Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech VX Revolution Ergonomic Design Cordless 2.4 GHz Wireless Laser Mouse for Notebooks/Laptops/PCs with Hyper-Fast ScrollingCustomer Review: Logitech VX Revolution - Probably the best notebook mouse around. Summary: 4 Stars
As a firm supporter of Logitech mice after a couple of failed Microsoft ones, I would like to share some of the pros and cons about the Vx Revolution.
I am currently using the Logitech MX610, LX5, V200 and V400.
The size of the VX Revolution is smaller than a normal desktop mouse but a bit on the large side for a notebook mouse. However, the size and feel of the mouse allows hours of comfortable usage.
Ever since i used my MX610, I have become a sucker for additional customizable buttons on the mouse and the VX Revolution has buttons that are similarly placed on the left hand side, activated by the thumb. The precision zoom button is a bit stiff but still functional and programmable.
The new quick search button just infront of the scroll wheel is a neat feature is you use it often. Otherwise it is just another programmable button for anything you want.
The tracking lazer is better than what i have had before. So no complaints there. The V400 had a terrible lazer. Although it was marketed as a new lazer system that tracks across all terrrain. I found that it was worse off than what my V200 or MX610 had. I sometimes use the mouse while lazing in hotel beds. The V400 could never do a decent job on linen.
The new frictionless scroll wheel needs some getting used to. But i seem to manage with it. But if you don't like it, you can always revert back to the ratchet system.
As with many other critics, the positioning of the switch between frictionless scrolling and ratchet scrolling is placed under the mouse. It would have been much better if it were placed on top of the mouse for fast access.
So if you can put up with the slightly larger size, this single AA battery powered mouse is a great product. Only pity is that it does not come with a nice neoprene carry bag.
Nonetheless...good job Logitech, you've probably got the best cordless notebook mouse around for now.
Customer Review: OK, but has some minor design issues Summary: 3 Stars
This is going to end up being returned -- for some reason I just can't get the hang of this thing. As explained elsewhere, this is a right-handed mouse pretty much designed for smaller hands - so no overall problem there for me. My hubby tried it and didn't like it at all because of the smaller size so he doesn't want to inherit it.
Tracking is great and it seems to work on all types of surfaces I've tried so far including a chair pad on a bench outside when I brought the notebook out there to sit by the pond. However the off/on button is hard for me to work and the eject button (both buttons are located underneath the mouse) for the receiver is a pain in the kazoo - press, press, press and the receiver still doesn't want to eject when stored. Another minor annoyance is that the off/on button being located underneath means there's no easy-to-see reminder on top of the mouse to remind you to turn the thing off when it's time to shut down. The scroll wheel adjuster is on the bottom also but that's no big deal although it would be nicer to have it more readily available. And, yes, the battery cover is really flimsy.
My main complaint is the location of the back/forward buttons and even with re-programming them, they are still too awkward for me. One button is too far forward and the other button is too far backward. Apparently when this was introduced into the market place, the "nano" receiver wasn't as readily available, so although the receiver is not as large as some, it's still not a "nano" size. Again that's not really a big deal as I am using the receiver on a Belkin 4-port hub, but I am starting to see the benefit of leaving the receiver in place directly plugged into the port.
Not to be petty, but a storage pouch of some sort would have been nice although I knew one was not provided when I bought this. So back it goes as soon as another wireless mouse with a "nano" and a different button placement design I have ordered gets here.
Customer Review: For the price this is not good.... Summary: 2 Stars
Having burned through three standard Microsoft Optical wireless 3000 mice I decided to shell out for something nice with a high res laser and other features... I have to say in almost every way the Microsoft optical mouse (which cost about 1/3 of this mouse) is superior. The feel in the hand, the connectivity, the response time, everything about that product out of the package was perfect. The best feel of any mouse I've touched. The biggest problem with the Microsoft 3000 notebook-optical-wireless is quality of the parts inside. I had two USB recivers just stop working within two months of purchase, so I decided it was time to look elsewhere and unfortunately that led me to this mouse.
