Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech S120 2.0 Multimedia Speakers

Customer Review: Great Bargain For the Average Joe
Summary: 5 Stars

I want to begin this review by stating that I am not a techno-geek. I enjoy the comforts of technology as much as most people, but I don't have to have the newest gadget when it debuts. I also don't have to have the BEST (which is usually the most expensive) equipment; I just want something that is inexpensive, durable, and dependable.

About a year ago the speakers I had for my desktop computer went dead. I liked those speakers. They were these huge Compaq speakers given to me by a cousin and were about twenty years old, but they worked and worked well for me for nearly ten years. I don't have very much extra cash, but still wanted something that worked. I ended up buying these S-120 multimedia speakers from Logitech. I've had them for almost a year now and haven't had any problems with them. They are much smaller than my old computer speakers, which has given me more space at my computer desk. They are easy to install and the volume can be adjusted by turning a small knob on one of the speakers. In regards to sound quality, you aren't going to get a surround-sound-HD type of sound, but you shouldn't expect that. It's just a basic sound quality that is well balanced between both speakers. I've read a couple reviews commenting that the speakers emit a random buzzing sound, but I've never heard that.

Overall, I really like these speakers and they have been a great bargain. Most people will probably be satisfied by these speakers, except for those technophiles and serious audiophiles.

Customer Review: You were expecting maybe 7.2 channel surround sound?
Summary: 3 Stars

I like this product and I would buy it again. So why only three stars? In my book, four stars is a truly exceptional product and five stars is an extraordinary product. This is a three-star product in my book. They're GOOD. The sound is GOOD, especially for the price. For me GOOD is three stars. So sue me.

I was surprised by how small the speakers are. They're small enough to pack in to your laptop bag if it's got a reasonable amount of room. I got them because I wanted to watch TV and movies without having to wear earbuds or headphones. They beat the heck out of the walkie-talkie quality of my Asus N61J's "SRS Premium Sound" what ever the heck that's supposed to be.

The instructions were wrong. They said to plug the wire with the pink tip into the mic output! Well there was no such wire nor should there have been. Since when do speakers need a mic output? It cost me about 20 seconds to confirm I wasn't hallucinating or had slipped into a parallel universe.

Look, for the money you can't go wrong. I can understand all of the four or star reviews but I'm just a tougher reviewer than most. We live in a grade-inflated age. I grew up when most kids got Cs and Bs on their report cards and As were rare. Sometimes I get the feeling that a lot kids who get Bs and As these days would have been on the short bus when I went to school. But I digress.

Don't let some cranky old guy prevent you from buying these speakers. They're good value for the money and I think you'll enjoy them.

Customer Review: underpowered . . .
Summary: 3 Stars

I got these speakers after reading the reviews here that said they were pretty powerful and loud. Of course the source of the sound, be it an audio CD, an MP3, a live feed on the web, a DVD, a video game or whatever, will make a difference in the type of the sound being amplified, which makes a difference in what you hear. Overall, the performance of these speakers is decent, and generally not loud enough. For different types of sound sources, there is rarely distortion at maximum volume, which is good, but generally the reason for this is because the sound level isn't that high. I have a set of USB powered speakers that can produce about the same level of output. The two single speakers seem to produce mostly midrange tones, favoring more on the higher side than the low end. The tonal quality is pretty sweet, good for most general listening. It would have been nice if the system had a little more kick and tonal range on the low end, as the AC power could provide more than enough push, but I guess the speakers are just too small.

Since the base is small, the speakers are pretty easy to tip over when you touch them or turn the power on. This is not a good design. Placing the speaker on its side, I can position them in front of my monitor without blocking the screen. If these were USB powered, the output level would not be an issue, but for an AC powered system, I expected more. The relatively low cost is a plus, but overall these speakers are just average.

Customer Review: Great little computer speakers
Summary: 5 Stars

Hi folks,
I know there are already alot of reviews on these speakers but, I am forced to comment on them myself.
These are really very good speakers. They were shipped by Amazon securely and very fast.
I removed these from the packaging and the very first thing I noticed was the weight, they are rather heavy for their size and it is this 'weight' that I grew up with as a prime indicator of the quality of speakers.
Next, they were ridiciously easy to hook up--plugged into the wall socket, plugged into computer headphones jack, turned on with volumne 'centered', called up iTunes and wal-la Shinedown is playing very well, very loud (for this non-shredhead).
These are, without argument, the finest computer speaker I have ever owned to date. Please remember that these are not boom-box, house designed surround-sound, $1000 speakers. For $11 what do you expect, unless they arrived non-functional (this will happen occasionally with electrical and mechanical devices) there is not any reason whatsoever to complain about these speakers. If you want louder, recording-studio sounding speakers then go spend the money for them. (besides, if you are listening louder than I do then you are going to go deaf soon)
I guess that the main reason I am writing this is to let the people who are looking for some good, quality desktop computer speakers, you can quit looking. Buy these and, under reasonable expectations, you will not be disappointed. Good luck folks.

Customer Review: Some of the best speakers I ever bought!
Summary: 5 Stars

These speakers from Logitech are some of the finest I have ever had
and the sound quality ranges from good to great. I highly recommend
them for anybody who needs simple 2 piece speakers for their pc and
anybody who uses the internet, watches youtube videos and dvd's on their pc, listens to music and mp3's, and plays games, etc. These speakers are cheap
and deliver awesome sound quality for the price. Mine have fallen off my desk
a few times including one I have placed higher then the other and both including
the one that fell a few times are still working like new.

The sound is of course not the best sound bet still pretty awesome
and ranges from good to great or from 3 to 5 stars out of five as
I stated above.

The design is pretty good and saves space but my only complaint
is that the features are lacking as the speakers only have a power
button, volume button that you turn clockwise and counter clockwise
to turn the volume up and down and an input for headphone jacks.

Their are only a few cords that come with the speakers; one that
connects the right speaker to the left and one that connects one
speaker to the pc (actually for both speakers) and a power adaptor.

The cords are long about 2 feet at least mnaybe 3 at the most and
do not tangle or bunch up easily which is good.

Otherwise I give them 5 out of 5 stars.
