Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks (Black)Customer Review: Best Notebook Mouse I've Used Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This VX Nano Laser Mouse works quite well. The mouse itself is a mid-size mouse and not "Nano" itself, which makes it more user friendly. It also has rubberized side grips which aid in its handling. Included with the mouse is a connection receiver for a desktop, a nice bonus. I use this for my Toshiba laptop for which it is perfect. It has a small receiver that you can plug into your USB port and leave it there, even when transporting the computer. If you wish you could remove the receiver and it store it out of the way and safe inside the mouse itself; the engineers paid attention to details on this one. Two standard AAA batteries power the mouse and it has an on/off switch that I am hoping will extend the life of the batteries. The batteries lasted me only four months. But the batteries were included! The mouse also comes with a nice carry bag to protect it while in your case for transportation, or to just keep it free of dust when not in use.
It was very easy to install and works great right out of the box. The hardest part about installation is getting the mouse itself out of the packaging. I found the tracking and scrolling perfect. At a press of a button you can go from scroll to hyper-scroll on the mouse wheel. Plus I found the mouse speed was perfect for my use as delivered. I have limited mobility and was able to use this easily. And it seems that the mouse does not need direct line of site to the receiver in order to work. It works well without a mouse pad, which was very important to me since I had to test it in bed. I had the computer on the hospital table and the mouse on the bed. The next day I downloaded the software that it comes with and it allows use to increase the utility of the mouse by giving you access to advanced features. I found the additional functionality to be very helpful. Including Internet search at a push of a button. I also appreciate the battery indicator for the mouse, so you do not have to guess when your batteries should be replaced. My computer gains access to the Internet by WiFi and may be the reason it took several minutes for me to download the software. But you only need to do this once, and only if you wish to use the advanced features of your mouse.
This is the standard high quality Logitech mouse technology we have become use too. This has now become my permanent laptop mouse and my sister saw it and is buying one for her laptop. I am really pleased to have this mouse, it makes using my laptop so much easier and therefore enjoyable. Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Very nice mouse that meets my wireless desires Summary: 4 Stars
I have owned and used this mouse for the past 10 months. Overall, it is a very nice mouse.
First, let me mention the things that I like about the mouse.
1. It is built very well.
2. The scroll wheel feels very solid.
3. The accuracy of the laser is very exact.
4. The ergonomic design of the mouse is very comfortable in the hand.
5. The receiver truly is very small. I leave it plugged in all the time on my laptop.
6. It comes with a nice travel bag for the mouse.
7. The battery life is outstanding. I use it at least 5 days a week for 9 hours a day and have changed the batteries once in 10 months.
10. The Logitech software is very easy to use and allowed me to make some needed adjustments, such as turning down the pointer speed.
11. It really was just plug and play after installing the software. I had no issues with it and compatibility with Windows Vista Ultimate.
Now for a couple of negatives.
1. It is a little smaller than I would like. I realize it is a "travel mouse", but I use it every day. I have fairly large hands though. As a reference point for you to check, my hand is about 8 inches from my wrist to the tip of my middle finger.
2. It is a little pricey and a few more bucks than I would have liked to spend.
3. Occasionally, it does not register clicks. I believe this to be a slight design flaw. I will hear the clicking noise, but if my finger is sitting too far back on the button, it won't register.
Lastly, I will point out that I have no use for the One-Touch Search button or the Left Scroll and Right Scroll buttons, so I cannot properly judge those. I have used them and they work, but that's all I can say. I will point out that you can assign different functions to the buttons though. Maybe I'll make the "One-Touch Search" middle button something more useful like "Mute" so that I can quickly quiet my music when the boss comes by! There are a few options for this.
However, I use the Forward and Back buttons constantly and they work well. If you've never navigated a web page using the forward and back buttons on your mouse, try it! It will open a whole new way of doing things for you and is so much more efficient than going up to the forward and back browser buttons. I used to use a Microsoft mouse with the Forward and Back buttons in positions to be used by the thumb, so it took some time getting used to these buttons' positions, but it's second nature to me now.
Overall, it's a very nice product and I'm impressed by Logitech. I would have given it 4.5 stars if I could have. I highly recommend this mouse if you're looking for a wireless mouse.
Customer Review: Very good mouse but those with Large hands may want to pause Summary: 4 Stars
I got the VX Nano today and have been using it all day. The receiver is awesome, exactly as advertised. It protrudes a bit I had not issues putting laptop into the bag or removing it multiple times throughout the day. This may seem like a small advantage but I have the VX Revolution as well, Logitech VX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks, and sometimes the receiver was not completely put back into the hole in the mouse and it would fall to the bottom of the bag and I would end up having to empty the front pocket to find it. The freedom to take the mouse out of the bag and use it without thinking about or fiddling with the receiver was actually liberating. The accuracy of the mouse is excellent. At 800 dpi the precision for a notebook mouse is fantastic and will be great for the average user though those that have used a G5 or similar gaming mouse with 2000 dpi may notice a slight difference. The scroll button works well though it isn't as smooth switching between normal scroll and hyper scroll as the VX and MX Revolution mice because there is a slight catch. One complaint I have is that the forward and back buttons are not placed in thumbs reach as with VX Revolution and the MX revolution. Instead they are positioned within reach of the index finger (for righties) and it is not an easy reach, in fact it is a little cumbersome. The overall look of the mouse is sleek and elegant as we have come to expect from Logitech products. It is an ambidextrious design so it will work well for lefties or righties. The overall design is great for the normal user. The mouse is comfortable, well balanced, grips in the right locations and as noted the accuracy is excellent. You feel in complete control as you should with a good mouse. In my large hands however the mouse doesn't fit nearly as well as the VX Revolution does. I suspect that the VX Revolution fits better in my hands because it has a slightly larger form factor and because it is designed for a right handed user and thus size and contour fit my hand perfectly. Overall this is an excellent notebook mouse. I would rate it a 5 if it fit my hand better, the forward and back buttons were better positioned and if I had never used the VX Revolution. For me the dream mouse would be a VX Revolution with a nub receiver just like the VX Nano, that would be a 5 out of 5. Hopefully Logitech is listening.
