bluetooth dock would not link with other bluetooth devices.)
Even with its built-in numeric keypad, the new Logitech K340 compact keyboard is hardly larger than the keypad-less diNovo, yet it offers full-size key spacing, making it an ideal desktop keyboard. Furthermore, the new Logitech USB "Unified Receiver" holds the promise for simplifying connectivity of multiple (Logitech-only, no doubt) wireless devices (keyboards, mice, and who knows what else!) through one single USB tranceiver that's small enough to leave plugged in. (Note: Since you'll only need to use one receiver, all of Logitech's current "Unified Receiver" products come with built-in safe storage for the extra USB receiver -- nicely done folks!)
Note: if you haven't yet looked at the Logitech® Anywhere Mouse MX(tm) it is well worth the asking price!
Two areas in which Logitech missed their mark with this keyboard include action (a bit cheap and clicky feeling -- very un-diNovo like) and layout (I can't ever seem to find the HOME, END and DELETE keys when I need them, and the half-sized cursor keys seem to be an unnecessary short-cut). (The glossy black finish tends to accentuate the slightest fingerprint, but Logitech's renowned industrial design masters may know something I do not in this area.)
In short, a perfect keyboard would mate the diNovo's layout and tactility with the K340's excellent connectivity. When it arrives, I'll replace my K340.
Customer Review: Logitech K340, The Best Compact Wireless Keyboard So Far Summary: 5 Stars
Just perfect ! This replaced my Kensington SlimBlade Media Set (Software needs IMPROVEMENT) and Logitech DiNovo Win Keyboard (Compact but TOO HEAVY).
So far this is my favorite compact keyboard at the moment compare to my other small keyboards that I used previously (Kensington SlimBlade Media Set, DiNovo Window & DiNovo Media Desktop), this one is very light, compact and I especially like the deep red orange highlights behind the keys, it gives it a very discreet sexy glow. I'm not a heavy typist so I got all the keys that I need, although using it with Photoshop, some of the key locations needs getting use to, but its small compromise, the full integrated number pad is a plus.
Pros:
Compact & light with a full number keypad.
Light but looks & feels very well made.
When typing the keys, it feels like a real keyboard (Not Laptop like)
Nice Soft Edges all around
Deep Red Orange Highlights behind the keys is very slick and hide all the dust & dirt better compare to black.
On & off switch is a nice addition
Small compact receiver
Unifying receiver is a plus (Still have to try)
Battery Life (Still too early to know)
Good SetPoint software to customize keys & Settings (Much Much Much Better than Kensington)
Cons:
Glossy Black finish is nice but it's thumb prints magnet (but easy to clean LOL)
Unifying receiver does not work with my old favorite mouse ( MX 1100 & MX Revolution)
Some key location needs getting use to.
Conclusion:
Logitech did it again, for the price, it's a great compact wireless keyboard, unifying receiver is a nice feature but does not work with older mouse & products. For the heavy typist, I recommend try it out first before getting one.
U Wish !
Unify with DiNovo mini keyboard .
I wish the new MX mouse that could be unified with this keyboard is NOT RECHARGEABLE
Toggle to double as mouse like the one on DiNovo Mini
Customer Review: Fantastic keyboard that can make you a MINI DESKTOP! Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this product because I feared that after switching over to a laptop from my desktop, that my long hours of typing at an uncomfortable angle would bring me a lot of problems. I figured I would just get a wireless mouse and keyboard and find a position that worked for me, but in the process of finding a good setup that was comfortable with this keyboard, I discovered an AWESOME trick!
I got the Intelligels Soft Foam Laptop Wrist Rest off of amazon, and placed it over my touchpad area as you're supposed to. Then I placed my new wireless keyboard right above it, on top of where the laptop keyboard is. The result is a magical combination of wrist support, and easy typing. It feels EXACTLY like a desktop, and the super-small design of this K340 wireless keyboard makes it work perfectly. The wrist rest supports you and keeps the keyboard from sliding down at all, while the keyboard also fits perfectly width-wize with my laptop.
You can use this as a wireless keyboard as advertised and it will be wonderful, or you can use it to sit atop your current laptop keyboard (if you get the wrist support thing too), and make yourself an extremely comfortable mini-desktop for more strenuous, long-term typing or GAMING. Fantastic!
PROS
+ Lightweight
+ Small size
+ Full numpad
+ Desktop-quality keyboard keys
+ Wonderful battery life
+ On/Off switch to conserve battery
+ Has a storage area for the receiver for safe keeping (underneath battery lid)
+ Slanted design allows for more comfortable typing angle
+ Plug-and-play instant recognition on my Windows 7 machine
+ In all, probably the most satisfying purchase I've ever made on amazon. No complaints whatsoever.
NEGATIVES
- Wasn't free
- Didn't come with unicorns
- Doesn't provide enough blunt force trauma to disable an intruder
- Wouldn't write this review for me (I even updated drivers to the year 2042)
Customer Review: Good product, but not for a lover of mechanical keyboard Summary: 1 Stars
I ended up returning this product right after I typed my first word, but i wanted to make clear that it is a good product, but I think it is not a great product for some, including me.
The pros:
(1) It is Logitech's I love their mouse. And although I only used this product less than a minute, I can see that it is well built.
(2) Although I use the product only less than a minute, there was no problem in reception. It is expected as all recent Logitech products have great reception.
(3) Unified receiver. If your mouse also uses the unified receiver (an asterisk on the top of the nano recveier incidates that the receiver is the Logitech's unified receiver)
(4) Looks gorgeous
(5) Smallish for a full keyboard
(6) Caps Lock On/Off and Num Lock On/Off appears on the screen
The Cons
(1) The "feel" is just horrible for me. I love mechanical keyboard with hard "click" feel, and it just does not give any of the "feel". It is basically wireless notebook/netbook keyboard. For a person who uses Happyhack and Das keyboard, all the good things about this keyboard is meaningless, as it is not doing a good job (again for my personal taste) as a keyboard. If you have no problem with, let's say, the keyboard of Macbook, or ThinkPad, you'll be fine.
(2) Unified receiver does not seem compatible (I might be wrong) with older products from Logitech. Although I have a mouse that I purchased recently, it does not use the Unified receiver, so I have to use two USB ports for mouse and keyboard.
(3) As somebody mentioned in a comment, I don't think there is an indicator for caps lock = on.
At the end, it is a great keyboard for those who have no problem with laptop keyboard, but unfortunately I am not one of them...
