Customer Review: Can't get mouse to fully work on my laptop
Summary: 5 Stars

(I initially gave this 5 stars, then came back a few weeks later to edit this post but cannot change the number of stars. I now give it 1 star).

I have been using this mouse for a few weeks now on a Vista-running HP dv9500t. Initial recognition via bluetooth was difficult, but I think that was mostly due to trying to get the laptop-end of the communication to work. After a little troubleshooting, I turned off the automatic passkey requirement, and it instantly recognized the mouse. However, after about a month of use, my stopped fully recognizing the mouse. It partially recognizes it (I know this is strange, and I can't explain it). It can only serve up basic mouse functions. The "programmable" features aren't available. I can no longer adjust pointer speed. It seems that the Logitech SetPoint software won't let me adjust any settings (the "my mouse" tab is missing). Logitech tech support wasn't much help, only saying that there is a compatibility problem between the bluetooth drivers in my laptop and the setpoint software, but they couldn't fix the problem. The mouse and all of it's features worked fine for a few weeks when I first purchased. I've tried everything - reinstalling drivers, updating drivers, "restore" rollback, reinstalling SetPoint software. None of these have worked. Rather than spending a dozen more hours troubleshooting, I'm giving up and buying a Non-bluetooth mouse.

During the first few weeks when the mouse was working, I found that the mouse pointer was a little jumpy, but it only jumped after it was at rest for several seconds. I think it's due to some power-saving feature where it places itself in a rest mode. Movement awakens it, but after a small delay. I would say this "jump" is best detailed approximately as a 1/5th-second sluggish delay, followed by a jump to a position it predicts it would be at if there were no delay, equating to a distance of about 1/8-1/2 of the display width, depending on speed. It didn't bother me too much, since I don't do detailed CAD or image-editing.

Customer Review: A decent and reliable travel mouse
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this mouse about three years ago with my new MacBook. Took it everywhere my the computer went too, right in the cramped travel bag with everything else. After three years of wear and tear, it's sitting next to me right now, still a very functional piece of hardware. With that said, I think I've got a pretty good handle on all of the pros and cons of this particular mouse.
Getting right to the point, let's start with he positives. It's easy to use if you know anything about setting up bluetooth devices with your computer, and there's no need to waste another USB port because it's straight bluetooth, which is a huge advantage to someone who lives on a laptop. The battery life is decent, a few months of constant use, at least, and the light on top starts warning you when you've only got a few days left. It helps that it has a few feature to keep the waste down, shutting off automatically when left in disuse, having an easy to access on/off switch, ETC. The scrolling and general sensitivity has a good rate.
On the downside, though, the construction feels a little cheap. The three years of service this mouse has proves that it's certainly not something fragile, though, despite feeling like it's made of discarded water bottles. The little layer of grip rubber around the sides has also peeled away over time to nothing, making the sides of my particular mouse just more of the cheesy plastic. It takes a few seconds to connect again whenever it's disconnected, which is generally not more than a minor inconvenience, but it's still worth mention. Also, it does have a strange occasional want to just fly to the top of the screen for no apparent reason, a little frustrating when playing a game involving the mouse, but otherwise just another mild irritant.
All-in-all, it's a good mouse. Not great, but simple and functional. Maybe not worth $40 in this day and age (luckily mine was a gift), but certainly worth every penny if you can find it for, say, $25 anywhere.

Customer Review: Nice looking, but two pesky problems makes it unusable
Summary: 2 Stars

The mouse is very nice looking and small. Everything I needed.
Unfortunately it has two problems that makes it unusable (at least for me):
1. After you don't move it for 1-2 seconds (yes, only 1-2 seconds), I believe the mouse goes in power sleep mode. When you move it back, it takes from 1/2 second to 1 whole second for the pointer to respond. This create frustration when you use it...

2. The mouse pointer movements are not smooth. I believe it's a problem with interference with other radio sources of the computer. I'm using a Macbook (aluminum unibody), with an Apple bluetooth keyboard, and using 802.11. Under this configuration the mouse pointer jumps a lot. No smooth movements. I remember I have used it with the wireless turned off, and I have the feeling it's a little better, but not perfect.

