Customer Review: Warranty honored
Summary: 4 Stars

The mouse worked well, and paired easily with my Vista 64 laptop. It comes with Logitech's SetPoint software, but the mouse works fine without installing it if you are worried about software bloat slowing down your computer. The only need for installing the software would be if you want to do some non-standard mappings of the mouse buttons/wheel.
After using the mouse for a little over a year I had opportunity to put Logitech's warranty to the test recently, so here was my experience. My mouse died, and I went through the usual troubleshooting--replaced batteries, made sure the batteries worked in another device, made sure my computer's bluetooth could pair with other bluetooth devices. I discovered that I had lost my manual, so I went to look for one on the Logitech support web site. Couldn't find it. Sent an email to support asking where I could find it. They didn't tell me, but did open an incident and started asking a bunch of questions that I'd already answered in the original email. So I went through 2 weeks of back-and-forth emails with them trouble-shooting the problem. They finally decided it was just dead, but said they would replace it under warranty. My original hard-copy receipt had gone the way of the missing manual, so another week of back-and-forth ensued. They would only accept a .jpg or .pdf scan of the receipt so forwarding the email receipt wasn't acceptable. But when I scanned that email receipt and sent them a .jpg image of it, that was fine. A month after my first inquiry, I received a brand new mouse as replacement. End result: Support was a pain and not particularly helpful, but if you're willing to be patient and jump through all their hoops, they will honor their warranty.
I also have the Microsoft 5000 bluetooth mouse, so can give you some product comparison (although I haven't had the opportunity to put MS support to the test). The Logitech mouse is larger than the MS, although still smaller than a standard mouse, so if you like a larger mouse that might push you to the Logitech. The larger size also allows the Logitech to use AA batteries versus the MS's AAA batteries. This gives the Logitech longer between changing the batteries, although I haven't done specific metrics to give you hard numbers on the difference. For the most part, ease of use and functionality are the same. The MS has an additional side button for those who think having more buttons is better on a mouse. All-in-all, given a choice between the two I'd just buy whichever is cheaper.

Customer Review: What you'd expect from Logitech- a good, competent mouse
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm beginning to think I should invest in Logitech. I now own a Logitech remote, portable ipod speakers, and now this. My previous mouse was also a Logitech, which I loved. There were two reasons I decided on upgrading to a bluetooth mouse. One, as a Macbook owner, I've come to expect a lack of USB ports (my notebook only includes two), so I wanted to free one USB up. Second, I thought the idea of "shortcuts" for mouse commands was handy.

Upon using this mouse for a week, I am comfortable with it as a permanent replacement for my old USB model. The first thing I was pleasantly surprised with is the color. For whatever reason, the picture on Amazon paints it as an ugly turquoise. The mouse I received is more of a medium blue. I guess if I held it up to a really bright light, it might look more like the product image, but it looks better than the pics.

Once you install the packaged CD, you'll have access to the Logitech Control Center (from the Settings icon on Macs). Here you'll be able to map specific command shortcuts to the scroll wheel, a left/right tilt, and a middle click on the mouse. This is my favorite feature. I was able to assign a zoom out to the left tilt and a zoom in to the right tilt of this gadget. This works wonderfully when surfing the web; I only wish it worked for other Mac apps (for example, it will not zoom emails on Mac Mail).

Performance and battery life are very good with a caveat. Probably not Logitech's fault, but I'm still not 100% sold on Bluetooth's wonky responsiveness. For example, if you leave your mouse still for a few seconds, and then move it, you'll notice that the cursor "skips" for a second as it picks up the bluetooth signal. I also had an instance where my computer was in sleep mode, but when I started to use it, my cursor was permanently jittery as I moved my mouse (a reboot solved this). Note that once you keep your mouse moving, it will precisely move where you want it to without any skipping.

Despite the slight laggy responsiveness of the cursor (which goes with the Bluetooth territory), I recommend this mouse for users that want a full wireless experience. However, if you don't mind the usage of one of your computer's USB ports, it's probably not worth it to switch technologies; and you'll avoid the bluetooth lagginess described above.

Customer Review: Wonderful tool for the mobile user
Summary: 5 Stars

The UMPC and ultra-light computer form factors are becoming increasingly popular. These small computers, however, often have only only one or two USB ports and USB mice also require dongles in that precious port.

Bluetooth to the rescue! Bluetooth allows short-range wireless connections.

The Logitech V470 is one of the few Bluetooth laser mice for laptops available. As far as I am concerned, it is the best.

The form factor is just right for my large hands. It is not as small as the otherwise capable Stowaway Bluetooth mouse - and not as large as the Logitech desktop mouse. The V470 is about 60% of the size of regular mouse.

The V470 runs on 2 AAA batteries, better I think than the rechargeable lithium-ion batteries found in some other mice. You can get AAA batteries anywhere, which is not the case with an AC outlet and the several hours needed to recharge a lithium-ion battery. Logitech doesn't provide estimates of battery life, but from experience with other devices, I suspect it is substantial. There is an on-off switch provided.

