Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks (Black)Customer Review: Fantastic Product - Outstanding Value Summary: 5 Stars
The weight is good for it's size - maybe a *tad* on the heavy side. This is a small mouse - it's meant for portability hence the name "Laser Mouse for Notebooks." I've been using a small, corded mouse for quite a while so I'm used to using a mouse this size. People with large hands might think it's uncomfortable - I wouldn't say my hands are "large" but I do have long fingers. It's easier for me to hold a mouse lightly with the tips of my thumb and ring finger and click the buttons with my index and my middle _salute_ finger. I don't rest my entire palm on the top. The slider pads on the bottom allow easy gliding over most "non-grabby" surfaces.
The difference in the pointer movement when using a laser over LED optical (higher resolution - DPI) is amazing. The arrow on-screen moves very smoothly and is easy to control once you get the pointer speed and accel dialed in. The Logitech software doesn't interfere with your touchpad driver settings if you have one - the software specifically notes this during the install which took less than five minutes.
The scroll wheel in free spin mode isn't very useful to me. A quick spin and the bottom of the document comes up fast. It's not very controllable. The loss of the scroll wheel press for third button is taken care of with an extra button just down from the scroll wheel. Left to right scrolling is taken care of by tilting the scroll wheel left or right. The forward/backward buttons on the upper left edge are meant to be pressed with your index finger. The good thing is that they are in a good place to prevent accidental activation but that becomes a downside when you actually want to use them. You have to make a deliberate effort to find the right one by feel with your index finger. The driver settings for optional control is very comprehensive. You can set any button to do just about anything you can imagine!
The taskbar tray icon shows the battery strength in either days of power left or percentage left - very cool! Plus you have the little green LED in the middle, on top, that that lights up for a few seconds when you turn the mouse and glows red if the batteries are low (2 AAA's).
I'm very picky about my hardware and I'm totally impressed and extremely happy with this mouse. Plus, the tiny *nano* "disappering" USB receiver is just plain cool!
BTW, the laser is near infrared. You can -barely- see it in a dark room when looking directly at it (not recommended to do this - eye safety). So you aren't going to be picking this thing up and pointing the bottom towards a wall and expect to get a red dot...
Great product and I'm very satisfied.
Customer Review: Excellent Little Mouse Summary: 5 Stars
After I got my first one and used it for a while, I went out and got two more; one for every computer at home. If you are OK with it being slightly smaller than a regular mouse, this one is probably unbeatable. Now that I'm used to them, I like the smaller mice a lot, actually.
The design, craftsmanship and enginuity are just great. The free-wheeling center wheel is very useful and makes document browsing (web, Word, Excel, Acrobat, etc.) much faster. Press the wheel once and it clicks like a normal mouse, but you won't use that once you've used it in freewheel mode. Button just below the wheel is the third mouse button. The scroll wheel also tilts left and right for scrolling. The sideways tils is weighted very nicely and has a positive feel, so you don't accidently hit it.
Forward and Backward browsing buttons are small, in a good location, and also have a good positive click. I have two other mice that have large "back" and "forward" buttons that I and the kids accidently hit all the time. Not with the VX. Overall, the mouse is solid and comfortable.
The wireless feature works great. Yes, you can have three of them (I'm sure more, but I've tried three) in the same room and right next to each other without interference. The mouse "wakes up" very quickly if it has been left for a long time. For travel, you can push a button on the bottom of the mouse to turn it off. Also, inside the battery compartment is a storage area for the transmitter. The unit turns off when you insert the transmitter for storage, and comes on when you eject the transmitter - nice touches.
Uses 2AA (or was it AAA?) batteries, and the battery life is amazing! You don't need rechargables, you don't need to put it in a cradle. The battery life is well over 100 days in my use. I think it's battery monitor (optinal hardware, like the sideways scroll and other mouse programming) said 177 days. The light up top blinks red when it's time to replace batteries, but you can use it for weeks with the light blinking.
Comes with a nice little bag, but mine has survived very well just being chucked in the laptop case with the charger without any protection.
Logitech got it right. Like most laser mice, it doesn't work on glass. Logitech's newest line does (or so they say, I don't know), so prices are coming down on some of the regular laser mice.
If you want a bigger mouse, maybe check out the VX Revolution or similar. Like I said, I use the VX Nano on my desktops because I'm kinda liking the smaller mouse that fits in my hand instead of curving my hand to fit the mouse.
Customer Review: Actually works well with Mac Summary: 5 Stars
Having just bought the Logitech MX Revolution mouse for my Mac
Pro, I was sort of sceptical about buying the VX Nano for my
Macbook Pro notebook.
I had some very negative issues about Mac support with the Logitech
MX. Many of the functions (including search and advanced scrolling)
would not work on the desktop.
I went ahead anyway and purchased the VX Nano for my Macbook Pro.
When it arrived, I was pleased to find that it was quite compact
and very comfortable in my hand. This didn't look anything like
the cheaply made notebook mice I had used in the past.
Though the box does indicate that this mouse is Mac OS X compliant,
one would not know it by the software provided. As is always the
case with Logitech product, the CD that is provided in the package
only includes Windows drivers. Mac users (who Logitech doesn't like)
have to go through their website to find the Logitech Control Center
installation file.
