Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks (Black)Customer Review: This new Portable Mouse is Comfortable, Feature-rich, and Well Designed Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Wow! When I ordered the new Logitech VX Nano portable mouse, I wasn't expecting anything that much more than the one I already had, but was I wrong. This mouse is very comfortable to use, very well designed with well thought out controls, and feature rich.
First off, this mouse fits well under the hand with long left and right buttons that lie under your fingers naturally, the scroll button is so smooth and effortless, there are two fast scroll buttons next to the left button for quick and up and down action, and a feature I really like is a separate button for scroll lock so you don't accidentally go into scroll lock while performing a normal scroll action. The overall ergonomics are fantastic with comfortable, but grippable panels on each side that thumb and small finger gravitate to naturally.
The battery compartment also holds the nano receiver, and the nano receiver is tiny, barely bigger than the USB port male plug. The nano receiver is advertised as something so small that you can plug it into your laptop and leave it there for whenever you use the mouse. This is true, it fits in the back USB port of my Sony laptop and the back panel still closes allowing my to dock without removing the receiver. The mouse itself comes with an on/off button so that the mouse can be deactivated while the nano receiver is plugged in, but the mouse is not in use; this saves on battery and prevents a mouse loose in you carry bag from interacting with the laptop while it is on.
This mouse also comes with an adapter for desktops that can be plugged into the computer and then provides a convenient place to plug in the nano receiver near the keyboard. (This could be handy for some, I don't personally need it, but I can see how some would find it a great addition to the package.
Also included with the VX Nano is a nice zippered mesh carrying case and set of AAA batteries to get you started.
I love this mouse and will be giving my old portable mouse away to a friend soon.
Customer Review: Several things don't work for me Summary: 3 Stars
I needed a good mouse that I carry around when I'm mobile. Since I was frustrated by ProClick bluetooth mouse's often disconnection, I've spent a decent amount of time to research USB receiver one until I found this one. A deal-breaker for me was the center button under the scroll wheel that allows you to switch applications (especially on MacOSX). I wrote '..things don't work for ME' as a title because my opinions could be personal, not 'general'.
PROS:
*Programmable buttons - Logitech did a good job letting users customize the mouse by using of Logitech Control Center. It helps when I do multi-tasking, any fast-paced work such as graphic design&web browsing at the same time.
*Rapid sync - It's almost immediate the mouse and receiver sync. Way much better than my old bluetooth one (ProClick). Once synced, the connection stays very stable and I love it.
*Showing the battery life - Again, ProClick didn't have this feature.
*Compact size, a nice carrying pouch
*Nano receiver - I understand some reviewers complained that it got stuck in their laptop but I wouldn't know until that actually happens.
CONS:
*Scroll Wheel- I didn't quite like the feel of it because it doesn't provide the conventional clicking feel. It just smoothly rolls which enables fast scrolling but also creates unstable manner to the scrollable interface - ex)You touch a little, it shakes the webpage a little up and down.
*Size - Too small! My hands are not gigantic, but not too small either. I really wished this mouse had half inch higher so that I could grab it more comfortably. I recommend anyone to go to a local shop and actually try it before making a buying decision.
*Power Button - It's hard to push to turn the unit on. Now I'm using my finger nail to press the button. One minor thought about power button, though. On the bottom, you'll see a latch in center, might think it's a power button but it's a latch to open the battery case. For couple times I kept opening the lid thinking that I was turning the mouse on.
*** Update (Sep 01/2009)
The scroll wheel just broke out of merely two months of use. My second investment in Logitech mouse and I'm really disappointed now.
Customer Review: The BEST portable USB mouse! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this same mouse since it first came out. I can't say enough good things about it. Now, there are several other mice out in the field that also have "nano" or "micro" transceivers (in fact, I think HP has a receiver that is even smaller) but I think this mouse still stands out for a lot of reasons.
1) It's made by Logitech. Those guys know how to make pointing devices. Plain and simple.
2) I love the style and grip of the mouse. Perhaps the only knock I can give it-and it really doesn't even apply to me- is its overall size vs. large hands. I like the grips on each side and the contour. It doesn't strain my wrist even after a long period of use.
3) Battery life. Since getting this mouse, I've changed the two AAA batteries only TWICE. Folks, that's a long time.
4) The user-configurable forward- and back- page buttons on the left leading edge of the mouse. Very nice to have.
5) It comes with a really neat little zipper pouch made of breathable material.
