Customer Review: mobility Issues - READ BEFORE BUYING!
Summary: 2 Stars

These speakers sound fine, given their low price. But there are several issues you should be aware of:
1) The internal transformer started buzzing after a few months, even when turned off. Not loud, but noticeable if you listen. This prompted me check the power draw. These speakers use the same amount of power when they're off as when they're on (about 5 watts, IIRC). This is typical of products that use a "wall wart" transformer, but these have an internal transformer, so there's no excuse for not putting the power switch on the line voltage side of the transformer, rather than the low-voltage side. Perhaps Logitech saved 5 cents on the power switch?
2) If you move them around a lot (I use with my laptop in several different locations), the small audio cable that connects the two speakers will eventually develop an open circuit at the connection point, rendering one speaker useless. The case is glued together rather than screwed, so there's no way to repair and reinforce the connection.
3) The power cable is oversized and rather stiff, making it a bit difficult to keep the speakers pointed correctly (this is only an issue if you set up in different locations). A lighter power cable would have been nice. This would not have been an issue if Logitech had used a wall-wart transformer.
4) The grills pop off easily if a speaker falls over

If you set these up in one location and leave them alone, they're probably a good bargain.

Customer Review: Amazing value. Get it today!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for some computer speakers for my mac mini. These speakers are an excellent value! Great sound and very convenient.

Why I bought it:
- plug into the wall w/o a power adapter / "brick"
- has headset plug next to volume control -- super convenient if I ever need to switch to a headset, (no need to fumble in back of my computer)
- great sound for use in my room
- amazing price -- $12! insane

What this isnt:
This isn't a home theatre / wall-shaking bass sound system. I don't know why people complain of "not enough bass" from these $12 speakers. Simple solution: get a different set of speakers, these little guys are not to make your room vibrate. I personally don't like computer speakers w/ separate subwoofers. If I really need good sound (with truly deep bass) I'll just plug my computer in to my home theatre system and $1000 speakers, not into computer speakers. So, do yourself a favor and ignore people's reviews on how the bass is bad on these speakers. Classical music sounds excellent, electronic/dance sounds pretty good, rap/hip-hop sounds ok. (probably has to do w/ how the richness of the sound varies between these genres).

Bottom line: this is a no-brainer decision: get the speakers if you envision using them for normal use... if you plan to throw a house party, face it, $12 speakers aren't going to get you there.

Customer Review: Mediocre speakers
Summary: 3 Stars

Pros:
cheap
headphone port
volume adjustment

Cons:
mediocre sound quality (what do you expect out of the price?)
practically no bass (what do you expect out of the price?)
requires external power source
the power on switch could have been made a little easier to activate (I'm just nit-picking)

just an fyi:
power cord is 4 ft 9 inches (145 cm)
audio cable is 4 ft 6 inches (137 cm)
cord from one speaker to another is 4 ft 1 inch (124 cm)

I don't care about bass, so that wasn't a problem for me. You will notice a downgrade of sound quality in these speakers if you have been listening to better quality speakers before. I could play my ps3 fine with these speakers. Just keep in mind these are not fancy speakers. These speakers are worse than my old Compaq OEM (no external power source required) speakers. If you don't care much about volume adjustment (i.e. you change the volume from the audio source), consider buying higher quality non-externally-powered speakers or headphones. You should test these speakers somewhere to see if you really like them. These speakers are definitely not for any avid music listeners. These speakers probably suit someone who has high volume needs but less sound quality needs. The headphone port also delivers sound quality just as bad as the speakers. Buy these only if you like the sound quality!

Customer Review: Great desk speakers at a great price.
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased these for my girlfriend's desktop computer after her old speakers quit working. For the price (I paid eight bucks plus a few more for shipping), these simply cannot be beat.

Setup is easy, even for those that can't operate computers. Two plugs - one in the power strip, one into the tower. The volume knob is simple and easy to use, and there's a headphone jack. (I know I'm describing some really basic stuff, but you'd be surprised how some lower-end speakers lack these features.)

The sound clarity is great up to about 70% volume, which is typical of speakers in this price range. I'm listening to some light acoustic music on them at the moment around 40% volume, which I would consider normal usage - and I have no complaints at all.

Just for kicks, I played some heavier dubstep/electronic through them at a higher volume, and the response was still pretty decent. At half-volume, I can hear them clearly, 20 feet away in the kitchen while I'm making dinner.

If you're in the market for some basic computer speakers, these will do the job perfectly.

As a side note, they'll work when plugged into a headphone jack - so since they're somewhat small, you could almost travel with them if your laptop has bad speakers (most do) and you like to listen to music in your hotel room.

I'd definitely buy this product again.

Customer Review: Don't fool yourself: these are garbage
Summary: 1 Stars

I've had a pair of Harman Kardon cheapo speakers for ... god only knows; at least a decade. My HK speakers were old and sleasey and vile; covered with stains and dirt and filth and slease. They sounded great: the most perfect computer speakers ever created. They made about as much noise as a small room can take without damaging the hearing, and they had a pleasant sound. Sure, it didn't have super deep bass, but it did have a separate bass and treble speaker, and, well, they sounded good, and cost next to nothing. Eventually the power supply broke on 'em, so they did nothing but make 60hz loud buzzing sounds, and I had to buy something new.

These speakers, by contrast, also cost next to nothing, and they sound like someone is humming the tune from inside a metallic paper towel tube. They only have a treble speaker, are shoddily made and sound horrible. I'm no audiophool, and don't need much audio quality to be happy, but these things are worthless. I'll eventually feed them to the wood chipper, just as soon as I can find some kind of improvement. In all seriousness, the built in speakers on my imac are actually just as loud, and sound better. These are worthless junk. No point in shelling out for them: someone must make speakers like my old HK's. And, what the heck is the difference between "multimedia speakers" and single media speakers? What a dumb name.
