Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech V320 Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks- Grey

Customer Review: Decent, But Look At The M505
Summary: 3 Stars

The Logitech V320 is one of a mind numbing selection of notebook mice from Logitech. The cordless V320 is marketed just a notch above their least expensive cordless notebook mouse. I originally purchased the V320 for my laptop on a whim and it's been ok, but I quickly replaced it with a VX Nano mouse from Logitech.

PROS:
- Decent value
- Good tracking @ 1000dpi
- Solid left and right mouse buttons
- Smooth scroll wheel
- Fantastic warranty

CONS:
- Outdated
- Middling battery life
- Lacks thumb button
- Optical, not laser

The V320 was only my 2nd notebook mouse ever. In the past, I didn't quite get why you'd want a small, unergonomic mouse to use for your laptop. What is the track pad for on a laptop? Eventually, I saw how it could be helpful if you happen to have your laptop semi-permanently set on a desk or for travel. I replaced a wired notebook mouse by Logitech with the V320 and won't go back to a wired version again.

COMFORT
For a notebook mouse, it's about as comfortable as you're going to get. The VX Nano is better, but even the price premium does not net you a great deal of increased comfort. The rubber sides make it easy to grip and the left and right buttons are easy to use. The scroll wheel works smoothly.

PERFORMANCE
The 1000 dpi optical sensor works well. Unfortunately, when I took it on vacation, I found out that optical, as well as laser, are unusable on any type of glass surface. My hotel room had a glass top on the desk, which made using the mouse impossible. I had to use a newspaper as a mousepad for the duration of my stay.

WIRELESS
The mini receiver is smaller than the old school receivers but certainly larger than nano receivers. It stores easily inside the bottom of the mouse. Inserting it or removing it automatically turn the mouse on and off. I had no problem with range or interference with other devices.

BATTERY LIFE
Compared to most new mice on the market, the battery life on the V320 is subpar. It is rated at 6 months but I'm positive it doesn't last that long. I can't give a firm figure because I don't use it all the time so it's hard to gauge. I can say for certain though, it didn't last 6 months for me. The bummer here is that it takes 2 AAA batteries. AA batteries are more convenient and have more power. In fact, all of Logitech's current cordless mice use AA batteries now.

SUMMARY
When the V320 was released, it was a solid choice for a notebook mouse. Despite this, I could not stand the lack of a thumb button so I hesitantly upgraded to the VX Nano, that not only upgraded the number of buttons, but also the scroll wheel, ergonomics, receiver, battery life, and came with a travel case. But the #1 reason not to buy the V320 today is the fact that it is outdated. Newer, better mice are available for about the same price as what Amazon is currently selling the V320 for. The current Logitech Cordless M505 notebook mouse has a unifying nano receiver, more than double the battery life, and laser tracking. There is absolutely no reason to buy the V320 over the M505 right now.
