Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech USB Desktop Microphone (Black/Silver)Customer Review: Logitech USB Desktop Microphone Summary: 4 Stars
I just wanted a basic microphone to use with Ventrillo to be able to talk to my in-game buddies. This is the first mic I have ever bought. I didn't want to get anything too expensive since its primary use is for chatting. Very easy to install. Just plug it into the USB port and you are ready to go. My friends say my voice is crystal clear. I also like that I don't have to be really near the mic to be heard. My only complaint is that sometimes I echo to my friends. I'm sure that is because I'm not using headphones and it is picking up my speaker sounds. It is not bothersome enough for me to switch to a headset which I didn't want to do. I spend long hours on the game and cringe at the thought of wearing headphones for that long. Great little starter mic to use with chat especially for the price. I even bought a second one for my husband's desktop. I've had it for a little over a year now and it is still going strong. I've never had a problem with it. Great buy.
Customer Review: Works naturally and wonderfully with Dragon Naturally Speaking Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this Logitech USB specifically to go with my Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 10. Although the software came with a headset and microphone, I found the headset to be uncomfortable, poorly built and unnecessary. When I am dictating with Dragon NaturallySpeaking, I am not listening. I simply needed a convenient microphone. The Logitech has an on and off button that is lighted, easy to access, and I use that to turn the microphone on or off. It can be positioned in any position forward or backward, and seems to do an extraordinarily good job of recording my voice. Once I had trained Dragon NaturallySpeaking, this using the headphones supplied with the software, I had no issues converting directly to the microphone from Logitech. I simply hitch the microphone to the USB port, it was immediately recognized in Windows Vista, and I began using it in perfect compatibility with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Highly recommended for this purpose.
Customer Review: Doesn't work at all for gaming Summary: 2 Stars
I wanted a microphone for use with gaming while using speakers instead of a headset/mic combo because I don't like the feel of headsets. I picked up two of these microphones due to favorable reviews but the mic just doesn't work very well for gaming. My voice doesn't get picked up unless I have the microphone practically in my mouth, and my voice comes out choppy (with a few seconds of silent time stutter) and it's overly loud with a large amount of air/puffiness noise. I've been adjusting and readjusting this mic (moving it away from speakers, trying it with earphones so no feedback, varying push to talk vs. manual on/off, etc) as well as adjusting my voice software for over a year now and just had to go back to headsets because this mic is so crappy and I can't speak for longer than 5 seconds at a time without transmit problems. A $25 Logitech headset that plugs directly into my soundcard worked fabulously.
No more USB mics for me
Customer Review: Works Great With Vista and Speech Recognition! Summary: 5 Stars
I had some trepidation because of the few reviews that said this was not compatible with Vista. But there were also a few that said it worked with Vista, so I took the plunge...
It does, in fact, work fine with Vista. It's USB, does not come with a CD, nor is one required. Installation and use couldn't be easier.
I went into the Control Panel and configured it through the "Sound" icon. After, I saw an icon for Speech Recognition and decided to see what it was about. I had not played with this before, but I took the tutorial (which also trains the computer for your voice) and I was pretty impressed with all you can do with voice alone! For the record, this has been the most fun I've had with Vista (I'm not a huge Vista fan, imagine that)...
I am looking forward to using this for real-time chat and making audio sound clips, and would highly recommend this mic to anyone.
Customer Review: Quick test Summary: 5 Stars
This USB mic has decent noise cancelation & high sensitivity. If you don't want a mic that you need to have sitting 5" infront of you, this Logitech works great. I keep it behind my monitor so there's no wire tangle & it picks up my voice with no problem and I can speak softer than normal.
The only downside is that it is a USB mic. So if you wanted to connect it directly with a higher end sound card... well I don't think you can. But if you have a higher end sound card, I'd think about getting a higher end microphone to match. Also, it comes with instructions, but as most people throw them away, there may be just a touch of difficulty getting it to work with some audio applications.
I bought this mic to replace my junky Plantronics .Audio Desktop Mic. I would also highly recommend this microphone over the Koss M-18.
