Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System with Subwoofer

Customer Review: Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System...
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered these bad boys on the 20th of December with standard shipping and they got here in 4 days.

I was happy.

But when I opened the box I was a little skeptical. It looked nice but the speakers were so small, I was sure it was made cheaply.

I finally decided to set it up though because my old speakers were old and annoying, so I gave them to my brother. I must say that even though the speakers are small, they don't fall over when you bump music loudly (and boy does it go loudly).

The small size is actually convenient compared to the big subwoofer that came with my Dell computer.

Anyway, I'm very, very happy with this purchase. Some of these average reviews had me a little scared but I still ordered these and would have it no other way.

Definitely worth the 34.43 paid for them (I had about a buck and some odd credit left).

4.25 stars.

end note: I almost forgot to say that I *love* the little dial you use for turning the volume up. You can also put headphones into it to listen to your music privately (but it's not half as intense and it only plays mono, or in one ear).

Update: 1/13/09 - One of the speakers likes to go in and out with sound because it has a shortage. I don't mistreat this sound system one bit. I'm thinking it may have been bought like this. But I'll just put up with it. Everything that was true that I've said about these speakers is still true.

Customer Review: Better Than Nothing
Summary: 3 Stars

I recently refurbished an old computer and needed speakers, these were cheap and had relatively good reviews so I thought "Why not?" and bought them. They are tremendously easy to use (just plug into the 3.5mm headphone or speaker jack) and the controller is nice to have on your desktop to control volume. While they do not have an amazing sound, they are good for the average listener. Music and movies sound great. One big problem I am having is the headphone jack on the controller, made so you could plug your headphones straight into that so you don't have to continually switch out the speakers with headphones. I love the idea of it (I almost bought a splitter so I could do this anyway and was really pleased to see it on the item) but the sound quality coming from it is horrid. There is a lot of static and it is WAY too loud.

PRO:
- Easy to use
- Good price
- Relatively good quality

CON:
- Headphone jack on controller has TERRIBLE sound quality
- Speaker wires are not very long

Overall it is a good product but these few drawbacks (especially the headphone jack as I am in a dorm and cannot have my music blaring all the time) is a big reason why I would recommended this product cautiously. If you are just using it for speakers and never want to use headphones or if you have another headphone jack on the computer it is a good product; if, like me, you have only 1 port, I would recommended you look elsewhere.

Customer Review: perfection!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love amazon because of the reviews which I read religiously before a purchase. I acquired these speakers although there were several less than perfect reviews. I have a much larger pair of logitech speakers so I rolled the dice without much concern.

I must first disclose that these speakers are for an asus laptop which have very low sound. The product was here so quickly that I had to check the account to remember when I ordered them. I opened the packaging and the first thing I noticed was there is more than enough cord to maneuver across your desk. I plugged in the speakers, opened the windows media and played a couple of songs. This is on a desk that is 18 inches from my face and these things are loud. I played three songs from bohemian rhapsody to jagged little pill and so far it is a grand purchase. (especially for the price) The range of all 3 is just as good as my 150 dollar logitech speakers, the only difference is I cannot blow out the neighbors windows with the S220's.

There is a nifty little volume control with headset plug ins that are small enough to fit under the laptop stand and remain hidden. The size of the speakers and woofer are perfect for the desk.

The base seemed to be a concern to some in the reviews but allow me to say this. If you use it like I am on the computer desk, its enough to make my keyboard shake a little and feel the vibrations throughout the desk.

Customer Review: Good for the $
Summary: 4 Stars

These are good budget speakers. Bought them for light home office use to replace some Creative Speakers that failed after 18months of ownership. I have a Polk monitors as my home theater speakers.

I couldn't stand these speakers at first, and almost threw them back in the box. I still might, I'll give them another day or two.

Biggest problem with these speakers is that there is almost no stereo image. This effect is more obvious with lower bitrates. The effect created is close, but better than wearing cheap headphones. The bass is the only thing that seems to tie it all together.

Highs seem a little too crisp and sharp, often sounding tinny or just more clear than the mids and lows.
Mids are a little muddy, or they just seem that way because the highs are so sharp.
Lows / Bass is not very powerful, but it is present.

These speakers fail the "listening to a male voice" test. . . It just doesn't sound natural.

That being said these are a great deal for someone who isn't picky. Also, they are doing a good job of sound reproduction as I can hear the difference between a FLAC and 128kbps mp3 easily. These tend to do well at jazz and classical music. If you like metal, rap, or pop you are going to want something else.

At the end of the day for the price, you can't beat these. Will your music sound better if you spend more? Sure.

Customer Review: Great sound, perfect for casual use

Logitech Speakers S220 2.1 / B000RQSGYO

My last speakers needed replacing when we upgraded monitors - the old speakers had come as a set with the monitor and pulled power from it, and the new monitor did not provide a matching jack to do the same. I use my computer speakers for listening to music and playing games and didn't want to shell out a fortune for replacement speakers.

These speakers are extremely nice. The subwoofer sits under the desk and can be adjusted with an attached knob. The two speakers sit on the desk above, framing the monitor, and the sound control (the little round gizmo in the picture) sits on the desk nearby. The sound control can be easily adjusted with a simple turn, holds a jack for a microphone and another for headphones, and sports an on/off switch for the system. I thought it would be difficult to adjust to using the sound control (instead of reaching forward to turn a knob on the speakers directly), but that hasn't been the case. It's not the design that I probably would have made for myself (the control can slide off onto the floor if you don't position it carefully), but it's a good system for the price.

As for the hardware, the system pulls power from a regular wall plug, and hooks into the computer's audio ports. It's definitely "plug and play", or at least was for my near-decade-old machine - just plug in and go.
