I've had one of these for over 3 years, and I love the thing. So much, in fact, that I just bought a second one for work. Working with a mouse all day was making my wrist a little sore... a day with the Trackman and it feels better already.
Logitech got this one right - the shape fits absolutely perfectly in my hand, and my fingers fall right over the buttons, resting in the little scallops thoughtfully provided. With Logitech's mouse-management software, I can dial-in speed and acceleration to give precision for computer drafting, yet scoot all the way across the screen diagonally if moved agressively. Definitely reliable - the 3-year-old one works as well as the one I bought today. Some competing products (i.e. Microsoft) provide extra buttons, but I've found that 1) I rarely use extra buttons anyway and 2) extra buttons almost invariably interfere with the ones I use all the time. I didn't even consider the cordless version; it's not like I'm going to walk around the room while using the computer, so to me their need for batteries is a failure waiting to happen.
In short, everything you need, and nothing you don't, in a very well thought-out package.
I tried the Microsoft equivalent and returned it immediately in favor of the second Trackman. It wasn't as comfortable, the controls weren't so intuitively located, and the additional buttons were merely in the way.
If you're right-handed (unfortunately, no lefty version is available) and want a trackball, in my opinion this one can't be beat.

Ok, there's an optional star rating called "Not Working", what does that mean, exactly? If I give it 5 stars, does that mean the product doesn't work and doesn't work really well? What?
Anyway, I love this thing. I've purchased at least 5 or 6, including 2 wireless ones. The latest one I bought for my roommate who loves using it in part because he has neuropathy in both his hands and wrists, but it doesn't affect his thumb or his forefinger/middle finger, so this works great for him.
For me I just think once you get used to it, it's faster than a normal mouse. Just a quick twitch of the thumb instead of having to move your entire arm/wrist/hand. I've proven time and again at LAN parties that it gives me a noticeable edge. I'm not that great at FPS games, but against those at my level, it definitely makes a difference. I've tried switching to a normal mouse using Razer Diamondbacks and Copperheads, but neither really work as well for me.
You do have to pop out the ball and clean the 3 tiny rollers inside (use a needle or paperclip or pen head), once in a while, as dust collects in there. The rollerballs are definitely more sensitive to grease/oil too. If you eat at your computer a lot, this might not be for you. With a normal mouse you can move it with your whole hand, so a little grease/oil won't stop you, but trying to push the rollerball around smoothly with grease/oil on your thumb is tricky. Not a big deal for me since I'm careful about that sort of thing and I wash regularly.

I was a little leery of this trackball because of some of the negative reviews, so I wanted to share my experiences.
This is my first "ergo" mouse. I have used industrial input devices for various job duties, but I've never used any consumer devices for my cube or home office. I actually intended to comparison shop at the local big-box store, but they don't have any demo items anymore. I was not impressed when I left, but then found a lot of good reviews here on Amazon.
My main concern was adopting the new style of handling. This thing seems extremely foreign when you first get your hands on it. I've used it for a little more than half a day now. I do a big mix of Outlook, Word, Excel, Visual Basic Programming, IE/Firefox (web apps), VNC, etc. I was very impressed!
I run WinXP. I increased my mouse speed so that I could travel across the entire monitor in one motion. I also adjusted the mouse orientation. (This sets the rotation of "up" with respect to the WinXP desktop. This feature is pre-installed on my Dell laptop, but you may need to install the Logitech mouse driver for this.)
I'm happy to report that I was able to "hit the ground running" with this trackball. I've also found that I tend to "roll" the ball to quickly skip from one desktop to another. That's a much faster way to jump from one monitor to another.
I don't have any experience to compare this with any other trackballs, but I highly recommend this over a standard optical mouse!
Customer Review: Very cheap made and very ordinary, only form unusual

Not sure why sellers asking such big price on this trackball - it really costs like $15 and even less for make. It is made from the cheapest possible materials. I have purchased it for $20-25 year ago.
I'm really disappointed with quality of buttons in this mouse - never thought that Logitech will start to use such awful cheap button modules like Kensington does (my previous was Kensington mouse) in this mouse (Logitech using better buttons only in much more expensive mouses) - after year of use the left one button which is most important starts to making two clicks simultaneously...
The wheel-button here is also the cheapest possible which you can find on any chinese $1-5 mouse - it's clanky, loud and impossible to use for precise moving pages. Better ones wheel-buttons Logitech as usual use only in much more expensive models.
The problem with trackball here - it can be used only as ordinary mouse movements - i mean fast movements - it's good for games, but for example - draw with this mouse is impossible as hell - especially impossible working in Photoshop - very cheap and bad optical sensor or i think the problem is in very big dots on the ball - it can handle fast movements, but precise movements - no-no. And Logitech could do here a very good trackball if would use here a much better optical sensor and smaller dots on the ball. Even Apple multitouch trackpad is 2-3- times better in handle precise movements than this trackball - which is in fact an ordinary cheap mouse.

- The Logitech TrackMan may take some getting used to for those who have never used a trackball mouse before. Stick with it through the adjustment period and you will likely grow to love it.
- The Logitech TrackMan may help reduce wrist and arm pain that some people experience from daily use of "regular" mice, since the trackball design stabilizes the hand. I bought a TrackMan for my mom for this reason. Since she started using it a few months ago, her nagging wrist and elbow pain has disappeared.
In case you are debating between the cordless and corded TrackMan versions, here's a little more info about the cordless version:
- When the batteries run down on the cordless TrackMan, the mouse stops working with little to no notice.
- The cordless Trackman seems to prone to breakage for no apparent reason. I went through three (3) of them, each of which abruptly stopped working within three (3) months of purchase. I finally switched to the corded version (Logitech Trackman Wheel Optical), which has actually held up well for me so far. Its design is exactly the same as the cordless version, and it's about half the price. Mom is still happy with hers, too.