The VX Revolution Cordless looks like a high-end piece of equipment, however its performance is absolutely horrible in comparison to what I was getting from its much less expensive Microsoft counterpart. The extra productivity features built into the mouse I found pretty useless, for some this may be its redeeming value. For me, I bought it looking for something with superior feel and excellent performance and in both of those categories I would give this product a grade: D-. For every reviewer praising it, I question their experience with wireless optical mice, because this isn't good. This isn't what you should expect from response time. I've gone through about five wireless-optical mice between my desktop and notebook, I typically use my computer more than eight hours a day so I know what I consider feels good and I certainly know what performance should be. I also know the importance of finding that right mouse when you're hand is going to be on it a good chunck of your day, every day. If you're not easy to frustrate and you don't mind when the nouse just doesn't work sometimes this may be ok for you, it is a very pretty product, it looks like a piece of art. For me, its performance, feel and connectivity have led my decision to return it.
Customer Review: A very well done mouse for use with laptops Summary: 4 Stars
Logitech is doing a very nice job of merging form with function in their line of peripherals. The Logitech VX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks is an extremely well done piece of design. It is small, to facilitate packing needs. But it is not so small that the large handed user will find it difficult to use. In fact, it suits my relatively large hands well.
The VX is very responsive, making navigation of the laptop screen a breeze. It needs little room to operate in and the laser sensor worked fine for me on a dark wood table.
The scroll wheel is multi-purpose, but needs to be set with a switch on the bottom of the unit, which limits its usefulness somewhat, since you can't change scroll modes without turning the unit and fiddling with the mechanical switch, which isn't all that easy to move. The scroll wheel does allow for side-to-side movement, which is very useful for wide documents and smaller, lower resolution displays.
There are special purpose buttons for search, zooming and backwards and forwards screen navigation.
The wireless receiver fits into a recess in the mouse, which is great since it lessens the chance of losing the receiver. Ejecting the receiver from the unit turns it on and inserting the receiver into the mouse turns it off. Nice touches to maximize the life of the single AA cell battery that powers the unit. There is nothing, incidentally, in the sparse instructions to indicate how long the battery might last. At least AA cells are available worldwide.
The physical design is worth special mention. As noted, it fits well into large hands. The sculptured side provides a firm, comfortable grip. For me, all the buttons seem conveniently placed.
Why not five stars? Well, I think the unit is overpriced. And it should come with a carrying case similar to the provided with Logitech's laptop webcams.

Customer Review: better than the microsoft notebook 6000, mouse Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this product for about $[...] (after rebates) from Amazon as a replacement to the Microsoft 6000 notebook mouse, and what can I say... great mouse! After reading about 200 reviews for this mouse I was concerned that it was going to be a waste. Well let me comment on some of the major items that I was concerned about:
1. "Mouse interferes with notebook's wifi card". Instead of installing the included software I DOWNLOADED SETPOINT (v4)from the Logitech website. No issues
2. "Lower that average battery life". I had the mouse for over week, used it a lot, including forgot to turn if off several times and the battery displays at 90% (103days) Assuming a linear negative trend I expect that mouse battery will deplete in approx 3Mo vs the advertised 4Mo. Have to wait and see. Once the battery dies I have plenty off AA Ni-Cd I can use.
3. "Zoom bottom is uncomfortable". Nonsense...great feature. Nevertheless I like Microsoft zoom feature better.
4. "USB transmitter falls off the mouse when stored". Again... more nonsense!
If you properly use the mouse the only way it will fall off is by accidentally pressing the eject button.
5. "Included Software is unstable". (see (1))
6. "Mouse wheel comes off/ rubber breaks..." No issues. I feel the mouse is well manufactured. looks studier than the MS notebook mouse 6000.
7 "Mouse doesn't respond after dropping it". Do I need to say more? As with all electronic equipment treat it with care.
8. "Not good for gaming". In general, you don't want to use a wireless mouse for gaming. With the "game detect" mode on, this mouse was far more superior and accurate than the MS notebook mouse 6000.
Score 4.5
Hope this helps...
***FEB 6, 09 UPDATE!
Still using it and love it!
With regards to battery life, I don't even remember when was the last time I replace the rechargeable battery!
