Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System with SubwooferCustomer Review: If 30 dollars is all you are willing to spend, then get these. Summary: 3 Stars
I understand that you get what you pay for, but the overwhelming number of positive reviews was misleading. In my opinion, the reviews with two and three stars are the ones worth reading if you have more than 30 bucks to spend. I'm sure they are great for basic computer use, or a minimal upgrade over built-in tv or monitor speakers. But, if you can afford to spend more money, then you should. If you spend a lot of time in front of the computer listening to music or watching movies, you definitely should.
My set of speakers appear to function as intended, but I am very disappointed with the sound quality. The subwoofer is muddy and does not blend convincingly with the stereo speakers. Vocals are flat and lifeless. There is no stage separation or imagery you get with good speakers. They will not fill your room with beautiful sound. They are not comparable in the slightest to studio monitors, as one reviewer suggested.
One of my computers has a set of 25 dollar off-brand computer speakers with a 15 year old JBL computer subwoofer I bought for 5 dollars at a yard sale. That set up blows this 2.1 system away.
I'll either return these or use them in the garage with an old mp3 player. I'm still looking for something to use at my main computer.
The bottom line is that these are an acceptable set of 27 dollar speakers, no more or no less.
Customer Review: S220 Rock for Sound and Value! Summary: 5 Stars
So you're looking for some new speakers for a cheap price, well I got three words for you, BUY THESE SPEAKERS! They are well worth the money. I got them and plug them in right away and I was amazed by the sound they produced. I didn't even realize my songs sounded so good. They give great sound for the price range, they fit great on a desk, and they have quite cool features. They have a little control panel that has an on/off switch, volume control, and inputs for both a mic and headphones. There fairly easy to set up too, just plug the power in, plug the speakers into the sub, then plug the sub into your computer. 3 easy steps! Also, for you benefit, their are newer Logitech speakers Logitech LS21 2.1 Stereo Speaker System, but let me assure you that the S220s are better speakers. The LS21's total peak power is 14w even though they are bigger, yet for almost the same price, you could get these older S220's for a total peak power of 34w and small designs for easier placement. You tell me which one sounds better? Clearly the S220s. Let me end saying that I'm full satisfied with these and I know you would be too. =D
Pros
34w peak!
Control panel
Impressive Bass
Sleek design

Cons
None
And there you have it, these are amazing speakers. =D
Customer Review: Excellent deal to add "thump" to your sound. Summary: 5 Stars
At the time I'm writing this, i've been playing various electronic songs which really test to see how good a sub is. It's exceptional. For the size of these speakers and sub, plus the price, this set is an instant winner unless you are unfortunate enough to get a dud set.
Here's the layout.
Anything that has a headphone port (mp3 player, boombox, and a computer) is plugged into the subwoofer with the green plug. The sub is plugged into a power outlet. The speakers are connected to the sub. You control the volume, plus turn the system on and off, with the little disk-like thing in the picture that also has a headphone and microphone jack. So you don't even need an auxiliary cord as far as i can tell.
I have yet to use it on a tv. Mine is an old sanyo that I can't see this system connecting to. Seeing as there are no headphone jacks or really any output jacks that fit the sub's plugs, I'll have to get creative and see if i can use adapters to make it work.
Still, I have a load of respect for these speakers being so good yet incredibly cheap. Someone listening to this system thumping loader than their boombox will ask you for the price, and be wonderfully awed when you tell them it's just below 30 dollars. Have I mentioned that it's rather easy to move around? I already love this system and i'm sure you can get away with buying a separate set for everything.
Customer Review: Impressive Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this unit to compliment a small LCD tv for when working out on our exercise equipment. The sound system is minimal expense, as is the tv, dvd, weight machine, and treadmill. The treadmill is louder than I would prefer and over-whelms the speakers on the tv, thus the reason for the Logitech S220 sound system. For the money the Logitech S220 does a good job: I can hear over the treadmill noise, though not by as comfortable a margin as I would prefer. If the Logitech S220 were used with a computer, or a tv in a small area, it would probably do an admirable job. If you expect it to overcome noise then it may be insufficient for the task, and in all fairness, more than it was built for. It is, after-all, a very inexpensive system.
The sound is good. The bass performs well. The remote is convenient (microphone/headphone/volume/power). The price is exceptional, as is the value!
Am I happy with it? Yes.
Should I have spent $25 more on a bit more power? Probably. (Remember, I am trying to overcome a noisy treadmill.)
Might it do a good job in an otherwise relatively quiet room? Yes, I think it most definately could.
All in all, an impressive system for the money.
* I am seriously considering saving a few dollars to buy another Logitech S220 system for my computer! *
*** Maybe even one for the tv in the bedroom!!! ***
Customer Review: Above average Summary: 3 Stars
I bought these for my brother for Christmas and I haven't had to live with them so this is just a first impression. The bass seems adequate but the other speakers are weak at best. The volume control is separate and though it is easy to use I can't help but think that it would have been better to put the volume control on the right speaker where it traditionally is so you don't have to grope around looking for the thing at night when the family is trying to sleep. The on off switch is definitely a major downfall. It feels cheap and is very tiny. These do give gaming a definite boost, adding a good deal of punch to gunfire and other battlefield noise that you just can't get with a two unit system. However, if you like your music to sound great and full when at loud volume these just don't cut it. The ones I bought for myself Logitech Speaker System Z323 with Subwoofer are easily 3 times better, and are only a $5 more than twice the price. The bass on these can shake my room and the speakers themselves are robust and they sound amazing.
In sum, these are good but Logitech Speaker System Z323 with Subwoofer is better. By a lot.
