Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech S120 2.0 Multimedia SpeakersCustomer Review: If you plan to spend this much... Summary: 2 Stars
...you might as well spend a little more and get something that actually sounds good. Perhaps buy an inexpensive set by Altec Lansing for some loose change more--which is what I should have done! I bought these to use in my office, where my computer is a laptop. The laptop's built-in speakers sound better. One would imagine that with inexpensive speakers of this size, the sound would come out sounding tinny and weak. Unfortunately, this is not the case; I would be HAPPY with tinny-sounding speakers, because then I would hear treble! There is nothing above the mid-frequency range to be heard from this set. The sound they emit falls short of my (low) expectations.
The design of this set is actually not bad; they look nice sitting on a desk, and they feel solid enough. Where they fail miserably is in the speakers within the cabinets. Not only is the sound very flat, but the speakers vibrate within the cabinets when playing audio on my PC above half volume (with both the speakers and the computer's volume controls set at halfway.)
I was looking for something cheap and ACCEPTABLE for the office, so I didn't need 2.1, 5.1, or 7.1 channel sound, but this set doesn't even clear the "decent" bar. Avoid these unless you have water permanently in your ears, because that's what these sound like!
Customer Review: Good little guys for the price! Summary: 4 Stars
I picked up these speakers at Walmart today as some cheap alternatives to a couple GE 98910 UltraSonix 2.0 Speakers. They are an improvement in every aspect of course; but that should be obvious to just about every person on this earth without saying. These have good reviews and just about everybody says they're great. I think so too (for the price range that is). They have high highs, a little too high for me. The mid-range in some songs is good, others, it's too high. They is very little bass, but let's not forget the drivers are no bigger than two inches! The overall sounds is tiny to me. After all this harsh critiquing, you may wonder why I still gave them 4 stars on the sound quality portion of the review. That is because these speakers produce very good sound quality for the price. As for the build quality and appearance: excellent! Very high quality of construction. They're nice and heavy for their size: it feels like you're holding a brick when you lift one of them-- probably because the power brick is located in the left speaker (which I think is a great design). They look a lot cooler than in the pictures. I like the style of them. Overall, I like them. A good deal. Although, I would suggest looking into the 2.1 version of this system (with the subwoofer). I think a sub would round the sound out nicely.
Customer Review: Inexpensive and effective Summary: 3 Stars
No frills here, but they work. As expected though, there's a bit of feedback (?) or just noise if you have them turned up too high without also having your sound source turned up enough. I use these as external speakers for my laptop -- and they work great, especially given the low price. But if I have the volume on the laptop turned really low and then crank up the speakers, you get a lot of that fuzzy background noise. It's distracting and a little annoying but easy to fix. Just keep an eye on both volumes and you should be fine.
They're very small (convenient) but I find the cord connecting them together to be too long (inconvenient). If these were more powerful and of a higher quality it would be worth it to position them a few feet apart to try and attempt some sort of surround sound but as it is, they don't really cut it. I most often sit them right beside my laptop so theoretically I only need about a 2-ft-long cord (max) connecting them. I'm also not sure why they require an external power source. I've used other computer speakers that just plug right into the computer's headphone jack without a dedicated on/off switch. Either they're in-use or they're not. The fewer cords the better, but it's not that big of a deal. And you can't beat the price.
Customer Review: Meh... pretty good for only $12 Summary: 4 Stars
I bought these because my computer's internal speaker is very quiet, but was of pretty good quality nonetheless.
Basically, the sound quality on these speakers is pretty good for the value. The bass is actually pretty strong for the speakers' size, but the port for what I think is bass reflex wasn't properly designed I guess because the whole point of an bass reflex enclosure is to make a small speaker system have decent bass... which this doesn't. The speakers also make some random ticking sounds that sound A LOT like morse code lol, which might be caused by poor magnetic shielding and the fact that I have a wireless card on my computer... I'm not really sure.
Also, these do sound pretty tinny and as some one mentioned earlier, sort of muffled like the old dolby noise reduction tape decks though not quite as bad. Oddly enough only 1 speaker worked on my computer when on youtube or windows media player, quicktime, etc. but when I did the sound test on my computer the other speaker worked for some reason. This is probably an issue with my computer because the speakers worked fine on my bro's computer.
Basically I gave this 4 stars because I think it's not air to expect any better quality than this for only $12 or so.
Customer Review: Great choice for basic speakers Summary: 5 Stars
These speakers are a handy little pair -- they put out decent quality of sound for their size and price, and the volume capacity is excellent for a one bedroom apartment. (You probably couldn't DJ any sweet rave parties with them, but I've yet to need to crank them up all the way, even for a few of my weirdly quiet DVDs, so I'd say they're plenty loud. They definitely beat out my in-laptop speakers, several times over.)
The bass isn't the most clearly articulated sound in the world; I haven't had any problems with fuzziness or crackling, or really anything that would distract from tv/video/movie viewing, but there's definitely a certain level of crispness that they don't achieve. If you're a really picky audiophile, though, you're probably not going to be buying $15 speakers, and for your basic "I want to be able to listen to things with a decent sound quality at a reasonably high volume" needs, they're great.
Also: if you knock them off of a table two days after you get them and they hit a wood floor and the front metal grill pops off, you can just snap the grill back in place, and they still work perfectly well. At least, in my experience.