The best part of this mouse is its tiny USB receiver. What has
been claimed by Logitech is actually true -- you plug it in your
USB port and forget about it. The USB hub becomes almost invisible
after installed. The mouse runs on two "AAA" batteries.
The mouse works wonderfully on my Macbook Pro. I was actually able
to go into the Logitech Control Center and assign it specific search
functions. I press a button and GOOGLE or YAHOO search comes up. I
can also program it if I wish to bring up FINDER.
I found the mouse to be very responsive on an ordinary tabletop
taking away the need to have a mouse pad. The scroll wheel works
extremely well. A simple roll of the wheel can get you from top
to bottom of page in seconds. Also a huge plus is the fact that
this mouse automatically powers itself off when not in use.
The only thing missing here is a travel pouch. For some reason I
had thought one would be included. Despite the fact there was none,
I was able to neatly pack the mouse in my laptop bag.
I have owned a wide array of Logitech products including their
top-of-the line keyboards, webcams and mice. None of them have
worked perfectly with Mac. Logitech is just not a mac-friendly
company. This is the very first product I have bought from them
that actually works perfectly under OS X.
I highly recommend the Logitech VX Nano for anyone that wishes
to ditch their trackpad for the comfort of a mouse.
Customer Review: I like to move it, move it .... Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Logitech says that their products are designed to move you, and this mouse sure lives up to that promise. Seconds after opening the beautifully packaged box, I was up and running and you can do it too. The instructions tell you everything you need to know, from how to put in the batteries (2 x AAA, included), how to turn it on (power button on the bottom), and where to insert the Nano receiver (USB port). For more features, Windows users can install the software included, and Mac users can go get the download.
Installation takes quite a few minutes, but once that's over, your mouse gets super powers, and can scroll from side to side (perfect for those extra wide pages), help you search the internet with the push of a button, and also navigate backwards and forwards between internet pages. How cool is that?
Here's all the OTHER good stuff about the VX Nano:
1. It's cordless
2. It's compact and cute, and oh so ergonomic (at least for small hands)
3. The MicroGear Precision Scroll Wheel (fancy name for the wheel thing between the buttons that you scroll with) has two modes: Hyper-Fast, for when you need to scroll down long documents at warp speed, and Ratchet, for when you don't have a long, long way to run. You switch between them by simply pressing down on the wheel. (Tilting the same wheel left or right gives you the side by side scrolling once you've installed the software)
4. There's a LED light to tell you when your batteries need changing
5. There's a compartment at the bottom of the mouse to store the Nano-receiver securely. Alternately, you can just leave the little thing attached to your notebook USB port.
6. The package includes a nice Logitech zippered case to keep your mouse snug as a bug in a rug.
7. You can use it on your desktop machine too. It comes with an "extension cord" that you plug into the USB port of your CPU, and insert the Nano-receiver into the little gizmo at the other end, and you're all set. I didn't even have to evict the regular mouse that was already living on my mouse pad.
Believe me, after you've gone Nano you'll never want to go back to cords again.

Customer Review: Very innovative but could be better. Summary: 4 Stars
I have several Logitech mice / trackballs and I wanted this mouse primarily for the nano receiver. I know that sounds silly, but as someone else pointed out, if you use your laptop in bed at night, any protrusions from the usb are likely to break if the laptop is not sitting on a pedestal of some sort. The Nano receiver avoids this. I have been harping on the Logitech forum for months now for them to release this receiver for all their products, or even offer it as an upgrade to which customers can choose to buy a nano receiver for say their MX or VX Revolution, MX600, MX610/620 LX7 etc.
The mouse itself is sleek and maybe a little too small for long term use. I've been using mine for a few hours continuously today and my finger is getting fatigued (mainly from using the scroll wheel and the back/forward buttons with my left hand). This fatigue never happens with my MX600 or MX610 even though I tend to use them left handed even though they are made as right handed (I adapted well!!!). The Revolution still fatigues me, but still not as much as this does. The micro gear scroll wheel is a nice touch but it is missing the lever switch to swap back and forth from click to click to free scrolling. You have to do a hard press on the wheel itself which as other have said on VX Revolution reviews (yes you can change scrolling methods this way as well on a Revolution) by doing the hard click, it feels like you're going to break the mouse.
My other gripe is you can't use just 1 battery like on other Logitech mice that normally take 2 batteries, but will still function with only one. Not sure why Logitech went out of their way to make sure it won't work like this, but they did, and boo on them for it! Another gripe with the battery is the Revolution uses segmented LEDS which upon power on/off these bars light up showing you how much battery life you have left, not so with the Nano! Sure you can install the Setpoint 4.0 software and have to double click the icon to bring up the software; then click the battery icon; then decide a display for "% left or days left" and then get a useless number of how much battery life is left (mine shows up as LOW and yet says 43 days left which I know is a lie).
The back/forward buttons are in an awkward place no matter if you use it left or right handed. The side mounted buttons on the 600; 610 or 620 are at the perfect spot and they could have rounded out the side on this Nano to incorporate it there, but they didn't.
