The Logitech S150 USB Speakers were a cheap bet that I lost. I had these speakers connected to a USB 2 hub on a Win 7 laptop. They sounded OK after I applied tape to the buttons as suggested herein. But, almost every time I left my desk and returned after even a moment the speakers crashed. The audio ceased and the indicator on the right speaker went out. Unplugging the hub and plugging it back in reactivated the speakers -- annoying to say the least. When the speakers crashed all other devices on the hub continued to operate properly. Was the cause static discharge, or improper response to a user activity event? It remains a mystery.
Nonetheless, there is a silver lining. My objective with these speakers was to move ALL my peripherals to a USB 2 hub so that at the office I could easily dock my Dell Studio 1555 laptop, which doesn't have a docking station option. So I bet again on a set of Logitech Z323 PC speakers and a Syba SD-CM-UAUD USB Stereo Audio Adapter, which enables plugging the speakers into the USB hub. This setup sounds fabulous and works great -- I can plug in three connectors (power, HDMI external video, and one USB cable) to dock everthing. I also run my network through a TRENDnet USB to 10/100Mbps Adapter. I have never had any performance problems. It's simple, and I won't buy a docking station again.
