Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System with Subwoofer

Customer Review: Terrible
Summary: 1 Stars

The volume is barely audible, even with everything turned on full blast. I bought these based on positive reviews. Maybe they sent another pair of speakers to all the 5 star reviewers. Mine are crap. Sure they're inexpensive, but my last pair of speakers were in the same price range and had such a full, rich and loud sound that it lead me to stop using my fairly expensive stereo system. Those speakers had a sound that would've cost thousands of dollars 30 years ago. I cannot say the same for these Logitechs.

Of all the advantages of buying things online, the main disadvantage I suppose is not being able to really test them out prior to purchase. And after purchase, returns of online merchandise are problematic to say the least. At this price throwing these away is probably a better choice than going through the headache of returning them to Amazon for probably half the price I paid for them.

Edit April 21, 2010:

Well, I bought the Logitech Z313 and I love it. First I went to Best Buy and tested the sound, then I ordered it here (altogether about $10 cheaper). Anyway, for an extra $17 the Z313 gives you a rich, deep and powerful sound, good enough to act as a stereo system. Let's face it, sites like YouTube have thousands of songs at the fingertips. Even though I may have the same music on CD, those CD's are gathering dust. It's much simpler simply to go to the Internet to listen to music. But that only works with a nice set of speakers. So do yourself a favor, spend a little more and get something better than this S220.

Customer Review: All I'm saying is . . .
Summary: 3 Stars

Never hire a sound engineer who tells you that these speakers compare, "at low volume," to his $1000.00 monitor speakers. That is as dishonest as it is ridiculous. Really.

That said, these speakers have no mid-range. I don't usually even notice mid-range, but now I really, really miss it. These speakers remind me of that time I saw a drunken bum inexplicably put a small kitten that he found in the alley into a 50 gallon steel drum, a solid, good steel drum over which he cooked his canned tuna and ranch-style beans the night before.

Thinking, "hmm, what's that guy doing with that kitten?" all of a sudden the drunken brute broke into a whiskey-fueld frenzy and started beating the side of the drum with a section of pipe he carried around for protection. "Marla! Marla!" he screamed as the kitten shreiked in terror and I stood fear-frozen 50 feet away, cowering behind an older model Mazda that had been booted the week before but had been there for a while. Boom-boom-boom and kitty shreiks. No mid-range.

But the speakers were just $30.00 and if you listen to crap like Taylor Swift or, you know, Lynrd Skynrd, then who cares, right? If you cared how your music sounded, then you'd care what you listened to. So, if you're a tool (or poor like the bum in my story), buy these speakers. Otherwise, do your research; do not trust popular opinion; and spend the extra money to get some good speakers.

In the end, I'm not sure what happened to the kitty, but I'm pretty sure it's deaf if not dead by now.

i was sceptical about all the good reviews of this product.. and.. i thought i mite be mildly impressed... but after 4 days.. update.. 4 months later. amazing.. i bought another one for a xmas present.. those 17 watts are impressive the woofer is rocking/vibrating the furniture around me.. and.. the sounds drift up to all levels of the mansion i'm staying in.. the highs are extra high.. the lows are very low.. and the mid range is very nice.. i have owned lots of speakers and never could i imagine i could do all this out of a lil pair of 30 dollar speakers.. just plug the green cord into your lap top headphone plug.. and sit back and be amazed... the wired remote volume swivel dial is a nice touch to keep you in just the right sound volume you want at the moment. i got the extention cord.. for an extra few feet.. but when i tried using that.. it made one speaker cut in and out.. not enough power or something.. so. i dont use it. but the woofer can be put at your foot and just reach down and turn it up or down if you want to tweak the highs.. just turn the dial on the remote. hard to explain but the learning curve is fast with this set up. and its got loud enough sound.. i can go out on the deck and listen to music from my lap top. your media player will sound great.. or you can do. A O L radio.. all channels sound good. every once in a while you will find something that is over based.. and you can durn the woofer down a lil. most the time you will leave it on full speed. great for most YOU TUBE music.

Customer Review: Great set of speakers
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok. So here's the deal: I needed a cheap set of speakers for the few times I want to listen to music while at my computer (normally, I just use headphones). After checking out a list of options on Amazon, I found that this set had the most positive reviews out of anything else out there (in the price range). The reviews were so positive that I thought, "Is this too good to be true?" Well, I gave it a whirl and ordered them.

One word: Wow.

For the price, and the size, I'm a believer. These things rock. They have a separate woofer that fits under my desk, (yes, that's right, a woofer that is small/thin enough to finally fit under my desk, that right there is worth a couple stars!!)

I love that the power, speaker volume and headset jack are included separate from the speakers. It allows me to place the small speakers right next to my 24" monitor and the volume control within reach by my mouse. For my setup, it's way better than if the volume control were on the speakers themselves. It's given me much more flexibility with my set up.

And of course, what about the sound? For me, totally worth it. I replaced a set of Dell speakers that kept making popping noises, and these speakers were just as good (if not better) than my old speakers (and were a fraction of the price!)

If you're looking for a small set of speakers with a price to match - these sound good and produce enough volume to get a 5-star rating from me! Thanks to all of the Amazon reviewers who steered me in the right direction!

Customer Review: Logitech raises the bar real high with the S220 speaker system
Summary: 5 Stars

I waited to purchase the Logitech S220 speaker system until it was on sale and I had a monitor with no speakers, what a mistake. All the positive reviews I read were on target, I'm still trying to figure out the negative ones. I rated this speaker system is a solid 4.7 and it could have easily been rated 5, The bass is not set and forget for me so ease of use and comfort lost a star because of the bass control knob. The desk control unit for on/off, volume, headphone and mic is a great feature for this system. I can't think of a more over the top purchase of equal value stature except my Koss PortaPro headphones. Logitech set a standard with the S220 system that has the bar raised at a height that will keep these speakers in demand for a long time.

However, the real reason I chose to write this review is to offer an add-on I did. I had a flash about adding a second pair of speakers, during which time the Logitech S120 was on special at an online store for $8.49 with free shipping. I ordered 2 pair(1 for backup). The S120's were placed behind the monitor(23" HD lcd), facing the wall, it is a corner setup, so I'm getting a reflected sound off 2 walls. Needless to say, the sound is very big and spacious and at the same time contained. Adding the S120's also keeps the sound of the bass on the "bottom" and allows the mid's and high's to "fan out" on top and I can really experience sound effects that are beyond just stereo separation. Streaming jazz on the internet has taken on a new dimension for my evening enjoyment.
