Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System with SubwooferCustomer Review: A 2.1 System that actually has good sound! Summary: 4 Stars
I bought these speakers as a cheap alternative to a 5.1 or 7.1 system, since I will be moving shortly, and do not want to risk damaging a nice expensive system. I didn't expect much, and for $20, wasn't really thinking about the quality--I just needed some audio feedback on my new rig.
However, I have to say, I am quite impressed. For a 2.1 system, the sound is very clear, with little static, even with the volume turned all the way up. The bass is a bit weak, and does start to rattle when the volume is maxxed. However, what can you expect from an inexpensive 2.1 system. Honestly, I've had two other 2.1 systems (Gateway and some other no-name brand) and this one outdoes them both in sound quality.
My only other complaints are that the way-too-short power cord plugs directly into the bass, and the feed lines to the tweeters do also. You can plug the speakers right into the soundcard, but the sound for some reason does not come across as well. However, in order to have the bass anywhere near your computer, you need to have the computer right next to the wall socket. The six-to-eight inch long cord doesn't really even have enough length to allow you to put it on top of a full sized tower with it sitting next to the power outlet.
It's also got a nifty mic/headphone dongle. On the top-side of the dongle, there's a spinner that allows you to control volume. Then the two jacks sit underneath. It's nice, but again, since it's directly jacked into the bass with a shorter cord, you really can't place it that far away from your computer unless you don't care to physically adjust the volume from the dongle.
If you're short on cash, or you only want a 2.1 system, then I definitely recommend this product.
Customer Review: Worst PC speakers I've ever bought. Summary: 1 Stars
These speakers only manage a one star rating from me since I cannot rate them any lower. I'm usually astounded by the sound quality of Logitech's PC speaker line. Having owned the X-220 and X-530, I never have been disappointed. That is, until I purchased these for a friend's Christmas present. The speakers emanate a low hum when powered on/plugged in, and the cheap volume knob could short out sound to the left or right speakers whenever you adjusted the volume...right out of the box! I tested these speakers on my laptop to ensure that there was no ground loop noise attributable to my friend's PC. I found it definitely was the speakers at fault. Within two weeks, the right speaker is permanently shorted out. I am angered and ashamed of what I got.
I know that everything is made in China, and it's been this way for quite some time. But over the past two years or so, I've noticed that you really have to be careful with what you buy. You can no longer trust long-honored brands. Spend a little more and get something quality, spend at least $50 or more on anything from Logitech, you will be happy. But this product's build quality and performance is becoming of something that should be free after mail-in-rebate. As for all these user reviews: I'd like to know if these cheap speakers are probably the first ones they ever bought for their PC's...that would explain alot.
Since this was a gift, which I am honestly embarasssed to ever have given, the packaging and materials were thrown away. I have no way to return the item to Amazon, so I am left with contacting the manufacturer. These will likely go in the trash by the end of the month, as I'm sure the shipping costs associated with returning the item will be prohibitive.
Customer Review: Subwoofer? This dog whimpers, it doesn't bark... Summary: 2 Stars
Prior to getting the Logitech S220 I had a similarly-priced setup in the Cyber Acoustics CA-3001RB. After almost 5 years of solid use the CA speakers started breaking down and it was time to replace them. I don't know why I didn't just get the same thing. Foolish me.
From the extremely positive reviews it seemed like the Logitech S220 speakers would be an upgrade. Well, just to give you an idea of what I think, I began using these new speakers about 10 minutes ago and already I'm banging out this review. These speakers are SEVERAL STEPS DOWN from the CA. The subwoofer is so weak and negligible that it might as well not have been included. Even with the bass control turned all the way up, there's virtually no bass. I tried compensating for that with the equaliser in iTunes but the satellite speakers start distorting right away. So what I'm left with is hollow, lacklustre sound and no room for improvement. Yuck.
I've never had any complaints with Logitech products but the S220 is a real disappointment. I know that it's an inexpensive setup but, honestly, this is pathetic. After the comparative fullness of sound produced by the CA this is a definite letdown. It's funny to read complaints by some of the people who bought the CA-3001RB. They need to check out the S220 and realise how much worse it could have been.
I'm puzzled by the positive reviews here and absolutely baffled by the raves. What were those customers listening to before? Seriously, I want to know.
You know what? After making me waste my time on my hands and knees under a desk, I think the least Logitech could do is bring me out for a nice dinner at some classy joint!
Customer Review: Very nice sound, for the price. Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased these speakers for my 22" flat screen HDTV set in my bed room. The one thing I had difficulty doing after I took them out of the packaging to prepare for set up, is finding out how to connect these speakers (seemingly designed specifically for a PC) to my television set. i knew it was possible because I read one of the reviews here on AMAZON where someone else had connected the speakers to their 19" tv set. After finding it, I was impressed- not nearly as impressed with these speakers as with my LOGITECH speakers connected to my PC (I purchased my PC speakers & subwoofer for alot more $$$$ of course), but I was impressed nonetheless. Compared to what my HDTV sounded like before these speakers were connected---believe me it is a DRASTIC difference. For 20 bucks, why complain. If you want a BIGGER SOUND consider a speaker set similar to this one, with a larger "subwoofer" (like I did. This subwoofer is flater & smaller than my LOGITECH PC speaker subwoofer---the sound isn't as DEEP as a result of the smaller size). People complain about the subwoofer being awkward at times and being in the way, but at the same time the subwoofer plays a big part in how DEEP the sound is coming from the 2 small speakers. It has always amazed me how such small speakers can have such a NICE DEEP sound coming from them thank to a subwoofer. The 2 speakers are place at the front of my TV while the subwoofer is placed behind the tv set---totally out of view. I LOVE it. I have grown to trust the LOGITECH BRAND NAME, I have a cordless computer mouse as well as the 2 speaker systems by LOGITECH.
Customer Review: These Speakers are Proof that you Don't Have to Spend a Bundle for Good Speakers Summary: 5 Stars
Pros: Sound Quality, Price, Sleek Design, Headphone Jack which is really nice since the one on my computer is almost impossible to reach. I've accidentally dropped and knocked the speakers over as well as banged one into the wall a few times and none of that affected their performance or the way they look.
Cons: The built in Volume Control wheel works great Except when you plug-in headphones, then you have to adjust the volume through your computer directly. Extra features = extra cords to get in the way.
Other Information: I bought this speaker system on July 18, 2009. I would recommend them to others and would buy them again in the future if I damaged them through my clumsiness.
After I was thoroughly tired of the horrible buzzing/static like noise the speakers my husband had hooked up to the computer for Forever; I started looking for speakers. Had I known I could find such good quality speakers for such a great price I would have started looking sooner. I thought I would have to pay at least $100 for decent computer speakers, so imagine my surprise when I found this well reviewed speaker system on Amazon for less then $30.
These aren't going to give you the same sound quality as more sophisticated (and generally more expensive) speaker systems, but they are More then sufficient for watching music videos, TV shows, and listening to music with good sound quality on my computer. When I want Great sound quality for my music then I listen to it on my home stereo system, but my stereo doesn't play YouTube videos. ^_^