The V470 is laser equipped and is capable of working on a wide variety of services without stuttering or skipping. I have tried it on laminate countertops and wooden tabletops without problems. Of course, on a laser mousepad, performance is superb. Travellers and beach bums will appreciate the fact that the V470 works very well when just traversed on a pants clad leg. (As any traveller can attest, such capability can be invaluable at times.)

The Logitech mouse software works well. Just be sure you have the latest version.

Setup on a contemporary Bluetooth equipped computer could not be simpler. Set up a new Bluetooth device on the computer. Turn on the mouse, click the connect button and you should have a connection within a few seconds. No password entry is required. The mouse works fine with the default Windows settings. The Logitech software adds a few features.

The V470 comes with a cheap fabric carrying pouch. For the money, I think they could have provided a molded hard case.

Overall, a terrific little mouse for mobile use. Everyone who carries a computer with them needs this device.

Customer Review: Functional and a Solid Choice - Scrolling a Little Chunkier ...
Summary: 4 Stars

I actually had to buy two Bluetooth mouses/mice so it's a good comparison between this one and the Kensington Wireless Wireless Notebook Mouse.

This Logitech mouse is a lightweight mouse - even with the two AA batteries included amd installed.

Setup for a Mac could not be easier. Simply launch the BLUETOOTH SETUP in SYSTEM PREFERENCES. Click on mouse and setup and then at the appropriate time (with mouse on) click on DISCOVER underneath the mouse and the blue light will start flashing - your Mac setup should read something like DISCOVERING. Once it's paired, you are set.

Then go to the bottom of SYSTEM PREFERENCES and select the Logitech SYS PREF Controller APP. There seem to a lot of choices for configuring - frankly, a little too much - I did not really bother than adjusting the speed of the scroll wheel.

That is the one area that falls a little short in comparison to the Kensington. It scrolls a little chunkier and not quite as smooth. The Kensington also features a built-in web browser turbo scroller which may be available in the Logitech but is not auto setup - so more work is required there.

Both mice have a side hand rest area that fearures synthetic rubber - the Logitech is thinner with less material and no bevel.

The Kensington mouse is a more solid looking and more substantial feel but the Logitech is a nice optional choice depending on your wants and needs - as this mouse is lighter and is functionally fine. It's slightly less fancy and scrolls slightly slower but it is less costlier and slightly smaller and weighs less.

It's not as if the difference is night and day ... sort of like closing the door on a Mercedes versus a VW ... both fine cars, one slightly moreso (and a little costlier) so the bottom line is that personally I like the Kensington better. It's more substantial feeling, it scrolls seemingly smoother and the turbo web scrolling is great.

The Logitech is lighter and smaller with slightly chunkier scrolling and there may be other features there that match the Kensington, I don't really want to fiddle with mouse controls - have enough to do with my day - prefer plug and use :-) but still a very nice mouse.

Customer Review: Excellent Mac mouse, but probably smaller than you think...
Summary: 4 Stars

My Bluetooth Mighty Mouse just died (track ball got stuck and there was no way to repair it), so I went on the search for a replacement mouse and came across this little jewel, which I ordered immediately. I've had excellent experience with Logitech in the past, and this product has been no exception.

Key, salient points:
1. Quality build and feel. Just like you've always come to expect from Logitech...
2. Outstanding engineering (for instance, the way that the battery compartment is designed and accessed is logical and fool-proof -- this may seem like a little nit, but it is indicative of the thought put into the design of the mouse). Button pushes have great audible and tactile feedback.
3. Excellent support for Mac - software is well conceived, and uses a native Mac approach and sensibility. Runs fine under OS X Leopard (10.5.2).
4. Excellent ergonomics. The folks at Logitech "get it", and the mouse feels immediately good "in the hand" and very intuitive. Apple could use a lesson or two from Logitech on how minimalism AND ergonomics can work together when it comes to devices like mice.
5. Great styling. Perfect and complimentary fit for my Aluminum 24" iMac.
6. Thankfully minimalist device. I didn't want a gazillion buttons on the mouse; just basic mouse functionality without any surprises. This mouse has two buttons, a scroll-wheel, and three-position scroll-wheel button functionality, and that is it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

And, this brings me to my four-stars-out-of-five rating. While the mouse is everything as promised, what isn't mentioned (at least to the extent that it should be) is that this is a SMALL mouse. I have bear paws for hands and the mouse is small for these hands. Perhaps and additional 1/2" in length and 1/4" in height would make a difference? The mouse is still very usable, and feels great, but I can imagine my hand getting cramped over very long mousing sessions due to the physically small stature of the device.

So, caveat emptor for those with very large hands. Else, you'll really enjoy this beautiful mouse with your Mac.