6) It DOES track rather nicely on just about any surface.
7) They hyperscrolling function of the center wheel. Plus the wheel can switch from ultra-smoot scrolling to the standard scrolling with stops.
8) The nano transceiver can be stored inside the battery compartment underside the mouse. What's neat is there is a little button that quickly ejects the mouse out from storage for your use. But then...I have never put it back in there because I leave it on the laptop at all times and forget about it. It's like the transceiver is part of the laptop.
9) There is a user-definable Search button under the scroll wheel. Again, you only need Logitech's software to change what this button does.
19) It just looks good as a mouse. No funky shapes, colours ,etc.
This mouse is truly plug 'n play. You don't even NEED Logitech's software unless you want to take full advantage of the button configurations and other power user utilities.
Okay, probably the only big knock on this mouse would be its price. I got mine for $30 but that was a long time ago and under specific circumstances. Cost aside, this mouse is totally worth it. Very reliable and easy to set up and use.
Customer Review: VX Nano - size doesn't matter Summary: 4 Stars
I've only received this mouse today, but the Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks has already won me over.
Upon opening the box the first thing you'll notice is how fancy the package is. I know, something perhaps strange to comment on, but I was pleasantly surprised by this. The package itself contains the mouse, two Duracell AAA batteries, CD software, paper manual, carrying case, USB receiver as well as a USB extension cord.
The second thing you'll probably notice is that the mouse is of a very high quality. Logitech has come a long way in terms of quality from where they were ten plus years ago. Now I only expect the best from Logitech, and this mouse seems to hold up to that expectation.
Installation was a SNAP. I simply plugged in the little USB receiver, which is where the mouse gets it's NANO name. The receiver is so tiny that it's almost invisible once plugged into your laptop. Gone are the days of snagging your bulky wireless receiver on something and breaking it. The included batteries also install very easily and are very secure once installed.
I am using Windows 7 Home Premium, and I didn't even have to install the Logitech software to get it to work. Within seconds the USB receiver and mouse were working, including all of the special buttons.
The mouse is VERY precise, which is a great thing. This will be very good for general "mousing", as well as graphic design in Photoshop as well as gaming.
Besides the sideways scrolling, I also really enjoy the scroll wheel itself. With a simple press inward, it changes the way it scrolls. You can go between a very fast scroll, or a slower more precise scroll. The fast scrolling, while quick, is not sloppy. The wheel will spin very quickly and then stop with the slightest touch of your finger. With just a bit of practice you'll be able to use this mode with ease. But if not, you can go back to the way scroll wheels have worked forever.
I cannot thing of anything negative at this point!
Overall I am very pleased and would easily recommend this to anyone. It's a great price and a great high quality mouse.
Now I just need a mouse pad.
Customer Review: A tiny racecar of a mouse - ISSUES RESOLVED! Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The cordless mouse equivalent of a Lotus Elise, this little mouse looks (and costs) the part. Very well designed, it is a joy to look and hold in your hands (once I managed to extract it from the packaging). I have large hands so this mouse is a little awkward for me, but I can still operate the programmable controls well enough and that is the price you pay for portability.
Having experienced issue in the past, I use a 3rd party mouse driver and have yet to have any problems using this mouse on my Mac. But others have so keep that in mind.
The small form factor USB receiver works great and is really the star of the show here. Plug it in and don't give it a second though thereafter. The mouse is as responsive as any I've used and I love the wireless freedom. Battery life is above average - I have yet to change mine. Laptop users rejoice!
Jan.17, '08 update - While I still like the mouse (small, looks cool, and nice scroll features), not all is well in computer land. Some bugs have presented themselves. The optical sensor tends to be inconsistent on the surfaces I use it on, and the mouse goes into sleep mode after a few minutes without use. When you're ready to use it again, it takes 2 minutes to wake up; frustrating if one breaks to take a leak or get coffee. I have yet to find a setting to keep it from doing so. It also sometimes opens files or programs that you didn't intend for it to open. More observations as they come in -- I'm STILL on the first set of batteries.
I would now give it 3 stars if I were able to edit that part of my review.
UPDATE (02/29/2008): I just wanted to let everyone know that I updated the drivers to their latest edition and all of the negative issues I had been addressed. No longer does it go to sleep when innactive for a few minutes and take 2 minutes warm up and start working again. I'm again very happy with the mouse....and STILL on the first set of batteries.