If you are looking for this mouse as an alternative to the Apple wireless mouse, don't fall from it. Steer clear from it.
If you want a cheap mouse that let you do the job (with frustration), well... probably this will work for you.

An update to my review:
After some time of using it, I don't think anymore this mouse is that bad. About the problems reported above:
1) about the 'sleeping time': after a while you'll get used to it and it doesn't bother you anymore. On the other hand, the big advantage of this feature is that it saves a lot of energy. I haven't changed the batteries in a long time and the mouse still works fine. Per comparison, I had another logitech wireless mouse (non bluetooth) that was draining batteries every 2-3 months (and was NOT working with rechargeable batteries)...

2) I haven't seen those interference problems on my Macbook anymore. It must have been some other devices I had around at that time...
So, conclusion: not as bad as I thought. If I can change my rate, I would raise it to ****

Customer Review: Sucks batteries, and bluetooth is not ready for primetime
Summary: 2 Stars

There are two problems with this mouse: one with the mouse, and one with bluetooth in the Windows environment. Outside of these two problems its a great mouse but they are enough for me to abandon this mouse for a better product.

First, this mouse goes through batteries MUCH faster than any other mouse I have ever owned - unacceptably fast. And in an attempt to save money/the environment/whatever, I tried rechargeable batteries only to find they drained even faster than alkaline batteries. Its really really annoying to have to change the mouse batteries every week or so. Battery life: one star.

The second issue is only peripherally about this mouse - its a bluetooth mouse, so it relies (in my environment) on a Windows bluetooth stack. Between my wife and kids we have four Windows-based computers (three XP and one Win7). Bluetooth has been unreliable on all of them - and not just with mice. Problem #1 is that Windows forgets about the mouse and it has to be reconnected. Problem #2 is that the bluetooth stack sometimes doesn't come up at all. Problem #3 is that it comes up really late and the mouse is not working for a long time. I give the various Windows bluetooth stacks (including the Toshiba one used by many OEMs) ONE really black star. Because I have to keep reinstalling the mouse, I give ease of installation 2 stars - easy enough to install but I have to do it over and over and over again.

I had bought two of these models and one older Logitech BT mouse (which by the way did not consume batteries as fast as this one). I have been replacing them with Logitech V450 Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for PC and Mac which never seems to need a battery change, is completely reliable, and uses the very unobtrusive Nano USB dongle to connect. I give that product an unreserved 5 stars.

Customer Review: My First Logitech Disappointment
Summary: 1 Stars

I have a long history with Logitech products, and the mouse I reverted to after returning the V470 is a Logitech mouse (and I have a whole new appreciation for it).

Here's my experience with the V470:

- The installer took a LONG time (it's a mouse....what's taking so long? A new bluetooth stack?). Logitech product install is usually much faster.

- The installer failed to find the mouse twice, then succeeded on the third attempt. When it finally did acquire the mouse the connection stayed solid.

- The response is terrible and annoying. The mouse sleeps after about two seconds. If you move your hand off the mouse to do something quick (like press ENTER), that's long enough for it to sleep. When you move it after two seconds the cursor jumps around for a second or so before it completely wakes up (this is a common complaint with the V470 if you Google around a bit). For the few hours I used it I would regularly click the wrong link on a web page or start the wrong application in the start menu because of this jumpiness.

- Even when the mouse is awake it feels VERY rough and inaccurate. Selecting text is annoying enough that you notice it every single time. I don't think I could get used to it.

- The decision to return it was locked when I plugged in my old mouse and it was *SO* liquid smooth and totally responsive. If you gently push the V470 across your mouse pad, the cursor's movement is very rough and stuttery. My old mouse (just a Cordless Optical) behaves totally smoothly under very fast or very slow movement.

I had purchased the V470 because I didn't want to deal with the Cordless Optical's dongle, but after this experience I'll be sticking with the old mouse. I don't know if this is a V470 issue or a Bluetooth mouse issue in general, but this was a HUGE disappointment.
