Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System with Subwoofer

Customer Review: Not convenient for laptop users
Summary: 1 Stars

The sound from my laptop was inadequate, especially for listening to voice recordings and dvds, so I needed amplification. The S220 was rated highly so after a little comparison shopping, I ordered it but was very disappointed and will be sending it back.
- 1 - The very thin "Installation" guide comes in no less than 20 languages on each small page, meaning there are very few understandable words of explanation regardless of the language a customer might speak.
- 2 - The illustrations in the guide are of a desktop computer only, do not show the entire product, and give no hint as to how to use with a laptop. (I had to read a review on Amazon to figure that out.)
- 3 - The product is cumbersome for mobile laptop use, with lots of cords dangling. If you never move your laptop from your large, clean desk, this might be right for you but if you'd like sound in more than one location in your home or apartment, there has to be an easier alternative.
- 4 - This negative review is not intended as a reflection on the sound quality or usability with a desktop computer. If Logitech had put just a little more effort into clear communication (e.g., product description, optimum uses, and installation), customers could select the right product to meet their need and avoid lots of frustration.

Customer Review: These are great for your small LCD TV
Summary: 5 Stars

Like other reviewers I bought the Logitech S220 Speaker System for my new 24" LCD HD TV. It has a great HD picture but a weak speaker system. This it as perfect mini speaker system with a sub woofer and all for around $23.00. I simply plugged the headphone cord from the speaker system in to the headphone jack on the back of the TV. If by chance your TV does not have a headphone jack simply buy a (2 x RCS male / 1 x3.5mm Stereo Y cable 6" jack) for a couple of dollars then plug the headphone connection from the speakers in to the single jack on the cable and then plug the 2 RDA jacks in to the RCS speaker connections on your TV. Then plug in the sub woofer and be ready to be amazed. The sound is great for music from my Satellite TV service with XM stations and for HD TV moves and all TV program as well. There is an inline volume control for the speakers and a bass knob on the sub woofer and once you set these the TV remote controls the volume as normal. So search out your best deal on the small LCD HD TV and don't worry about the sound quality of the small built in speakers and add the Logitech S220 Speaker System. You will love the difference they makeLogitech S220 2.1 Speaker System (Black)

Customer Review: One more guy saying these are great speakers
Summary: 5 Stars

Like the title says, these are great speakers given their absurdly low price. Like most multimedia speakers, the Logitech S220 2.1 speakers are a little on the tinny side and miss a lot of richness that one may expect from some truly hi-fi speakers. I would have raved more about these had I not found the Altec Lansing BXR1220 2.0 Speaker System. Although the Logitechs provide good power for the money, they do not perform as well across the spectrum of frequencies that the Altec Lansings do and so the Altec Lansings sound better, albeit the Altecs can't get as loud.

I have had these Logitechs for about a year and they still perform well and sound good enough for MP3 music. They hold up nicely, fill a medium sized room (18' x 18' or 6 meter x 6 meter) with ease (for normal listening), and have a fairly convenient volume knob. Although I think a system where the volume knob is not inline with the tweeters and had an easier on/off switch would be much better. All told, you can't go wrong with the Logitech S220 2.1 speakers for $30.00, but you can do better in terms of sound quality with the Altec Lansing BXR1220 2.0 speakers if you do not have huge volume requirements.

Customer Review: Sound system for kids computer - check!
Summary: 4 Stars

I have an older computer setup in a spare room for the kids (also doubles as my PVR). I needed some kind of sound system for their learning software and video games, so I found this relatively inexpensive set of powered speakers. The wires were plenty long to reach everywhere I needed them to go, and the sound quality is actually pretty good - the subwoofer provides a little extra bass, enough that I've actually had to tell them to turn the volume down because it was interfering with a show that we were watching in the TV room (next room over). My only complaint is with the volume control, and it's pretty minor. The little black circular component is the volume control (also mic input and headphone jack), and I don't think it's the best design. My kids have figured it out, but I think you'd have to explain it to someone who hasn't seen it before. The other thing is that there is a tiny (and I do mean tiny) switch to turn off the power to the speakers. I know most people leave these on all the time, but I like to kill the power when it's not in use. I worry that this may eventually break or otherwise malfunction, but I guess we'll see. Overall, for the money, this is an excellent value and the quality (so far) has exceeded my expectations.

Customer Review: Will need to be rewired
Summary: 3 Stars

Well, as many others have stated these are basic speakers with average sound and you get what you pay for. But that's all I wanted. A cheap set of speaker to pair with a cheap (Acer) HD monitor to make a HDTV for my exercise room (at less than 50% of the price of an HDTV).

HOWEVER, my speakers arrived mis-wired. The satellite pod (who thinks of these things!) is a disaster. First, I have no need for the sound card cables but they're are hard wired in. All I needed as a 3.5mm jack to input the signal from by HD Cable TV box RCA outputs via a RCA to 3.5mm converted. The pod has a 'mic' input, so I plug in - NOTHING! After checking everything I could think of, including that the RCA outputs were live when I was using the HDMI output to my monitor (they were), I was about to give out and send the unit back as DOA. But first I plug the OUTPUT of my cable box into the 'headphone' OUTPUT on the satellite pod. AND THERE WAS SOUND! But obviously the plug did not sit correctly in the pod.

So, I'll be keeping the unit and, when time and motivation permit, cutting some wires and patching things together correctly. If YOU like to tinker and rewired - BUY THIS PRODUCT. If you want something that works out of the box - KEEP LOOKING!
