Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech VX Revolution Ergonomic Design Cordless 2.4 GHz Wireless Laser Mouse for Notebooks/Laptops/PCs with Hyper-Fast ScrollingCustomer Review: Conflicted, great product - Logitech Rebate SCAM! Summary: 3 Stars
I loved the mouse. Very quiet for web browsing during boring lectures. Unfortunately it's already been lost :[
But the rest of this `review' is really about the rebate scam...be aware. Prior to buying the mouse and diNovo keyboard, I'd read about people's checks mysteriously disappearing (this may be my case), Logitech not receiving their (original!) UPC codes (my case) and asking to resubmit information again (my case again).
Being especially vigilant after what's really a luxury purchase, I made sure to mail off the rebate forms right away. I bought the items on 8/14/07, mailed the forms off 8/19/07. After not hearing anything for a month, I went to the rebate status site and put my information only for it to not hit any results. The only option the site gives is to send an email. After a week of not receiving a reply, I decided to hunt down a phone number (866.533.6880); I was told to fax a copy of the original receipt. Ironically on the day I called, I received a response saying there was no record of my submission. I printed out a copy of my receipt from Amazon (note: the receipt indicated both items bought at the same time) and faxed it to the number provided. The next day I received an email response (2nd) to the original inquiry indicating they mouse rebate had been located but that I needed to send them the UPC code for the keyboard.
So to make a very long story short, after being so P.O.ed that I couldn't resolve this, I called Amazon threatening that I would return the keyboard if this weren't resolved. So, they in turn credited me with the $30 rebate amount. So, I'm writing this review to say...if you're having the same problem, call Amazon, and hopefully once they have to refund enough customers, the situation will resolve itself.
Customer Review: Best full size, cordless notebook mouse Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned one of these for well over 2 years and bought this 2nd one at my son's request to go with a new laptop computer he got for school. Small enough to fit in a laptop messenger bag, but sized more like a desktop mouse to fit your hand comfortably. I also own the larger MX revolution for a desktop machine and prefer the VX over it.
Great feel & if you want to tune its operation to specific software features (It's user selectable/context sensitive in that regard), it's very easy to set up with the included software. Very handy web navigation & office application productivity controls all of which are well positioned beneath different fingers. Battery life is outstanding compared to other cordless mice I've owned. It takes a single AA cell and it usually averages about 8 weeks on a premium brand alkaline, although it varies a bit with use & battery shelf age. I don't think I've replaced a battery in much less than 5-6 weeks and the longest one has gone has been about 10-12 weeks.
It is a right handed mouse with a clearly defined thumb rest and control set, so lefties be aware - My son is a lefty, but likes a right handed mouse, so no issue for him. Only thing that could be improved is if Logitech would supply it with a tiny USB transceiver like the VX Nano uses and if the scroll wheel mode select were more accessible. If you don't switch wheel modes often, then that "complaint" is irrelevant. The transceiver complaint is common to most cordless mice, but it'd be nice if you could use the smaller Nano transceiver (they're not compatible though). I'd definitely pony up $10.00 for a replacement if they did to avoid the risk of damaging my laptop's USB ports cramming it in the case with the transceiver hanging out (been there, done that once already).
Customer Review: Disappointed and surprised... Summary: 3 Stars
I was really disappointed in this mouse. I was excited to get this mouse for a really good price (after rebate and sale price), but I ended up returning it due to a chronic issue with (as reported with some of the earlier reviews) the scrollwheel button.
I use that button a lot (for Firefox tabs) and it is just not user-friendly:
1. it's hard to push compared to other mice
2. at times it doesn't register a click
3. at times the scrollwheel doesn't scroll
I really wanted this mouse to work for me, because I usually love Logitech mice a ton better than others - the ergonomics also didn't feel right and that was a surprise. The problem I have is that at first it felt good, but after using it a while the height at the back of the mouse made my hand feel fatigued. I've noticed that several Logitech mice now have a slightly higher 'hump' that causes fatigue for smaller hands, including my wife's.
This mouse looks great and could have been the ultimate mouse (which I had hoped for), but in the end I just feel it has quality issues that took away the positives. I don't quite understand why the scrollwheel is an issue with a good amount of these mice, since that is the main feature that the revolution got it's name from - besides not registering the clicks correctly, it is not intuitive and I found myself not wanting to use it (even if it was working correctly) - the pressure needed to press that scrollwheel button is too much for continual use of it. Sometimes it feels like you feel a double-click while you're only trying to register one click with the middle button - it's pretty strange and the reason why I say it's not user-friendly.
Mine's going back to Amazon due to the issues listed in this review.
Customer Review: Top 10 best computer add-on goodie! Summary: 5 Stars
My first cordless mouse was a Logitech, then switched to the various wireless MS meeses, and then settled in on the latest greatest. The VX Revo' from Logitech is awe-some-ful.
All the other people having any a problem with it could have solved 99 percent of them by using a different USB port. It runs great on Vista and XP. Had issues with IE7 and scrolling slowly, that's it. Runs from anywhere in a room, even on a couch. MS mouse varieties had trouble getting away from the table. The person that said it only runs on a white table must have been looking at my MS mice. I still use my MS mice, and they run fine. A Volkswagen will get you somewhere too.
The VX is the only mouse I know of that gives programmable buttons for play/pause, multi-volume controls, zooming, next/back/forward/previous, controls for movies and music, and starting various programs that you may use the most. The scroll wheel is the bomb. One flick and you can fly to the bottom of a hundred pages, or flip it over and switch to ratchet scroll. The USB chip hides in the body of the mouse when not in use. The software will notify you when batteries are at a critical level, and one AA battery goes fooreeeveer. The laser pickup beats MS mice hands down. I put it on a glass table top and it tracked perfect. I just now put it down on the carpet and it ran perfect. Haven't tried Jello.
Great gaming mouse also, and again far lighter and trackable than my MS tank meeses. If your computer is running clean and free of trouble I would guarantee this little guy to work better than almost any other computer peripheral you've owned. I own three of these mice, and run them on XP and Vista from everywhere and performs. It is in my top ten of items I recommend and have owned on computer.
Customer Review: VX Revolution works great, a tad pricey Summary: 4 Stars
This is my second VX Revolution wireless laptop mouse. The first one died after a large number of drops onto my terrazzo and tile floors.
The mouse has more features than I really need. which make it a bit pricey, but the quality is superb and the features I do use are worthwhile.
First, the wireless range is excellent. I've used the mouse in presentations with the laptop about 20 feet away, and it worked flawlessly.
Second, battery life is excellent. I'm still on the battery I put in when I installed the mouse months ago.
Third, the wheel has a feature that allows you to vary the resistance to spinning it. You can make it very slick, so that a flick of the finger will take you a long, long way down a list, or you can adjust it so that it has one of several resistance settings that will slow it down with "clicks" that give you more control. You will normally want to use it in one of the "click" modes.
Fourth, the app that comes with it is easy to use for setting up features.
Fifth, two Zoom buttons let you zoom in our out on your screen when using a browser, so that you can enlarge type or zoom out to see more of a large page. These and all other buttons are conveniently located so you can reach them without stretching your fingers.
Sixth: the dongle is a solid USB device, smaller than a thumb drive, doesn't get hot, and tucks neatly into the mouse for travel.
Finally: the gliding action (a laser light) is smooth and works on a variety of surfaces. It's failed for me only on a clear acrylic surface. You'll need a mousepad for that.
There are other features that I won't comment on, but you can find them in the literature.