Summary:
Pros: Receiver (plug in and forget it), accuracy, small form factor, features, feel (for small/normal hand size)
Cons: Forward/Back button placement, feel (for those with large hands), cost (69.99)
Customer Review: A vast improvement over my current laptop mouse... Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This weekend I received a new toy to play with... a Logitech VX Nano cordless laser USB mouse. I was excited to give this a try, as I'm tired of working around the cord on my existing laptop mouse. With the minor exception of packaging and the software CD, I give this a hearty thumbs-up.
I already use a Logitech VX Revolution mouse on my desktop computer. Without exception, it's the best mouse I've ever worked with. The VX Nano follows in the same footsteps as its bigger sibling, only in a smaller package. The sides of the mouse are rubberized and indented for better grip, and it's highly comfortable for me during extended use. People with bigger hands might like a slightly larger mouse, but my smaller hands didn't mind it at all. The scrolling wheel has the same smooth/ratchet option as the VX Revolution, so I can switch back and forth between those modes without a second thought. The USB key that goes in the laptop port is extra-tiny, so there's little chance of getting it knocked off by accident. There's even a small area in the battery housing that you can use to store the USB key for extended periods away from the laptop. Nice feature, as you don't want to be misplacing it... The battery life according to the configuration screen says that it has 170 days of power on a fresh pair of AAA batteries. Time will tell if that's accurate or not, but I'd be VERY happy with that type of battery life.
The only two drawbacks had nothing to do with the mouse itself. My laptop kept thinking the CD with the software was blank, and I couldn't load from it. That was easily remedied by going to the Logitech site and downloading the latest version of the software from there. Also, the packaging could be better. It takes forever to get the mouse out of the box and plastic. At first, I was a bit disappointed that they shipped without batteries, but then discovered (right as I was throwing the box away) that there was a storage bag, USB desktop adapter, AND batteries stashed away in part of the package that was completely surrounded by cardboard. I can imagine that I wouldn't be the only person who would make the mistake of throwing away more than the box it came in...
My prior laptop mouse is now stashed in the back of my desk, hopefully never to reappear. The VX Nano is perfect for working on my laptop, and I look forward to far less skipping and cord hassles than I had with my optical mouse...
Customer Review: Great mouse but... Summary: 3 Stars
The tiny USB receiver is one of the key features that make this mouse stand out. I've always been wary of USB receivers because they seem to be in a precarious position of being snapped off. Probably taking out the USB port and potentially motherboard. The Nano receiver is hardly noticeable in the port which only sticks out less than a quarter inch. You don't even have to remove it, if you don't want to.
The scroll wheel can switch between freewheeling and precise modes. As you press down on the scroll wheel, you will feel a click which is the wheel engaging and disengaging. When it freewheels there is no friction on the wheel at all which allows you to scroll through huge documents in no time. If you choose more precise control, just toggle the scroll wheel and the wheel will have a ratcheting feel.
For many, this is will be the perfect notebook mouse but for me, it's a great mouse that is missing a critical feature. Since the Logitech chose to use the scroll wheel to toggle between scroll modes, the scroll wheel button was sacrificed. The scroll wheel button is a very handy feature that makes the mouse act like a three button mouse. I have 3 programs which take advantage of the extra "button" and they are ones that I use the most.
Sketchup is a free 3D sketching app from Google. The scroll wheel button is used to facilitate navigating in the environment. When pressed and held, you can orbit the object with the mouse without losing the drawing tool. Where a "normal" mouse would require you to constantly select the orbit tool to inspect the object then switch back to a drawing tool. Other 3D programs also use this feature.
Firefox uses the scroll wheel to click on links and open it in a new tab. This speeds up web surfing considerably. For example, if I'm looking through CNN, instead of jumping to the link and having to go back each time, I can just click with the scroll wheel and new tabs will open for those links. So, as I'm looking through the first page the others are loading. When I'm done with the first page, I just select the tabs that are already loaded.
Terminal is a command line utility for the Mac. The scroll wheel in conjunction with the left button is used to select a string of text and paste it. If you use any kind of CLI you will appreciate this feature in saving time typing.
I've given it 3 stars because the VX Nano didn't meet my needs but if you don't have these things to consider, I could give this mouse over 4 stars. I did end up returning it but I'm hoping that Logitech will come out with another wireless mouse that has a small USB receiver and scroll wheel button.
