This isn't a bad microphone for the price. It's USB, which makes installation a snap. You just plug it into an empty USB port. There is no software to install. Then you follow the instructions to test it out.
If you have any problems, make sure you go to:
Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Audio and click the Audio tab. Once there, check under the "Sound Recording Tab" and make sure your new microphone is set as the Default sound recording device. (Should be the AK5370)
What I like with this Microphone is you don't have to put your lips next to it to get crisp sound. You can set it far back and record, just simply turn your volume up a little the farther you sit back from it.

I recently bought a good pair of headphones for music and games, but missed the microphone of my old headset. I settled on a desktop microphone, and I'm impressed with this one's quality. I've used it for chatting over Skype and nobody has had trouble hearing me or complained about an echo from my speakers getting picked up. I've even used it as a make shift baby monitor when coupled with my phone. It picks up the entire room in the direction it's pointed. I also use it without trouble to voice chat over Steam while I play games online. I haven't had any problems with people being unable to hear me clearly.
I generally keep it from 1-2 feet from my face, and it's been perfectly compatible and easy to set up in Windows 7 64bit.

It's a decent microphone. I thought that getting a USP-microphone would be a better choice than the standard audio jack variety; but as is true with so many things that seem simple enough, trying to get it to work with Vista is an unnecessary difficulty. Installation for Vista is absent from the simple instructions in the booklet, leading me to believe that this microphone pre-dates it. Nonetheless, I forced my computer to accept the device by deactivating its own, inferior, built-in microphone. It works now; but I use it primarily with language-learning software so I have very little comment on the quality of its recordings. For the purpose of the language software, it is a great improvement over the built-in microphone.Customer Review: great for skype

I've had this microphone over a year now and it's been great. No problems at all.
I use it over skype, so that's my frame of reference and evaulation.
Everyone on the other end has said the sound is perfectly clear. I can keep the microphone off to the side, at least a bit. This is very important to me as my primary use these days is to practice Spanish in a language-exchange. It would be very awkward if the microphone had to be right in front of me, between me and the keyboard, as I'm often typing furiously frantically looking up words in an on-line English/Spanish dictionary.
I'm thinking of ordering a 2nd one for my wife's laptop for when she talks to her sisters across the country.

Several reviews stated that this mic didnt work with Windows Vista. Its important to make sure Windows is fully updated before installation of the mic. I did that and the mic installed & works perfectly. Be sure to read all the reviews. Do yourself a favor & research companies & prices since several companies offer this item & prices vary. Its unfortunate such inexpensive items require such pricey shipping charges. But they just dont offer these mics in stores. I havent had an opportunity to use this for recording but for voice chats it is sufficient. I purchased this mic brand new as a gift but would certainly buy another one for myself. Id avoid any refurbished items for future reference. I hope this helps.
