Customer Review: Worth it just for the one button search alone!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have always been a big fan of Microsoft branded mice; probably because I got used to them early on and never thought about it. Okay, so maybe it was more because I'm one of those people who doesn't like to change things, especially when they aren't broken per se. Why spend money needlessly? I have a nice Microsoft mouse for my laptop, the kind where the ~2 inch USB receiver is secured neatly underneath the mouse when you're done with it. Why change? But one day, I came across a review for the new VX Nano...

When I first read the review on the VX Nano, two things appealed to me immediately. The first was the one click search button. I bet I right-click/copy hundreds of keywords every month to search in Google. By utilizing this single feature, now I just highlight the word(s) and click the button, instantly opening a new window/tab for Google and performing an immediate search. This has saved me so much time!

The second feature that appealed to me was the miniature USB receiver. The USB ports on my laptop are on the right side, about 1-2 inches from the back. The Microsoft receiver sticks out about 2 inches or so from the side, which sometimes causes problems. If I have another USB device to plug in, it is a bit awkward since the ports are so close together. Some of my older USB thumb drives are rather bulky, so I have to either use a USB cable or unplug the Microsoft mouse in order to use them. However, all of these pains were addressed with the tiny receiver Logitech provides with the VX Nano. You can either leave it plugged in all the time, or tuck it away inside the battery compartment. Genius!

The hyper-scroll fly wheel is really remarkable, too; this is something that didn't appeal to me until I started using the mouse. I do wonder how resilient it will be over the years (clicking to switch b/w scroll and hyper mode).

So, my Microsoft mouse is now sitting in a drawer and my VX Nano is endearing me to it more and more every day. It was worth every penny!

One small note on the hyper-scroll clicking: I couldn't get it to work at first. I thought I was pushing the button hard enough, but it would never change modes. Finally, I pushed harder (in a bit of frustration) and there was an actual clicking sound, similar to using a click pen. I was being a bit too cautious and simply wasn't pushing the button hard enough. However, that is the reason for my comment above about the longevity of this button.

Customer Review: Great Mouse, Comparisons to VX Revolution
Summary: 4 Stars

If you can't already tell from all the other reviews, this is a terrific mouse. I'm writing this review to compare it to its "big brother" the Logitech VX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks. These are the two different models I was looking into before I made my purchase. I've used the VX Revolution at work and it's also a great mouse. These are some of the key differences:

- Ergonomics. I prefer the Revolution to the Nano. The drawback to the Revolution is that it is for right-handers only. Overall the Revolution is slightly larger and has a slightly greater curve. I found that to be more comfortable, although the Nano is plenty comfortable too.

- The hyper scrolling feature. On the Nano you just click the scroll wheel to switch from normal to hyper scrolling mode. On the Revolution you have to flip it over and adjust a lever on the bottom. The Nano wins this one hands down.

- Receiver storage. the Nano has a way smaller (cooler, more convenient, etc) receiver, but storage is not quite as easy. The Revolution has a slot on the side. You just push it in and it locks into place. To store the Nano receiver you have to remove the battery cover and store it in a small slot inside. Not a really big deal, but the Revolution's storage is more convenient.

- Batteries. Again the Revolution wins this category. It runs off 1 AA battery, where the Nano takes 2 AAA. Again not a huge deal, but small brownie points for the Revolution.

- Price. Because the Nano is a newer product, I haven't seen it much under $50. Just the other day I saw some Black Friday specials where the Revolution was about $10 after rebates. In general I can find the Revolution for about $10-20 cheaper, although that usually involves a manufacturer's rebate (and my experience with Logitech rebates is that they don't always pays up like they're supposed to).

So having said all that, I'm not saying that the Revolution is necessarily a superior mouse. In fact if I had to do it over again I'd still buy the Nano. For me the hyper scrolling feature is more important than the other minor nuances. Performance-wise both are about the same, so it really comes down to personal preference. Hopefully someday Logitech will combine the best features of the two into a single mouse. Until then, you can't go wrong with either of them.

Customer Review: Great wireless mouse. Works with Windows 7
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been using this mouse for over 2 weeks now and the only thing I don't like about it is the size. It is smaller than a regular mouse. If you have a hand size of a 5 year old child, then you probably won't complain about it. Eventually I got use to the size.

Anyway, I have this mouse for my desktop and it comes with a wire extension to plug your "nano" receiver into. You probably don't need the extension depending on type of PC you use and you can just plug the nano receiver into the USB. So once you put the batteries in (2 Duracell "AAA" batteries are included in the package) and plug the nano receiver into your computer, you will get basic function of your mouse to work. By the way, when you put the batteries in, you will see a slot for your nano receiver. I'm not sure what's it for, but I'm guessing it is to hold your nano receiver when you are transporting your mouse from one location to the next. But the nano receiver is so small that you can just leave it on your computer and never have to worry about it again.

