Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech VX Revolution Ergonomic Design Cordless 2.4 GHz Wireless Laser Mouse for Notebooks/Laptops/PCs with Hyper-Fast Scrolling

Customer Review: After 30 years, an almost perfect mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

Better than any MS mouse. (Better than any Apple mouse, but I guess no Apple people are going to be looking anyway.)

Perfectly fits my hand. Fast. Smooth. Accurate. And using the software, allows me to raise and lower volume and mute. Plus scroll sideways through long spreadsheets.

I suppose I could knock off half a star because the software doesn't allow for specific use of Windows Media Player which for me would have been handy, but for most I'm fairly sure that the combination of specifics tasks that you can make these buttons perform will make this one of the best mice you've ever used.

I haven't had any problems with the wheel, but I haven't dropped or thrown it.

And you can get these for about 40% off.

Keep your eye out for store "open box" sales. I picked up a V450 for $17 because there are still people who can't read the three lines of instruction that comes with these mice. Unfortunately, I let my wife use it, and so I had to buy another through Amazon. And then I thought that that VX looked awfully versatile for my desktop, and so when I was done, I'd spent $115 for a whole nest of mice.

A week later: I would actually give this 4 stars if I could change my rating. Why? Because the scroll wheel in either mode will not scroll one line or two lines at a time except in IE. It scrolls 10 lines at a time in Firefox and most non-MS software. It's annoying, but livable. In some ways the other Logitech mouse I reviewed is better, albeit limited in versatility.

I do wonder when engineers will figure out that not all of us actually like or use Microsoft software.

Customer Review: Good Mouse -- But Something Goofy
Summary: 4 Stars

Overall, I like the mouse...Enough to get three of them to use with my own laptop, my company-issued laptop, and my desktop.

I wish the wheel was a little better. It seems kinda course and clunky, and you have to turn it on its belly to switch from "geared" to smooth operation. The wheel in the VX Nano is better in this respect, since you can simply press on the wheel to switch modes. I have been using a VX Nano on one of the laptops, but I don't like the little receiver and I really don't like the fact that I have to open a removable hatch to store the Nano receiver. (I don't like leaving things stuck into USB ports when I tote the computer around.)

Now for the goofy stuff...

Logitech can't seem to get it straight regarding cases for laptop mice. The fact that a mouse is for a laptop strongly implies that you will be carrying the mouse around, and I want the added protection for the mouse.

The VX Nano comes with a case, but the VX Revolution does not. But more confusing is that the case for the Nano fits the Revolution better than it fits the Nano. Huh? The Nano's case is an asymmetrical design (you can see it in user photos of the Nano here on Amazon), but the Nano has a nearly symmetrical foot print -- so there is "empty" space in the Nano case when an Nano is inside it. But when you put a Revolution in the Nano case, the Nano case fits like a glove.

So it appears that Logitech designed the case for the Revolution, and ships it with the Nano. Go figure. And, unfortunately, I don't think you can by a Nano case for your Revolution -- but that shouldn't be a surprise.

Customer Review: good mouse, bad scroller!
Summary: 3 Stars

I must admit I've been using this mouse for little more than 1 hour. I can tell you that for a notebook mouse this is great. You can specify specifics (such as scroll speed, acceleration, and mouse-macros) per application or gloabally (overall use).

The weight is comfortable, the single AA battery is AWESOME! (use Rechargeable AA Lith-Ion batteries - trust me), and the Zoom is great for Adobe products. The Zoom is also nice for webpages text sizing on Firefox and IE.

Laser is accurate! I've tried it on my woodgrain table - A+, couch - A+, carpet - A+.

My one problem is that the click-wheel is difficult to middle-click and the button behind it ("One-Touch Search" button) is not able to take the place of a middle-click. Whenever I try to middle click I either do not press it hard enough and when I try to correct my pressure it ends up scrolling the document wildly, or if I do it properly it doesnt feel like i've done it properly. That leaves me with a awkward feeling, like when you put your tee-shirt on backward, and you realize it when you're putting the shirt on but you dont correct your behavior and then its on, and you feel like you're in middle school pulling your hands inside of the shirt and wiggling around until the shirt is right then you stretch the shirt to put it on. Thats how I feel after properly middle-clicking with this mouse. -- I've narrowed it down to the Left/Right scroll-wheel tilt.

Also the scroll-wheel is loose when scrolling vertically, so not every "click" on the wheel produces a corresponding reaction.

Customer Review: Great... disappointment
Summary: 1 Stars

I own this mouse for two years now and I don't like it for bunch of reasons:
* Logitech SetPoint is a bloatware (mildly said), the software looks nice, but it is annoying (obtrusive battery warnings, keeps resetting programs list with all button assignments - I don't want separate settings for most of the programs (Outlook, IE), but those come back with every restart. Of course without the software you can only use one side button - the other one doesn't even get registered in Windows.
* If you can deal with the bloat, install SetPoint but definitely get UberOptions, because SetPoint won't allow you to set up many options to your liking - they call it market segmentation, but in fact Logitech driver is crippling your quite expensive mouse.
* Laser tracking is a misunderstanding in this model. It looses track even on fairly good surface like computer desk. This is very disappointing, since my old Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 had much better tracking even though it had half less DPI and less "advanced" sensor.
* MicroGear is nice, but underdeveloped feature - if you turn off scrollwheel "clicking" the mousewheel will slightly turn every once and then when you move your mouse - there could have been some inertial break or something to solve that issue.
* Zoom slider is too hard to zoom in (but okay for zoom out)
Now couple good things:
Mouse feels very well in hand. Rubber sides are much more durable than silicone.
Extremely energy efficient. Runs for months on single AA battery.
Side button placement and tactile feedback is excellent

Customer Review: You get what you pay for...
Summary: 5 Stars

There's an old saying, "you get what you pay for". This cannot be more true than when talking about this Logitech VX Revolution mouse. First, let me say that this is WAY overpriced. Paying $80 for a mouse is RIDICULOUS!

All that said, I still bought one (at a sale price) but still paid too much. However, I cannot be more happy with my purchase. This thing is ridiculously accurate and smooth. I had recently bought a MS Optical 4000 mouse and the Logitech makes it look like cheap imitation. The VX works perfectly at close range with the USB receiver, while some other mice (sorry MS) have to be a certain distance away, which makes no sense on a laptop since you are usually working on a small space or desk. The mouse is very customizable and scrolls very smooth, though the wheel does make a little bit of a noise when scrolling (minor annoyance). The ergonmics of the mouse make it fit your hand perfectly. It glides on my desk like it were on ICE, no hick-ups or skipping like with the MS mouse. Again, I'm super-happy with this purchase. Supposedly has very good battery life as well, but I can't confirm that seeing I've barely owned it a day.

Needless to say, I'm returning the crappy MS mouse. If you have the money and desire, buy this mouse as it may be the last one you ever get.

**UPDATE** - Just to update, battery life is also pretty solid. I purchased this in October and just had to change the batter after the new year, so about 8 weeks or so, on a standard AA battery. Loving this mouse!!