Next, don't use the software CD that came with the package. It is probably not compatible with Windows 7. You should download the latest software version from logitech website, which is compatible with Windows 7. Once you install the software, you can now customize your mouse.

Besides the basic left and right click and the scroll in the middle, the mouse also has 2 buttons next to the left click. The top button is set to move your webpage "forward". Bottom button is set to move your webpage "backward". For example, if you want to go back to the previous webpage you were looking at, all you got to do is click on the down button next to your left click.

Below the scroll is another button. If you push down on this button, you can scroll through all the windows you have currently open.

All these buttons can have a different settings at your own preference. For me, I just left them the way they are.

On the bottom of the mouse, is a power button. If you won't be using the mouse for awhile, you can turn the mouse off. I think the mouse automatically turns off by itself after it is not used for a long time. I don't know how long it will take to shut off by itself, but I notice I have to turn the mouse back on every morning.

Overall, this is an awesome mouse. If it was a bit bigger, it would of been the perfect mouse for me.

Customer Review: Just Great!
Summary: 5 Stars

After owning a Microsoft 4000 Series Notebook Mouse for over a year.. I came up with this great piece of hardware.. Some of my dislikes from the Microsoft Notebook Mouse, was the long/flimsy USB Receiver... Which ended up being kicked or pushed around or tangled with anything.. And also the poor Range of the mouse.. For example if I had my Laptop on a small table on my left and I was laying in bed, I couldn't use the mouse on my right (Meaning My Body in Between the Receiver/Mouse) without issues...

So anyways I was initially going to get the Logitech VX Revolution, which is a really good mouse, but then I saw this one, and the first thing that attracted me was that Tiny Little (Nano) USB Receiver, Which meant already Half of my dislikes with my previous notebook mouse were going to be Solved... The next thing was to give it a Try so I bought it through Amazon..

I couldn't be happier, The mouse feels great in my hands, is very very responsive.. I actually game with it without problems, The Laser is very sensitive, the Range is Great.. It's almost like a bluetooth connection, and the Receiver can be left plugged in my laptop even in an opposite USB Slot, and have no Lag or Response problems...

I trully recommend it for anyone, not only notebook computer users, since it also brings an USB Extension which allows Desktop users to have the receiver plugged in closer to the mouse. It offers PinPoint Laser precision, lots of features, The Scroll Wheel rocks.. If I want to play games I switch to Precise Scrolling for changing weapons, and for web-browsing I switch to FreeSpin mode (Which has me spoiled) :)

This VX Nano also has a nice weight, it's not feather light, and it's not seriously heavy either.. It offers a good balance.

Regarding Battery life, well I've had this mouse for about a Month now, and the battery level is at 85% still...

The SetPoint Logitech software that came with it hasn't given me any problem, and it lets me play with some of the mouse settings.. The only thing that could have been improved was more customizing settings for each of the mouse buttons, since not all of the options are the same for each button.

I am completely satissfied with my purchase, It's better than what I was expecting.

Great Job Logitech ;)

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I just installed the Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse in my notebook computer. The mouse requires two AAA batteries (included) and there is a SetPoint 4.0 CD Installation Disk which you must use if you want to take advantage of the mouse's special features. You need a modicum of technical skills to install the software, which takes approximately ten minutes. The mouse has a very small USB receiver that you insert in your USB port. The receiver may be tucked into a hidden storage compartment when not in use. A cloth pouch is also included to keep your mouse clean when you are on the road.

Logitech is a reputable company and, as expected, the mouse works smoothly. The scroll wheel toggles for quick mode (fast scrolling) or ratchet mode for precision scrolling. The instructions say that the mouse is supposed to scroll from side-to-side, but although I installed the software, so far this feature has not worked for me. In addition if you want to customize the button settings, you can re-assign button tasks.

A special feature is a button that takes you to the Internet to conduct a search. If the software is not installed, then this serves as an Auto-Scroll button. A LED light on the mouse flashes red when the batteries are getting low. There are also two buttons on the left hand side of the mouse which can take you back and forth on Internet pages. Finally, there is an on/off button on the underside of the mouse which you should use to save battery power when you are away from your computer. One minor irritation is that Logitech installs a Yahoo toolbar along with the software which I feel was unnecessary. If I wanted a Yahoo toolbar, I would install it myself.

I have used a variety of portable and cordless mice over the years, and so far, this versatile device seems to work very well. The mouse is small enough to fit nicely in your hand but functional enough to perform all necessary tasks quietly, quickly, and efficiently. Most notebook users would be quite pleased with the Logitech VX Nano mouse.
